Ambrosia groaned, feeling completely exhausted even now as she peeled her aching eyelids to flutter open. They felt heavy, the action of allowing her to see being so much harder than usual but soon enough, the light flashed her eyes and she cringed, head-splitting in pain. A thousand sensations succumbed her in an instant and the moment she opened her eyes; she knew that she had been out for a long time.

Ambrosia found herself tucked up in a single bed, blankets wrapped around her rather carefully and although her eyes, head and neck ached, her limbs heavy- she was curiously okay. The next thing to hit her like a railway train was the fear, it came back in full force and the reason for her exhaustion was soon clear. Victoria, the woman who she had seen during her childhood and who had now kidnapped her to begin a new 'family', had drunk from her. It just made Ambrosia dislike her more. And she knew then that she wasn't safe after all.

"I shouldn't have done that" when the vampire spoke, Ambrosia jolted in shock. The windows of the room painted a night sky beyond and her brain- despite the severity of the situation- could not help but drift back to the Cullens, they'd surely have noticed her absence by now, what were they doing? Were they close to finding her? She had a hundred thousand questions and no answers. She didn't seem likely to receive any anytime soon as Victoria blinked at her with deluded ruby red eyes. "I didn't mean to hurt you, Ambrosia. But you have upset me! You sided against me, with our enemy! I assure you, I will crack through whatever delusion they have created for you, Rosia. We will be a family again."

"Victoria, please. Just let me go."

"You know that I cannot do that, Rosia. You know that you are my daughter now and I will protect you. You are going to sit here and think about all that has happened. You are going to sit here and consider who is your real family. You are not the Rosia I remember!"

"That's because the Rosia you remember was five!" Ambrosia stressed but she knew that she wasn't talking to someone who had rational logic. James' death had destroyed Victoria but that wasn't an excuse for what she was doing now.

"It would do you well to stop talking Ambrosia! You are making me very unhappy and you do not want to see me unhappy. You are quiet and you would do well to stay that way." Victoria snapped and vanished, making Ambrosia jump as she suddenly left, the door slamming shut in her wake.

Ambrosia groaned as she dragged herself to stand, her legs felt like lead beneath her as she forced herself over to the door and as expected, she found it to be locked. Releasing a noise of helplessness and agitation, Ambrosias lightly tanned hands wound around the door handle and she shook it with all her remaining strength.

"Victoria!" She yelled, not entirely certain what she wanted but knowing that she wasn't safe there, with the crazy lady. It was the most noise Ambrosia had made in years as she slammed her hands in irritation against the sturdy, windowless oak door. Her veins felt like sandpaper and every movement she made seemed sluggish, but the need to survive and complete the basic human necessity outweighed the exhaustion as she weakly hit her hands on the door.

Groaning, she sighed and allowed herself to slide to the ground, her knees involuntarily curling upwards as she crumbled. Ambrosia didn't know what was happening but as she strained her ears, she could hear the front door swing shut and the unmistakable noise of a car. Victoria had drunk her blood, locked her in a room and left her there. And all for what? Head flopping backwards to stare at the plain unpainted ceiling above her, hot salty tears brimmed in her eyes.

Ambrosia knew it was nighttime only by the sight of the moon shimmering high in the sky and she had the unshakable desire to be lying in Edward's arms rather than sitting in the cold, faintly lit cottage house all on her own. Her fingers seemed to trail up to her neck, perhaps as an afterthought and the rough texture of the bite marks that remained there met her fingers. She was marked now from what Victoria had done and as Ambrosia cried and prayed to whatever God would listen, the exhaustion finally began to slowly take over.

The weak human flopped sideways where she lay on the floor, missing a substantial amount of blood, in a house with no heating. All alone. Her future hung in the balance that night because Victoria didn't know what to do with her. Collecting Ambrosia was not supposed to have been so difficult. Ambrosia was supposed to come to her easily, to be the family that Victoria had lost but instead, she was met with surprising resistance. Ambrosia- in Victoria's opinion- had been mind-controlled, the Cullens had 'corrupted her'.

Elsewhere, the Cullens patrolled the forest, just as emotional as the human girl herself. They were terrified for her because, in the game of vampire versus human, they knew that the vampire won every single time. Edward would not rest until he found her, and none of them was aware that not too far away, trapped all alone in a random pretty cottage- was the human they searched so frivolously for... Just waiting to be rescued.
