《Stuck in Between (Reaper!Sans X Reader)》~Chapter 7~

It took hours upon hours to do all the puzzles, but the time was well spent. In the few memories that resurfaced, you could only recall seeing these puzzles after they'd been solved. Solving them with Frisk was fun. He never stopped, always pulling you on. Of course the two of you met a few encounters with monsters, but they were all solved peacefully and with minimal damage.
Hades stayed perched on your shoulder, hiding in your sweater as you continued. He cawed happily as you continued, talking with Frisk and laughing. Life was good here. It'll be tough to leave it behind.
Shaking your head, you left the thought behind. Now was no time for such thoughts. Now was time to enjoy what you could with the people you cared about. It's the best you could do. As you approached the last trap, you were faced by a large bridge. Your pace didn't falter as you walked across, Frisk as you side.
As you neared the other end, the image if Sans and Papyrus appeared. They were speaking about something you couldn't hear, but it didn't seem important. Shrugging, you continued walking. Frisk tugged on your sleeve and you faltered.
"What Frisk?"
Papyrus' eyes snapped upwards and a wide grin spread over his face. "Ah, Humans! You have arrived at last! I see you've made quick work of my other puzzles! As a fellow puzzle enthusiasts, I must applaud you. However, this puzzle will get you for sure!"
He pulled back a level and the bridge shook. You grabbed the rope and wrapped an arm around Frisk to steady him. As the shaking settled, you looked around, jaw dropping. All around you were methods of severe pain. Spikes. Blades. Animals. You honestly felt scared.
"Well Humans! This puzzle has a 99.99% chance of success to befuddle you! Behild, the Gauntlet of Death! Now to activate it!"
You flinched at the word 'Death' and looked at Frisk with wary eyes. "I thought you said we wouldn't get hurt?!" You whispered.
"Keep watching..." Frisk pushed.
You looked up at Papyrus to see him gazing at the activation switch with more intensity than 99% dark chocolate. His hand shook on the level. You raised a brow.
"Uh, bro? That doesn't look very activated." Sans said.
You sent him a glare as if to ask 'are you trying to kill up?!' He shrugged towards you and Papyrus roared.
"NYEH! I WILL I WILL! It's just... I no longer believe this is the best option to defeat the humans. It is... not challenging enough! We will skip this one!" Papyrus declared.
The breath you'd been holding all came out in one blow and you felt deflated. "Oh thank god..." You sighed.
Frisk snickered and led the rest of the way off the bridge. Sans met you at the other end and you greeted him with a punch. "Were you trying to get us killed?!" You hissed.

Wouldn't matter that much for you.
Shut up conscience!
Sans chuckled. "Sorry kid, just sticking to the script. We're the only ones with memories of the other timelines, other than that talking weed Flowey. We stick to the script so we don't mess up the timeline."
Too late...
Shut up me!
You smacked a hand against your forehead and smiled at Sans. "Okay! Makes sense."
He smiled. "Heh, I don't see you until after Paps and you two fight, but I'm curious as to what kept you so long this last reset. How about we go to Grillby's?"
"If you're talking food, then hell yeah!" You whooped.
Hades bobbed his head and you giggled. "Hades agrees."
Frisk and Sans laughed. Sans then grabbed both you and Sans and teleported. Upon the landing, you were dizzy and lost balance. It took both Sans' and Frisk's reaction to keep you outta the snow. Frisk giggled and you laughed. "Ha, guess I'm a little shaky on this whole teleportion thing."
The statement seemed to saddened Sans but his smile remained. "Before this last reset, you handled them better than anyone else." He mused.
You chuckled softly. "Yeah, let's go inside. I'll explain."
Together, the three of you walked into Grillby's and sat in a booth. Sans and Frisk sat on one side while you took the other. A flaming man approached the table and welcomed us.
"Hey Sans. Seems you've brought some new friends this time, huh?"
Sans laughed. "Yep. The little one is Frisk and the one sitting by herself is (Y/N)."
He turned to you and Frisk and offered a nod. We returned it with a grin. "Well, my name is Grillby. It's a pleasure to meet you two. May I get an order?"
You glanced at the menu. "I'll just have some fries and a water please."
He nodded and looked to Frisk. "Burg please! And hot chocolate."
Grillby wrote down the orders and left. You raised a brow and looked at Sans. "Are you not getting anything?" You asked.
He waved his hand. "I'm getting the usual."
You shrugged and folded your arms on the table. Hades hopped of your shoulder and sat on the table. Sans and Frisk stared at you and your face fell. "What?"
"You were going to explain, remember?"
You made an 'oh' face and laughed. "Sorry, I forgot. Where do you want me to start?"
"Start from after our fight." Sans instructed.
You nodded and took a breath, preparing for a very long story. "So this is how it works. After our fight, my soul glitched. I wasn't faced with the options to continue or reset. After I 'died' I was left in the cold. I was literally dead. It wasn't long for you Sans, but I spent days in the darkness. Instantly after I died, I lost my memories. Every single one. However, when in the dark, I found a hidden place. It was really weird. It was called 'The Garden of Life.'

I entered it and it was amazing. It was a place dedicated to the creation of life. Plants, animals, people, monsters... everything. When I arrived, I had no memory, so it was really trippy. So as I was inspecting this new place and I found someone. It was-"
Hades cawed loudly, interupting your words. "Hades be quiet!" You snapped.
Returning your attention to the story, you resumed. "Anyway, it was the go-"
Again Hades interupted you. You snapped at him, giving him a venomous look. "Will you stop?!"
Hades continued to caw, getting louder and more frequent. Growling, you grabbed his legs and pinched his beak shut with your thumb and pointer finger. "It was the Goddess of Life." You said quickly.
Hades flipped his beak free and nipped your skin, annoyed and hurt by your actions. "Sorry Hades, you're being rude!" You muttered. "If you need to cool off go take a lap or something."
The hurtful look he gave you hurt your heart but you didn't change your face. Hades' wings fluttered and he vanished to the rafters overhead. You rolled your eyes and turned back to Sans and Frisk. They looked at you wearily. "Are you sure Hades is okay?" Sans asked. "I don't think he likes you talking about this."
You shrugged. "Well he can stop being a little shit. I don't know what's gotten into him." You sighed. "As I was saying, the goddess of life. I didn't recognize her resemblance until later but we'll get to that. So for a week I stayed with her. She took care of me and we were happy. That is until one of her friends showed up. Sorta. They were like frienemies. So it was the one caring for me, and one who was actually hunting me, Death."
They both sat at attention when you dropped the D word. "You met Death?! You died for real?!" Sans blurted, hurt in his eyes.
You shook your head wildly. "Nonononono... I didn't die. What happened was my soul was lost. Death was supposed to collect my soul and bring it to Judgement. But when I defied him he showed me a memory of my past. But when he did that I pushed out of the memory and into the body that had 'died.' That's how I figured out who I was, what I needed to do, and why they looked familiar."
"Who looked familiar?" Frisk asked.
You looked at Sans. "Now, remember, I only met two people while there. But Life, or as I called her at the time, Mom, looked exactly like Toriel! It was like Toriel in a different dress. And Reaper... he looked exactly like you Sans. After seeing the memory and figuring out what happened back here, I ran.
Toriel and Reaper tried to stop me but I forced a reset and ended up falling with Frisk."
Sans was in shock. "The Grim Reaper looks exactly like me?"
You nodded.
"And that's why you didn't remember anything?" Frisk asked.
"Yep."
Frisk thought a moment, then spoke again. "But that doesn't explain why you're in such a rush to free the Underground this time. It's like your running on a schedule."
Grillby passed by and laid food in front of all of you, handing a bottle of ketchup to Sans. It caught you off guard when he chugged the condiment. You took a fry and crammed it in your mouth, contemplating whether or not to tell them the complete truth. Taking a deep breath, you spoke the truth.
"Honestly Frisk, I'm kinda in a little trouble because of this glitch. I forced a reset with magic I don't possess. So gradually, the magic that repaired my body releases meaning that at random points I may wake up with serious wounds."
"Your ribs..."
You nodded. "I want to free the monsters before I'm too damaged to." You chirped.
Frisk stared at his plate with sad eyes. Slowly, he looked at you and guilt laced your soul. "(Y/N)... are you gonna die... for real?" He asked.
The question caught you off guard. Laughing, you smiled at Frisk.
"Don't worry Frisk, I might reopen a few wounds but I ain't leaving ya for a long time. Don't worry." You knew it was a lie, and you knew Sans could tell as well, but Frisk didn't seem to notice it.
His face lifted in a smile. "Okay!"
You kept the smile as you looked up at your stubborn feathery friend. "Hey Hades, do you want any fries or are you not done pouting?"
He cawed and glided down on to the table. Stubbornly, he grabbed the biggest fry possible for him and shuffled away, eating with his back to you. You rolled your eyes. "Drama King."
As you turned back, you caught Sans' gaze. Mutually you agreed, you wouldn't tell Frisk. You both knew you'd be dead by the end of this.

8 357A Job for a Wendigo
Long ago Wendigos settled in the cold north away from most other Beings. Their almost secretive nature often gives Beings the impression of deep spirituality. And then there is Yrsa. Flighty at best she lives in her deceased grandparent's RV in the middle of the desert. Taking up the job of a mail carrier she earns enough money to keep her lights on and not much else. When a fairy on her route causes her to crash it triggers a chain reaction leading up to her finding a purpose.
8 200Yin-Yang
Mages in North America seem to have it all – typically from well-off families, and able to manipulate their environment in ways most of the world would never believe. They don’t even have to bother with the mundane details of life like housework, thanks to their sensitives, who also make a useful source for extra magical energy. After all, sensitives have no use for it themselves, and if mages weren’t meant to make use of it, then the sensitives would obviously have some way to prevent that. That a mage can transform a sensitive physically, with no restrictions beyond overall mass and basic biological viability, whereas magic tends not to work directly on any other living thing, is only further proof. And look at the way they live on their own, barely a step above animals. It’s better for them to belong to a mage. Sensitives in North America live on the edge of society and survival – typically so paranoid they avoid hospitals and anything else that could lead to being tracked, many of them with little or no education and no legal identity or existence. Mages exist, and mages want sensitives for some reason, but no one ever comes back to explain what that reason is. Waiting every day for the hunters to notice them doesn’t lead to much motivation or hope for the future. And once they’re captured, they’re the property of someone with a terrifying amount of power over them. Anything is better than capture. Mages are born to be the masters, and sensitives are born victims. Or are they? Jax’s life is turned upside-down when he’s caught by the hunters and sold to a mage. Andreas is still mourning for his previous sensitive, though, unconsciously creating a difficult standard for Jax to live up to, all the more so while still struggling to come to terms with this new reality as Andreas’ sensitive. A runaway sensitive isn’t what Van expects at the mental health centre. Is this a hunter trap, set for him and the rest of the Donovan family by the hunters? The hunters would, after all, love to see them cross the line openly and finally do something they can be charged with. Either way, Miranda’s genuinely in trouble, and he can’t just abandon her to it. Snatching a sensitive out from under the hunters and hiding her is odd behaviour for a mage – but then, Catherine is an odd mage, living in disgrace in the old servants’ quarters of her grandmother’s house, responsible for cooking and housework. Lila owes Catherine her freedom; is there a way to help Catherine achieve her own, and at what price? Tension is building between traditionally-minded mages and those advocating change, and something has to break. *** Yin-Yang includes a small amount of profanity and no graphic sex or on-screen physical violence. However, sex and gender roles and relationships within the mage/sensitive subculture are non-traditional in mainstream North American terms. The key criterion in a primary relationship is not relative sex or gender, but the pairing of mage and sensitive; given the transformation of sensitives by their mages, physical sex is non-absolute for a sensitive, and gender identity can vary as in anyone else. *** *** The way mages treat sensitives is extremely varied and, in some cases is outright abusive. The struggle against that is pretty much the point of the book. It is NOT grimdark or misery-porn! However, if you will be triggered by this, please, don't read Yin-Yang! *** Complete stand-alone novel, 153K words! Also available on Scribble Hub and as a free ebook.

8 116The Orb Weaver Chronicles
"The Orb Weaver Chronicles contains several major and unique events that may or may not unknowingly intertwines with one another. The author of these chronicles is unknown, although some have hinted at the symbolism behind its name..." - Year unknown, location unknown 9 February 2022 Update: Welcome to the companion short story compilation of my novel trilogy The Shadow Paradigm. This compilation features prequels, sidequels and sequels to the novel's major plotline, as well as featuring a wide range of characters, new and recurring. Prior knowledge of the novel is not necessary as the Orb Weaver Chronicles' short stories are standalone. Once called The Arkesyyan Chronicles, I've deleted quite a few of its old stories. Due to the new avenue and revision, oriented toward more mystery and film-noir ambience, that I took my stories into, I've removed all aliens and overly sci-fi aspects of the whole TSP lineup, so I've updated the Orb Weaver Chronicles accordingly. I hope you enjoy them, and in time, a revised version will also be updated.
