"Dylan? Y/N?" Zoe exclaimed. "What are you doing?"
"Zoe," you said softly. "Let me explain."
Of course you shouldn't have got to the accident and emergency department where your fiancé worked if you didn't want her to find out, but you needed a doctor you could trust to quickly see, and the only ones you knew worked with her. It wasn't overly important as to go to A&E, but it was playing on your mind enough that you needed to see someone there and then to stop yourself worrying too much about it. You would just end up stressing yourself out too much if you weren't given a definite response.
Dylan wasn't your first choice for a doctor, but he was the only one whom was free. At least he agreed to help you and not tell Zoe, but she must have heard of you being there and found you in your cubicle.
"I'll leave you to it," Dylan stated, slipping out of the curtain before either of you could say anything more to him.
"Are you okay?" She asked. "Why didn't call for me when you got here? what's going on?"
"Zoe calm down," you stated. "I didn't want to worry you, and you're proving that what I did was correct. I couldn't get in with the GP, so I came in to get a test done and I didn't want you to worry until I got the response as there wasn't any point in upsetting you if there was no reason."
She cocked an eyebrow at you, having no idea what you were talking about.
"I came in because I took two pregnancy tests and they were positive. I just wanted to get a confirmation, Dylan confirmed it," you grinned.

You had gone through three rounds of IVF, but they had all been unsuccessful until now. It had been a hard decision for you and Zoe to decide to try for a baby as she worked long hours but it was something that you both wanted but fate just didn't seem to want to work out for the two of you.
"You're pregnant," she said, no express on her face.
Zoe paused for a moment before a smile curled onto her lips. "You're pregnant."
You nodded your head. "It's early days but we're going to be mums."
Neither of you could help but smile as she moved to wrap her arms around you, glad for your little family to grow.

Law of Shadows
Mercs are causing trouble in my city. They are hunting someone, whatever the cost. It’s not like I care that some lowly humans died, but if I don’t act now it would set a bad example. So what would the hero do? Probably he would save the victims and protect them while the enemies keep coming…Yeah, as if I would ever do something so troublesome! They aren’t calling me the demon lord for no reason. I suppose I’ll just shoot the victim and be done with it.

Jack and Ann have taken me on a great adventure full of mystery and incredible technology, I hope you'll join us. Three chapters will post each week in December 2021 and January 2022. The journey will come to a close on January 31. I know you have a lot of reading choices, but if you have space left in your literary adventure cup, please join Jack and Ann as 2021 turns into 2022, happy reading! The demon whispers inside Jack’s mind. “They are not worthy, they are cattle, these new humans you covet. The so-called creator has betrayed you, replaced you with these organic imitations. Slaughter them all.” It’s funny, not in a ha-ha funny way, but a sad, my madness doesn’t make sense type of way, Jack thinks, because wasn’t he human? Worse still, the voice comes with impulses that are hard to resist. Violence usually ensues. That’s why he joined the military. A way to channel his urges into mind-numbing physical effort and war. It works for a time. But alcohol and fighting can only carry on for so long. Finally, he realizes, his only way out is suicide. But when he opens his eyes, he’s in the In-Between. The creator has other plans for him, and she won’t take no for an answer. Apparently, this isn’t his first life and if he doesn’t free her from her prison, it won’t be his last. His curse is to be reborn without end, without rest, without memory. Only madness. Now Jack is on the run from forces he doesn’t understand. It’s a new world. The mundane replaced by ethereal artificial intelligence, spontaneous virtual realities, and homicidal bible salesmen. But the creator promises the demon’s voice will disappear as soon as he finds the right girl, the right bond. After that, they just have to escape the clutches of those who hunt them, find the Isle of Song, and free the creator from her prison. Or maybe this time, in this life, Jack will figure out what true freedom is. Come along on this action-packed thriller as Jack fights to remember who he is, tries to end an eternal war, and atone for sins he doesn’t remember…yet.

I don't personally gain weight on purpose, though recently I've been having second thoughts about losing it...
