《My Mate the Wanderer》14. Conviction

"A hybrid with what?" I said with less panic in my voice the I though it should have had.

These last couple of days have really started to desensitize me from this insanity that is now my life.

"Let me preface this by saying that most of the creature that you here about in stories are for the most part true. Excluding a few over the top ones like the Loch Ness monster and Bigfoot." He pause for a moment while I collected myself.

"I'm a werewolf-vampire hybrid, Aubree, I was born into a life like this and not changed like most vampires are."

I sucked in a breath and let myself mull over what he just said.

"Do you have to drink blood then?"

"Yes and no. Probably not in the way your thinking. Normally hunting for game is enough to keep my vampire instincts at bay. The blood from them is normally enough unless I get hurt or something."

I thought carefully over his answer before I responded.

"So essentially you don't go after humans or anything like that?"

Tyler nodded at me. "It's one of the many ways I vary from vampires. I can also walk in the sun and do not suffer as harshly from blood withdrawal."

"Ok," I began, as I carefully thought about my next question. "So does your werewolf side get affected like your vampire side?"

"Ya, once again I'm not bound to any of the down sides of it. I don't have to turn on a full moon and I'm not as badly affected by silver. I'm also much stronger and faster then either species." He said as a smirk tugged at his lips.

"Our mate is strong, girl, just like we will become." Accalia purred into my mind.

My mind got ripped away from my thoughts when it hit me. "Wait, does being a vampire have anything to do with how you convinced my parents to let me go with you, you know, like in the tv shows?"

"That's correct, my clever little mate." Tyler's beast huskily purred out. "I compelled them into thinking that you had already discussed it with them a couple weeks ago."

I hated to admit it but this all had me very fascinated.

I think that was due to the shock of initially finding out wearing off.

It suddenly clicked in my head; this is the adventure that I had been looking for in life.

It was almost like I had always know this would happen as the piece started to fall into place.

It's also explained why I had always felt like such an outsider at school.

Maybe I just was never meant to have a human life.

"What about my family? Could you tell if they were like me?" I said quickly.

"Your younger brother and your mother, but your dad is as human as they come."

"Oh." I said a little sadly.

"There is a choice you will have to make, Aubree, to stay or to go. I don't expect an answer before you go through your first shift but you need to keep it in the back of your mind." Tyler said with empathy in his voice.

"I will say though if you stay you would inevitably have to tell them because you won't age much after your shift. It also could put them at risk, but I will help you either way, and if you tell them and they don't handle it well I could compel them to forget. I would only do that if that is what you deem is necessary."

I sighed and looked deep into the woods and I chewed on the idea, he wasn't kidding about me having a tough decision ahead of me.

Do I want my family to have this sort of life?

"Just think about it." Tyler said sweetly as he slowly rubbed my back sending sparks throughout my body.

The contact from his skin on my skin calmed me down, and made Accalia purr in delight.

I nodded and I held back tears that I refused to let fall.

I concentrated on my breathing to calm myself as Tyler's hand slowly slid up my back up to my exposed shoulder.

I closed my eyes as I felt the heat of Tyler body move closer to mine and he planted a light kiss on my shoulder right next to the rogue wolf bite.

When I opened my eyes I saw that his were fully black but they didn't carry the lust in them that they had earlier.

"I'm sorry again that I couldn't protect you from that beast." Tyler softly said against my skin as a growl rippled through his lips.

The feeling of his breath against the tender wound made me shiver and made Accalia purr contently at the closeness of our mate.

"It's not your fault, I'm the one who ran into the woods like a clueless child."

I felt Accalia growl at me. "We are not clueless, girl, the moon goddess planned for us to be there at that time so we would find our mate. Be proud of our experiences so that we become stronger because of it."

I sighed and nodded my head.

Tyler pulled his head away from my shoulder and softly spoke. "Nuntis just told me what Accalia said, you should listen to her Aubree, she is right. He is proud of our mate and knows that you will become a strong wolf with purpose."

I jerked my head with a single nod of conviction.

I wouldn't let this change what I'm going to do in life, I have the resolve to deal with this and thrive as the wolf that I am supposed to be.

Accalia yipped in delight at my change of heart and it swelled as I realized that everyone here had my back.

I looked down at my watch and looked at the time '3:27 pm' I knew what I had to do and quickly turned on my heal with determination and ran full force back to the cabin.

As the wind rippled through my hair I felt Tyler close in on me.

I pushed my body harder so that I could make my wolf and my male proud.

I refused to stop until we reached the cabin, and as soon as we burst through the tree line I looked at my watch.

3:49 pm.

22 minutes was all it took us to get back.

I collapsed onto the ground and sucked in a massive breath of air.

My lungs were on fire and my legs felt like jello.

Tyler let out a hearty laugh from beside me.

"You really had us running there little mate. I like this resolve in you, it's kind of hot."

My beast let out a playful growl.

I sat in the grass with my arms behind my back to hold me up as I recovered from our run back to the house.

Never have I ever felt more alive then when I ran through those woods with Tyler.

When the burning in my lungs lessened and my legs felt more stable I stood up.

I felt content and happy.

I was adapting to the changes in my life as best as I could and if I'm going to be honest I think I'm doing a pretty darn good job with it.
