《The Assassin's Mate》Chapter 20

I was in the kitchen making breakfast when I saw Raiden coming down the stairs already dressed up.
"Where are you going to?" I asked him.
"Oh so you care now." He smirked and I glared at him.
"Never mind. Don't tell me." I rolled my eyes at him.
"Don't be like that princess. I'm just going to the office to do some work." He said to me.
"Can I come? To see what you do and stuff." I said while looking away.
"Of course! Come on let's go." I didn't miss the excitement in his voice.
"Okay just hold on, let me change." I said as I went upstairs to my room to wear my regular outfit. I went back downstairs and saw Raiden eating the breakfast I was preparing. I glared at him and he saw me.
"What? I was hungry." He said with a mouthful. I grabbed an apple and followed him to his office. We entered his office and I took a seat.
"You know, as a future Luna of this pack, you have to go through some stuffs with me." Raiden said with a smirk.
"I'm not the future Luna of this pack." I said coldly. His face turned into a sad expression and I kind of regretted what I said. The mate bond is getting stronger and I hated it. The door opened and we turned to see who it was. Brian bitch.
"Why is she here?" He said the 'she' venomously. I rolled my eyes at him.
"She is here because she is my mate." Raiden said as he glared at him.
"But her presence is so irritating." Brian said with utter disgust. My blood was boiling for this guy. I could kill him now with the silver knife I have in my holster.
"Watch your mouth Brian!" Raiden scolded. It's fun to see that Raiden had my back.
"Send her out and I'll keep my mouth shut." He said nonchalantly.
"Are you talking to your Alpha like that?" I feigned a surprise look then turned to Raiden "Are you going to let him disrespect you like that? Back in Derek's pack, no one dared call him by his name. It was Alpha Damon to them." I said to Raiden in a deadly convincing voice. Derek told me about the power of a mate especially an alpha's mate and that's what I'm doing right now.
"Can you see what this little witch is trying to do? She is trying to turn you against me." He said is disbelief.
"I'm just trying to get respect for my mate." I said to him as I glared at him.

"Oh now he is your mate." Brian shot back at me.
"Shut your mouth before I shut it for you." I snarled at him.
"Come at me boo." Brian said and I was about to leap on him but was stopped by Raiden's loud voice.
"STOP IT YOU TWO!" Raiden yelled and we instantly shut up but still glared at each other.
"Princess is right." Raiden said and I turned my head to look at him.
"What?" Brian said with widened eyes.
"The fact that we have been best friends since we were born doesn't give you the right to disrespect me. I am your Alpha. Never forget that." Raiden said with so much authority in his voice. It sounded sexy on him. I didn't know they were long time best friends.
"Yes alpha."Brian said and they began their discussion. It was so boring and I was losing my mind because of the boring talk.
"I'm bored." I groaned.
"Oh I have an idea on what you should do. Go to a cliff and jump off it. That would be so much fun." Brian said in a high-pitched voice. I glared at him and gave him the middle finger. I heard Raiden sigh.
"So what do you want to do then?" Raiden asked. It's been long since I've trained though.
"I want to train." I said and he was silent for a minute before speaking up.
"Okay but you will train with me." Raiden said with a smile.
"Unbelievable! So you are just gonna leave your work and train with her because she said so." Brian said in utter disbelief.
"Just go to your mate." Raiden said.
"Woah! Who is the unfortunate girl that ended up being your mate." I said in a mocking tone. He growled at me.
"Shut your mouth before I shut it for you." Brian growled louder at me as he said that.
"Come at me boo." I said the same thing he said and his growl got louder.
"Unbelievable." Raiden mutters as he dragged me out of his office. I didn't miss the sparks that travelled up my arm.
"So where are we training today?"I asked him as we went back to his house to change into a more appropriate training gear.
"Pack training grounds." He said then looked at me "it's empty, don't worry." He said because he saw my facial expression. I changed into my training gear and headed back downstairs to meet Raiden. His eyes darkened immediately as he looked me up and down.
"What?" I asked in a teasing manner. I was wearing a long sleeve fitted top that hugged my skin and put my boobs on display with sports shorts and my Nike running shoes. This was my regular training gear.

"Nothing. Let's go." His green eyes were still dark a little. We got to the training grounds and it was huge enough to fit in three hundred people.
"How many people are in your pack." I asked as we stopped.
"Four hundred people and over at Derek's pack, they are a total of four hundred and ninety five people." My mouth opened in shock because I've never really asked Derek how many people were in his pack. That's quite too much.
"Wow." I breathed out. We started training and there were a lot of body contacts made. I felt so alive with all the tingles and sparks I was feeling at that moment. Raiden slammed me to the floor but it didn't hurt at all. He let me beat him a couple times.
I was having so much fun with him and it seemed so unreal. I was exhausted from all the training.
"I'm tired." I breathed out from exhaustion.
"Here." Raiden handed me a bottle of water. I looked at Raiden and he didn't even look tired at all while I was soaked in sweat because of the intense workouts. I took the bottle of water and downed it immediately.
"So what's next?" I asked him as I sat on a nearby rock.
"Do you want to go and see the pack house?" Raiden asked.
"Of course." I said and we stood up and headed to the pack house. I stood there in awe because the pack house was very very big. Like so huge!
"Everyone lives here?" I asked in awe.
"Mostly the teenagers. Most parents or people with their mates go live on their own." Raiden said and was smiling at me. He opened the front door of the pack house and people lowered their heads in respect. I saw a lot of curious looks. People were looking at me with confused faces. Raiden took me around the house and it was really nice. He showed me his main office in the pack house and told me the office in his house is just his temporary office. We were done with exploring and by now, people were everywhere. They were all looking at me and some were even whispering to each other.
"Who is that?"
"Is that alpha's mate"
"What the hell is she doing here"
"She is human"
"She is really pretty."
I really hated the attention they were all giving me. I couldn't take it anymore.
"Stop staring at me!" I yelled at them and they kept whispering. By now, they surrounded Raiden and I.
"You heard her! Stop staring at her!" Raiden yelled with so much authority and they cleared the way for us. Raiden took me back to his house and I left him and went back to my room to go to sleep.
I remembered everything that happened and screamed in my pillow and fell asleep.
-
I jolted up from sleep and was covered in sweat. I remembered the man telling me that my parents were dead. I cried and cried. I curled in a ball at the end of the cell. I heard the door open and I saw the same man that told me my parents had died. He came inside and squatted in front of the cell.
"Who are you?" My voice croaked.
"My name is Jack sweetie. You don't have to be scared of me. I will take care of you." Jack said. I cried harder because I missed my parents and the thought of knowing that I was never going to see my parents made me sadder.
"Don't cry sweetie." Jack said in a mocking voice. He slid a tray into my cell and I looked at it. It was some kind of disgusting porridge.
"I'm not eating that." I said to the man. He glared at me and opened my cell. I gasped and wondered why he opened my cell.
"Come out." He said calmly. I gave him a pointed look.
"Come on. I'm not going to hurt you." He said. I crawled out of my cell and Jack picked me up with my hair and I screamed in pain.
"You said you weren't gonna hurt me!" I screamed and cried. He picked me up easily because of my tiny body.
"You don't want to eat the food I prepared for you so I'm going to teach you a lesson." Jack said and I screamed and thrashed around. I kept screaming for him to put me down.
"Please! Please let me go!" I cried and thrashed around.
"Darshana!" Someone screamed my name and shook me.
"Princess!" The person kept shaking me.
"Wake up!!" The same voice said.
I jolted up from bed and was covered in sweat and tears. Someone hugged me and I panicked.
"Calm down princess. It was just a dream. Go back to sleep." Raiden said as he settled on my bed and held me close. He kissed the side of my head and I relaxed immediately and fell into a comfortable slumber.

The Loyal Ones [Dark Biopunk Fantasy]
TLDR; A slave monster survives horror, war and servitude, while trying to live with himself. Thralls are a race of monstrous slave soldiers, in a universe where biological magic takes the place of technology. Centuries ago, their ancestors were desperate humans, who volunteered to be transformed for the Poison War. Today their unfortunate descendants are still soldiers and laborers. In contract law they are 'corporate wards'; slaves owned largely by arms dealers. Dally Harper starts this story as a champion cage fighter. He is one of the 'lucky' ones. It's all downhill from there. Content Warning: Explicit violence and gore, slavery, implied sexual assault. None of these are framed as positive or glorified, however they do have a strong impact on the plot and main characters.
