《My Mate the Wanderer》26. Her Shift

I could feel Tyler weight pressing down on me as sharp shocks of pain traveled through my body.
"Aubree you have to stop resisting." Tyler's muffled voice said as it passed through my burning ears.
I tried to stop fighting him as I laid helplessly on the ground.
I could feel my heart slamming against my rib cage as waves of pain overcame me.
"Help me." I whimpered our.
"Shhh. Little one, you need to try and relax. Your too far in to go back."
I could feel the wetness on my cheeks as I rolled my face across the grass.
Tyler slowly pulled himself off of me and pushed the hair out of my face.
"Nathan I need you to run back to my house and get a blanket." He said as he tossed a set of keys to my brother.
"Is she gonna turn right now?" He said in a panicked voice.
"Ya, and based upon how she is going it's not going to be easy. I've never heard of anyone having their first shift on any day other then a full moon, but then again you and her and kind of anomalies." Tyler stated as he stared down at me intently.
I was able to follow their conversation now that I had more control over myself, but my head was pounding.
I watched as Nate turned around and ran as fast as he could towards the house.
"It's going to be alright. I'll be here to walk you through this." He said as he stroked my back.
Even just the slightest touch from him sent waves of fire and electricity through me.
The touch hurt so much but also felt so good.
I groaned as I felt a wave of pain shoot through my ribs.
A loud crack ripped through the air as my arm contorted into an unnatural position.
"Little one I have to take off your clothes now. It will make it so when your getting closer to your full shift that they don't tangle you up.
I slowly nodded my head as I tried to raise my body from the ground.
When I pushed myself up I let out a small whimper.
Even just sitting upright put immense pressure on my breaking bones.
Tyler slowly grabbed at the hem of my shirt and pulled it above my head leaving me only in my sports bra.
I moved my arms to cover myself only to be greeted with more sounds of breaking bones.
I doubled over in pain as the bones in my arm broke.
"How long is this going to last?" I asked breathlessly.

"It could be 15 minutes or it could be much longer then that. I don't really have a reference to go off of because I've never seen this before. Normally it takes about a half an hour on the first shift, but that's with the help of the moon." He said as he examined my body. "If you can try to lay down on your back."
I unfolded my body and laid down.
Although it was painful I felt a bit of relief from the position.
A few more cracks of bones breaking shattered through my body.
I cried out at the intensity.
I could feel my vision going from near darkness to intense brightness as I stared up at the afternoon sky.
Ever time my vision got dark I could only pray that I would pass out in hopes to get even a moment of relief.
Nathan had finally returned with the blanked and kneeled down beside me.
"You doin ok, Bree?" He asked with concern painting his face.
"I've been better." I painfully chuckled out.
"Ok, little one, we have to get the rest of your clothes off of you now." Tyler said as he lightly touched my arm. "Nathan can you hand me that blanket?"
Nate did as he was asked and tossed the blanket to Tyler.
He quickly laid the blanket over my body.
"Can you get off your shorts or do you need help?" Tyler asked in a compassionate tone.
I slowly sat up and started to pull down my shorts when suddenly another wave of brakes overcame me.
I fell back and gasped for breath as pains shot through my legs.
"I can't do it." I whimpered out.
Tyler looked at me with a pained expression.
"Give me two minutes. I'm going to get Jenna."
Tyler quickly darted off through the woods.
I looked over at Nate who looked completely lost and increasingly worried.
"Bree, I'm going to be honest, but I have no idea what I'm doing." He said with panic lacing his voice.
"That's fine just stay with me and distract me." I said in a raspy voice.
"Uh, Alright. Do you remember when we were little when Sarah still lived next door to us and she came over in the middle of the day and you two decided to play barber?" He said as he scooted closer to me.
"Ya." I lightly chuckled. "It was decided that you were going to be out customer and we ended up giving you the haircut of the century."
I felt more bones crack throughout my body and gasped at it.

Nate winced at the noise but continued "I looked like an old man at the age of 4. I remember Mom just ended up shaving it off, but you and Sarah weren't allowed near the scissors for a long time after that."
I looked up at the sky as I recalled the memory.
Sarah and I used to get into so much trouble with each other when we were little.
Suddenly I was brought back to reality when an onslaught of pain wracked my body with break after break happened.
I didn't know if I was close to being done shifting and I was far to afraid to look at my contorted body.
When the breaks died down I looked over at Nathan who had a look of worry on his face.
He glanced back over to me and let out a panicked chuckle. "I'm going to be honest here but you look like a mess."
I tried to respond but I was so exhausted that I only let out a light hum.
I looked around and noticed that my vision was much sharper then it had been a few minutes ago.
I also felt a twinge of resentment cross my mind.
Where was Accalia to guide me through this.
Why did she decide to play hooky at such a crucial time as this.
I spent the next couple of minutes just listening for Tyler's footfalls in the distance.
After a bit of listening I finally heard a couple sets of footfalls in the distance.
I waited until they entered into the clearing and let out a sigh of relief.
"Jeez you weren't kidding. I really thought you were just playing a joke on me." Jenna said to Tyler. "You really waited until the last minute to come and get me too."
Jenna quickly walked over and kneeled beside me. "Don't you worry I've come to save the day Aubree!"
I let out a small smile as I looked at her.
Jenna quickly turned around and shooed the guys away.
"I'll try to be as gentle as I can but it will still more then likely hurt. If you want I can always cut them off. I even brought a knife just in case."
"Just cut them off." I croaked out.
I couldn't deal with this pain let alone moving my body around to get these stupid clothes off.
Jenna quickly moved the blanket off of me and cut off the remainders of my clothes.
"It's such a shame too, those were really cute shorts." She said lightly.
I could tell that she was trying to make me laugh so I would get a second of relief from the pain but I was too tired to be effected by it.
I gave her a small nod in thanks.
"I can stay if you want." Jenna said as she looked over my partially shifted body before covering me back up with the blanket.
"No, that's ok, but thank you for your help." I quietly whispered.
"Ok well I gave Tyler my number on the way here in case you need me again. If it makes you feel any better it looks like your about halfway there, and normally the second half goes faster." She said as she gave my hand a gently squeeze.
Jenna quickly stood up and gave a quick nod to Tyler and Nathan then ran off towards the edge of the woods.
"Good luck!" She shouted over her shoulder and she passed into the tree line.
Tyler quickly walked up to me and kneeled by my head.
"I have an idea but I don't know if it'll work." He hesitantly said. "I might be able to compel you shift into happening more quickly. It would be more of just a pain explosion instead of this."
I thought it over for a minute.
I remember Tyler telling me about it being difficult to compel those who are close to him, but I figured it was worth a shot.
"Do it." I stated.
"Ok, if we're going to do this you'll have to clear your mind and trust me. Just focus on my eyes." He said as he leaned in closer.
"Shift." He commanded as his pupils filled his irises.
I stared into his eyes but to no avail.
"Shift." He commanded again with more force, but still noting happened.
"Shift now!" He growled down at me.
I let out a frustrated breath.
I really hoped that that would work.
Suddenly my body ignited in pain.
I screamed out as I felt every bone in my body broke and moved.
My head felt like it exploded a hundreds time over and my body felt like it was being run over by a steam roller.
I rolled over onto my stomach as I watched my fingers bend and break.
Small hairs started to poke through my skin.
It felt like my skin had lava being poured over it.
It happened quickly but not fast enough.
After a minute of two the noise of the breaking stopped as I laid panting on my side.
"Holy shit." Nate and Tyler whispered out in unison.

8 76Re: (Union//Incarnation)
Two years ago, a meteor fell and decimated the southeastern lands of Gaia, turning them into wastelands constantly shrouded in white fog. None of those who saw the blazing calamity with their own eyes lived to tell the tale, and those who attempted to venture in never came back. Since then, towers, caverns, and ruins have appeared and disappeared without a pattern. Those who were brave enough to venture in were rewarded with a partner capable of defying the natural laws as humanity knows it. People started to call them ‘Incarnation’, and before long, more and more Incarnation were gathered and sold as commodity, especially after a billionaire has sponsored a fighting tournament offering cash prizes to those possessing the strongest Incarnation, spurring the greedy and desperate to hunt for the fabled creatures at the cost of their lives. Claire Saphira wanted none of that. She simply wished for a life where she could live without worry of her own survival. As she ran from the debt collectors for the umpteenth time, she was swallowed by an errant tower, where she saw a frail, pale-skinned girl with ashen hair hung by chains. It was a chance, a chance to participate in the tournament and live without worrying about survival. Yet, something nagged in the back of her mind. Why did she look so familiar? Planned release schedule: One chapter every day for Mon-Fri, and a break on Sat-Sun. The release will slow down at some point, but most likely won't go under 3 chapters a week.

I'm writing day by day without plan nor any idea of where the story is going and I'll be making no effort of editing or proofreading until I'm done with the story if ever. Be warned. Blue sky, blue water, blue moon, green pasture, this is the world of Blue. Long ago, the known world was divided into six kingdoms each embodying its own element. War and violence were everywhere, and the people suffered until one day the death lord had enough. Breaking a long-standing alliance with the Life lord, they killed him and resurrected him as a pawn. Before long, all but the fire lord were puppets under their rule, but the people rejoiced as war was all but finished... … but it was not to be. The death lord grew old. By the time of their final victory, they were already at death door with the armies of the fallen lord still disputing their heritage. Desperate to take things under control before his final demise, a ritual was conceived, one to transform the dying lord into an undying lich. The ritual worked but not without an unforeseen consequence: only the living can control the dead. As one, his former minions rose to overthrow them and before long the powerful elemental lords ruled again as the wight kings. Now immortal, their rules and their war became more cruel than ever and the people despaired, all the blame falling on the one they had once claimed their savior. The wight king's war lasted for six hundred year, but eventually even them were consumed by its violence and peace came.
