《✔️Ambrosia (Edward Cullen) BOOK ONE》18 - "Chinese Takeout"

Ambrosia hugged her overnight bag to her chest, nerves pulsing through her body as Edwards car rounded the driveway, behind the shiny red car owned by Rosalie. The giant house that became visible before them, kissed the sky, a mirage of woods and windows, the complete opposite of expectation. It was beautiful and open, tucked up within the beautiful greenery of the forest, the forest that still struck fear into Ambrosia's heart as she glanced around at it, within the shade of the house.
"Are you ready?" it was such a simple question but it meant so much more, it was simple to be with Edward, knowing that he was a vampire while in public because in public, they acted human, in all effects they were human. Here would be different, that was apparent from the very first moment as Alice escaped the confinements of the car ahead and lept elegantly like a cat into one of the second-story windows that had been left open. To enter was to truly accept.
"I'm ready" she assured, her green eyes sparkling. For the first time since being a child, Ambrosia felt that she belonged, her timid nature fit right in here with the vampires who understood her, accepted her silence in return for her secrecy. For the longest time, Ambrosia had been searching for a place to call home and as cruel as it was, she hadn't ever found that in the orphanage. It was full of children and teenagers waiting to meet their true families, even Pheobe, Max, Teddy and Roz were waiting for someone to come along and rescue them.
Edward was by her side in an instant, opening the door with a smile, the tense expression diminished from his face as she took his hand. His golden eyes showed that he was free here, in this beautiful wooden fortress. "Come and meet my parents properly" he implored but she knew it was a question, not that she could refuse now. Edward gently pried the bag from her fingers, slinging it over his shoulder as they proceeded through the front door. She could feel her heart hammering in her chest and did her best to tame it, they could all hear it rattling along like a broken train.

Together they walked into the heart of the house and Ambrosia couldn't help but look around with wide eyes, taking in every aspect of it with a soft smile on her face. It was beautiful and in the far corner, a gorgeous piano was nestled, reminding her of simpler times. Her mother was a pianist, strictly as a hobby, playing for a few local events and weddings. But the love for it had rubbed off on Ambrosia, there was a much smaller, much less sophisticated piano at the orphanage which she had learnt to play. Music was the one time that Ambrosia wasn't silent.
"Ambrosia" Edward smiled down at her and she followed his gaze over to the stairs, meeting two faces, smiling in greeting. One was familiar as doctor Carlisle Cullen and the other she presumed to be his wife. The Cullen mother was gorgeous, as was common with vampires but as well as her stunning face, Esme Cullen radiated a beautiful aura, everything about her was motherly and inviting. Her heart-shaped face welcomed the human with a smile, delicately surrounded by soft caramel waves, her passionate topaz eyes sparkling despite the absence of real light.
"Pleasure to meet you again Ambrosia" Carlisle stepped forward with a bright grin and she returned it, closing the space to shake his hand. The parents were being timid, that much was evident, they didn't know how she would react to them but Ambrosia was calm here with the sound of silence all around and the perfect temperature of the room they stood within. She was content.
"Good to see you again... Carlisle" she returned, following with his first name basis and he seemed to appreciate it, his own eyes glowing happily. Everything about Carlisle implied that he trusted her to keep their secret.

"I would like you to meet my wife, Esme." Carlisle beamed, gesturing behind him at the beautiful motherly lady who smiled in return though didn't approach. So, stepping widely out fo her comfort zone, Ambrosia walked toward her, pausing a metre away and smiling.
"It's nice to meet you Mrs Cullen" she was shy again now, worried that the lady wouldn't like her, that was just abolished when Esme pulled her into a hug. Ambrosia couldn't help but return it in an instant, it felt so natural.
"Please, call me Esme" her voice was just as stunning as she was as she placed a soft hand on Ambrosia's cheek, taking in the features of her face with a pleased smile. "We are so happy that you are here with us, with Edward" she reiterated and the green-eyed girl couldn't help but flash a brilliant bright white beam.
"We will leave the two of you to it" Carlisle smiled, looking back at Edward as he wrapped an arm around Ambrosia to which he was granted with a beam from her.
"See you later" Esme smiled and wandered off with Carlisle, smiling happily, proud of her son.
"What would you like to do?" he wondered, having noticed her previous interest in her piano. "Do you play?" he wondered and she shook her head instantly.
"Not really" he narrowed his eyes at her, detecting the lie and dragging her slowly over to it, pushing her to sit. The vampire slowly placed his hands into position on the piano keys, watching her as she assessed the black-white mirage. As he played the tune, she placed her hands beside his and played the same on the opposite end, in perfect harmony. The bronze haired Cullen couldn't help the beam that split across his cheeks as he watched her.
"What would you like for dinner?" he wondered a short time later, pulling a few fliers from a drawer by the front door. "Chinese Takeout?"
