Luo wuxian was just talking with jiang cheng and nie huaisang when they heard soft voices coming somewhere near them
Luo wuxian looks at jiang cheng and nie huaisang "did you hear that ?" Luo wuxian asks. Jiang cheng nodded in reply , nie huaisang " why dont we go where the sound is?" He asks luo wuxian and jiang cheng and they both nodded
They went to the direction of where they heard the soft murmurs . They saw lan wangji and lan xichen talking.
Lan Xichen was the first one to notice all three of them , He smiled and asked, “You two are…?”
Jiang Cheng saluted him and replied, “Jiang Wanyin of Yunmeng.”
Luo Wuxian also saluted him. “Rouge cultivator Luo wuxian”
Lan Xichen returned their salute. Nie Huaisang’s voice was as quiet as a gnat. “Brother Xichen.”
Lan Xichen responded, “Huaisang, I came from Qinghe not long ago and your brother asked me about your studies. How are they? Will you be able to pass this year?”
Nie Huaisang said, “Generally speaking, I can…” He seemed to wilt like a frostbitten melon and looked to Luo Wuxian for help.
Luo Wuxian smiled happily. “Zewu-Jun, what are you all heading out for?”
Lan Xichen replied, “To eliminate water spirits. We were lacking manpower, and I came back to find Wangji.”
Luo wuxian asks “Right, Zewu-Jun, can we definitely help.”
“No need. The Gusu Lan Sect is also…”
Before Lan Wangji could finish speaking, Lan Xichen smiled and said, “Good, then. Many thanks. Prepare for a bit, and then we will set off together. Does Huaisang want to come with?”
Although Nie Huaisang wanted to go with them to join in on the action, he thought of his own brother when he met Lan Xichen, and feeling nervous, he didn’t dare to have fun recklessly. He replied, “I won’t go. I’ll go back to review…” By putting on this attitude, he anxiously hoped that Lan Xichen would say a few kind words in front of his brother. Luo Wuxian and Jiang Cheng returned to their rooms to prepare.
Lan wangji and lan xichen waited for Luo wuxian and Jiang cheng
Luo Wuxian and Jiang Cheng arrived quick and had already come over, carrying their swords. Everyone mounted their swords and set off.
The place the water spirits haunted was called Caiyi Town, which was more than twenty li
away from the Cloud Recesses.
Caiyi Town was connected through waterways, and it was unknown if a network of rivers densely covered the small town or if the houses were closely nestled on both sides of the web-like waterways. There were white walls and grey roofs, and the river channels were jam-packed with boats of baskets and people. Along the river, there were businesses for flowers and plants, vegetables and fruits, bamboo carvings, pastries, beans, tea, and silk floss.

Gusu was located in Jiangnan, and the voices that entered the ear were soft and mild-mannered. Two boats collided head-on, spilling a few jars of rice wine, and even when the two boatmen argued, it sounded like the crisp and sweet birdsong of an oriole. Yunmeng had many lakes, but it was rare for there to be small towns of this sort with waterways. Luo Wuxian found it peculiar. He fished money out of his pocket to buy two jars of rice wine, and handed one jar over to Jiang Cheng, saying, “The Gusu people speak so sweetly. How is this arguing? If they see how people of Yunmeng argue, they might be scared to death."
Not staying for long, they boarded ten or so narrow boats and rowed towards where the water spirits gathered. Gradually, the houses on both banks became fewer in number, and the river channel also became quiet. Luo Wuxian and Jiang Cheng each occupied a boat, competing to see who could row faster while listening to matters related to the water spirits at this place.
This river channel led to a large lake up ahead called Biling Lake. In the past decades, Caiyi Town had never been haunted by water spirits, but in recent months, people had repeatedly fallen into this water channel and Biling Lake. Cargo ships also sunk without an explanation. A few days ago, Lan Xichen had casted an array of nets in this area, originally thinking that he could catch one or two of them. Who would have expected that he would capture a dozen or more water spirits in a row. He had cleaned the corpses and brought them to the nearby town to inquire about them, but there had actually been quite a lot of corpses that had gone unclaimed, not recognized by the local people. Yesterday, he had cast the array of nets once more and had caught quite a few again.
Luo Wuxian said, “It doesn’t look like they drowned someplace else and floated here with the current either. Water spirits know their area, and they usually only stay in the area of the water where they drowned. Very few leave.”
Lan Xichen nodded. “Correct. Therefore, I sense that this is no small matter and let Wangji come along in case of mishaps.”
Luo Wuxian responded, “Zewu-Jun, water spirits are very clever. If we row our boats and look for them slowly like this, wouldn’t we have to keep looking for them in case they continue to hide underwater without coming out? What if we can’t find them?”
Lan Wangji said, “Stop once we find them. It is our duty to the place.”
Luo Wuxian replied, “Catch them just by using nets?”
Lan Xichen affirmed, “Correct. Could it be that the Yunmeng Jiang Sect has a different method?”

Luo Wuxian smiled, but didn’t answer. Of course the Yunmeng Jiang Sect also used nets, but he was a strong swimmer and had always jumped into rivers to drag water spirits up directly. This method was too dangerous, and he definitely could not use it in front of the members of the Lan Clan. If it spread to Lan Qiren’s ears, then it was inevitable that he would be lectured again
Luo wuxian thought 'and im a half heavenly demon i could literally destroy them without lifting a finger '
He changed the subject and said, “It would be good if there were something like fish bait that could attract water spirits to come. Or something that could point out their location, like a compass.”
Jiang Cheng commented, “Look down at the water and concentrate on finding them. You’re letting your imagination run wild again.”
Luo Wuxian said, “Cultivation and riding on swords were also letting one’s imagination run wild once!”
He lowered his head and happened to see the bottom of the boat Lan Wangji was on. His thoughts churned, and he shouted, “Lan Zhan, look at me!”
Luo wuxian looked at the bottom of the boat and glared seeing water ghouls below his fiancé boat
Luo wuxian he rages to the waterghouls telepathically.
The waterghouls shivered and clung on the boat because they knew if they went the person who talked to them telepathically will kill them quicker so they decided to surrender to their fate and be cleansed to go to the reincarnation cycle
Right at that moment, Lan Wangji was focused and on alert, and having heard what was said, he couldn’t help but look at him. However, he saw the bamboo pole in luo Wuxian’s hand scratch the surface of the water, spraying him with a loud splash from the pole. With a tap of his foot, Lan Wangji lightly leapt onto another boat, avoiding the spray. Angry that he came to joke around as expected, he remarked, “Ridiculous!” but in the inside he was pouting why his secret fiancé did that
Yet, Luo Wuxian kicked the side of the boat he had been on and raised his bamboo pole, flipping the boat over onto its side and exposing its bottom. Three water spirits with swollen faces and skin that was deathly white clung firmly to the wooden boards of the boat’s bottom! The disciples close by immediately subdued the three of them. Smiling, Lan Xichen asked, “Young Master Luo, how did you know they were at the bottom of the boat?”
Luo Wuxian knocked on the side of the boat. “Simple! The draft of the boat wasn’t right. A moment ago, he was the only one who stood on the boat, but the draft was greater than that of a boat with two people. There was definitely something clinging onto the bottom of the boat.”
Luo wuxian thought ' and obviously i could feel resentful energy below the boat'
Lan Xichen praised him, “You are indeed experienced.”
Lio Wuxian gently pushed through the water with his bamboo pole, and his boat sped up, drifting so he was side by side with Lan Wangji. With the two boats next to each other, he said, “Lan Zhan, I didn’t splash you on purpose just now. Water spirits are very clever. If I said it out loud, they would’ve heard it and escaped. Hey, pay attention to me. Look at me, Second Young Master Lan.”
Lan Wangji gave him a glance and disparaged him, “Why did you come along?”
Luo Wuxian sincerely replied by whispering, “I wanted to spend time with you"
The furrow between Lan Wangji’s brows dissapered , he still had the same expression though because luo wuxian didnt stay when lan wangji said too , yesterday. Knowing the answer already, Wei Wuxian still asked, “Why do you have such an unpleasant expression on? Don’t worry, I really came to spend time with you today.”
Jiang Cheng couldn’t watch this any longer, and he said, “Stop spouting nonsense if you want to help. Get over here!”
A disciple yelled, “The net moved!”
Sure enough, the ropes of the nets suddenly trembled. Luo Wuxian was reinvigorated. “It’s here, it’s here!”
Thick, long hair that was like black silk surged around the sides of the ten boats, and ghastly hands clung to the sides in pairs. Lan Wangji drew his sword from behind him, unsheathing Bichen. He severed a dozen or more wrists from the left side of the boat, leaving only palms with fingers that dug deeply into the wood. Just as he was about to sever ones on the right side, red light flashed past, and Luo Wuxian was already sheathing his sword.
The unusual change in the water stopped, and the ropes of the nets were undisturbed once more. Just now, Luo Wuxian’s sword had emerged extremely quickly, but Lan Wangji had been able to make out that he must be carrying a top-quality spiritual sword. With respect, he asked, “What is the name of this sword?”
Luo Wuxian replied, “Suibian.”
Lan Wangji looked at him. Luo Wuxian thought he didn’t hear him clearly, so he repeated, “Suibian.”
Lan Wangji raised a perfectly shaped eyebrow and refusing this. “This sword has a spirit. Addressing it as one wishes is disrespectful.”
Luo Wuxian sighed and said, “Think about it, won’t you? I’m not telling you to call it whatever you want, rather, this sword is called ‘Suibian.’ Here, look!” As he spoke, he handed it .
Lan wangji secretly rolled his eyes fondly which Luo wuxian grinned about.

They know little of what that means, but they have to figure out the rules that are now their lot, for they have little hope to escape their predicament otherwise. They need to understand what the descriptors in their minds mean, what each of the strange piece of gear waiting in treasure chests behind terrible guardians can bring them. They have to become Professionals on their own and rejoin the Empire. They will figure out their new lives one way or another. But will there be an Empire waiting for them when the Gates re-open? Caught in a clash of empires and high tiers, they will do what little they can. They will step up and do their best. One way or another. The Infinite Labyrinth is a slice-of-life litRPG adventure set in a real historical setting. It's a hard, crunchy litrpg. Expect blue boxes everywhere, and the system itself is very mathy. It started life as a serial. I prepared some proper worldbuilding, with enough details and background for lots of different potential story arcs, but as I wrote, I realized the main story needs to have a definitive end. So, there are four books in total, for a bit under 1500 pages, plus additional side stories, and even maybe a sequel one day. The Gore tag was added as a precaution because there are a few scenes with some light gore.
