Ambrosia grinned as she pulled her designated blanket close around her, watching the rain pour beyond the window. The grey throw was the blanket that Edward kept in his car specifically for his human girlfriend, purely because he adored the way her eyes lit up every time she wrapped herself in it in the car. It was that morning that he also handed her a hot chocolate in a flask as she stepped into the car for school and he had never seen her so happy, her teeth glittering as she cuddled the warmth to her chest.
"You're so cute" Edward chuckled as he pulled away from the curb and began to drive them both to school, she was busy humming happily to herself and her nose screwed up cutely as she giggled, her cheeks blooming a marvellous red at the compliment. It didn't matter how many times Edward complimented Ambrosia, she would always blush.
"I don't want to go to school" she decided and he rose an eyebrow, laughing softly.
"You love school."
"Not today." she shook her head in denial and he frowned, chuckling at her mocking pout.
"Well, that is unfortunate because we're here," he informed and gestured around them which made her glare at the rain. Leaning across, Edward directed her face to look at him and he smiled when she did, kissing her once softly and then twice, after the third soft kiss, he stopped and pulled back. "Come on Baby, before Alice starts getting the wrong idea" he winked and she blushed.
"Second base" Ambrosia hummed and he nodded, grinning. Second base was the cut-off point. "Is it even possible to go past second base in a car?" she laughed.
"We'll find out one day" he winked cheekily and she felt her cheeks instantly inflame so she preoccupied herself as a distraction, as Ambrosia folded her blanket neatly, she didn't realise him move around the car until he'd opened her door for her.

"My lady" he grinned, holding out his hand to help her out charmingly and she laughed as she threads her fingers through his, allowing him to pull her up and into the rain. Closing the door carefully behind her, he reached down and pulled the hood of her yellow rain mac over her curls to protect her pretty face from the rain that continued to hammer down around them, fragrancing the air with a damp tarmac smell. "Let's find the others" he smiled and she nodded as she looped her hand through the circle of his arm and walked alongside him across the lot, it was only then that she realised her plain black, non-descript bag over his shoulder with his own. As she reached to take it, he dodged, whistling casually.
"Amby" Alice practically bounced on the spot as she pulled her into a hug and Ambrosia giggled as she returned the hug, cheeks a cherry red before she nodded at Jasper who saluted her with a wink. "We have to find Bella! It's her birthday!"
"We know, Alice. You've been talking about it for a month" Edward mocked and his sister shot him a glare before suddenly squealing- making Ambrosia cringe into Edwards side- as her eyes finally fell upon the birthday girl.
"She said not to make a big deal out of it, Alice" Ambrosia smiled sweetly, innocently and Alice pouted.
"Edward wouldn't let me make a big deal out of your birthday either" Alice pouted and it all suddenly made a lot more sense to her, over the summer she had had her seventeenth birthday and Alice hadn't so much as thrown a party.
"We went for a picnic" Ambrosia recalled with a dreamy smile and Edward chuckled.
"Classy Ed, really know how to make a girl feel special" Jasper smirked and the mind reader elbowed him, just making him laugh.

"I got this" Ambrosia perked up and showed Jasper the silver locket that hung around her neck.
"Pretty" the major smiled and she beamed in response. Ambrosia had never made much of a big deal about her birthday, considering she lived in an orphanage and had no real family but Edward made her feel special- Even with the little things. The mind reader theorised that if he started simple and sweet, he could out-do himself every year.
"Bella" Ambrosia grinned as the brunette approached them with Fred at her side and the two Masen boys nodded at one another in greeting. Pulling Bella into a friendly hug, Ambrosia chose to whisper her words rather than shout them as Alice had. "Happy Birthday."
"Thank you, Rosia" Bella blushed, moving to stand beside Fred with a small cough as silence fell over the group.
"Incoming" Edward hummed and his brother whipped around, instantly glaring at the sight of the boy that appeared in front of them with a warm smile for Bella. Jacob Black grinned when he saw his friend and the warmth in his eyes made Ambrosia smiled up at Edward who returned it, tensely, absentmindedly straightening her hood without really thinking about it but she didn't mind. Ambrosia could never get enough of Edwards affection. "What is your first lesson?"
"English lit. And we get to write an essay on a novel of our choice." Her eyes lit up excitably and he chuckled. Fred merely rose an eyebrow, seeing how excited the girl was, she had spoken more words than he had heard from her in the whole time they'd known one another.
"Let me guess" Edward teased. "The Odyssey... Wuthering Heights...Ooh, no no... Of Mice and Men?" he winked and she pouted crossing her arms, much to his amusement. "Could it be... The Great Gatsby?"
"Well you are no Gatsby are you" she retorted, whipping her head away from him stubbornly and he clutched his hand to his chest, feigning hurt and making her giggle. "You're better."
"Nice save" he smiled, teeth bright as he kissed her once on the forehead. Straightening and zoning back into the conversation happening around them, Edward met eyes with Fredrick who- when he saw him- made a fake gagging sound that had the mind-reader rolling his eyes.

Shadow in the North
What if a work of fiction wasn't fiction at all? What if we only thought it was fiction because it was written down, and we were separated from it by the page? Isabel Darrow, troubled by her past and feeling disconnected from the world, likes her doctor's suggestion that the world of fiction might become reality. She likes the idea of waking up in the middle of her favourite book with the handsome, brooding Mr Thornton glaring at people in his mill yard, but she doesn't worry about the foul air of dirty, smoky Milton, because it's not real, and it was written over 160 years ago.But then she takes a trip to Oxford, and gets waylaid along the way, finding herself greeted at a smoky train station, by a man called Mr Hale, who claims to be her godfather. When Isabel meets Margaret and first sees Mr Thornton, she's determined to help the course of love run a little more smoothly for the two stubborn lovers. But Gaskell hadn't accounted for a second young lady in the Crampton house, and whilst Isabel tries to adapt to a life where women have no independence or equality, Milton must adapt to her. The question is, will Mr Thornton adapt to her, or Margaret, first?
