The lamplight bathed their bedroom in a warm, inviting glow as he lay quietly between the bedsheets. Sleep was one thing that Edward Cullen could not achieve but lying there, with his sleeping mate sprawled lazily half across him, he knew that it was the closest to dreaming as he could capably be. Ambrosia's small body was so warm where she lay on top of him and it was inviting, she was so addicting to him, everything about her made his heart positively melt.

Before Edward had met her, he was so lonely. It was something he never really told anybody about. He could read people so easily, but he was completely detached from everyone himself. His brother would have been in the exact same situation as him, surrounded by happily married couples, if Fredrick didn't have the impulsive tendency to spend time with random human girls who were all too eager to accept his affection and all too easy for him to cut himself off from.

And then he had met her, when they had first arrived in Forks Washington and from his very first glance, Edward could see how incredibly shy she was. The instant he noticed her sweet blush and afraid Bambi eyes, he promised himself that he would stay away. He'd deprived him of the one thing he had spent centuries searching for, all because he was afraid of hurting her. And each and every day that went by, he could see how lonely she was, even surrounded by her family. They didn't really understand why she was the way that she was, nobody did and he found himself wanting to find out.

Edward convinced himself that her bumping into him was all an accident, that he didn't intend for it to happen but truthfully- he could have stepped out of her way if he truly wanted to. It was that initial contact that he needed, as an excuse to draw himself close to her. And it was like walking peacefully down a mountain after you struggled up it. He fell head over heels for Ambrosia in the shortest possible amount of time. Alice had predicted it, how easily he would grow to love the human, to want to protect her. But until he actually experienced it himself- Edward didn't truly understand the effect that love could have on a human.

Ambrosia hummed gently in her sleep and Edward froze involuntarily, not wanting to wake her. The second she stirred, she was cuddling back into him again. He knew that to her, his body must be hard and cold but she clung to him as though he was the most comforting pillow and he accepted that. Holding onto him had her sleeping with a small, unrestrained smile on her plump lips.

Edward knew that he relied on Ambrosia, that without her he would be completely lost but he couldn't bring himself to care. She gave him a purpose which was the one thing that he had been looking for his entire immortal life. She was his reason to live now and he couldn't see that as a bad thing. Carlisle had told him many times before that one day, Edward would meet the person that put it all into perspective, the person who made it all worth it but he had never believed, not until he got to know her and she slowly withdrew from the shell she had forced herself into.

He knew that he would marry her one day, whether she was human or not. He would go down on one knee and present her with his mother's ring. He knew that they would wed in front of very few people so that she could truly express how she felt without embarrassment. He knew that he would take her on the worlds best honeymoon and that after, he'd give her the life she truly deserved. He found himself so painfully eager to make all of that happen but for now, at least, he knew that the little things were more than enough. Cooking together in the high-tech kitchen and driving around town in the rain singing loudly to the same CD on repeat, reading 'The Great Gatsby' to her as she drifted off to sleep in his arms, knowing the words off by heart from all the times he had spoken them but holding the book between his hands because the sound of the pages turning soothed her.

In such a short amount of time, he had grown to know so much about her. He knew the expression she made when she was happy, the way her voice changed when they were in a crowded room. He knew how her eyebrows crinkled as she sifted through the clothes hanging in the wardrobe and how her eyes lightened when she had a book in hand. It was like a fairytale, the way he loved her. He knew that without a doubt, she made him a better person. He had never laughed as much as he did with her beside him, or felt his heartache to beat so persistently than when they kissed.

All the thoughts that swirled in his mind so suddenly that night had him drawing her in closer to him, appreciating the way she melted into his touch and tightened her grip on his shirt beneath her lightly tanned palm as if releasing him would make him disappear forever. Edward knew that to many people, his relationship with Ambrosia probably didn't seem perfect, but to him it was. To him, it was everything he'd ever wanted and the thought of teasing her and making her laugh for the rest of eternity had a smile stretching on his lips as he held her that night.
