Ambrosia ate her cereal calmly, aware that the clock was ticking and that it would soon be eight. Children around her babbled, being cared for and fed by the various housekeepers. She was certain that by the next month, there would be a new set of prospective carers, teenagers returning from college found it a good part-time job, they didn't realise that when they came and left so readily, it wasn't just a job, this was children's lives, they didn't understand why they were fed by somebody new every day. All Ambrosia hoped was that by the time they were old enough to understand, they had been adopted.

With the loud atmosphere of the kitchen, she was over joyous when the clock finally ticked to eight.

"Goodbye Miss Everett" she smiled softly at the ageing woman who had been the only permanent figure in her life since she was five.

"Have a good day, sweet girl" she returned from where she stood, looking over a few letters they had received in the mail. Slipping on her coat, Ambrosia was hopeful that he would be waiting for her outside, she didn't know what would happen if he had just been saying it to be a good person. Thankfully for her, when she opened the door, she saw a familiar silver Volvo parked across the road, opposite her house. Trundling toward it, she awkwardly opened the door to see his smiling face. He looked the same as before, only now he was dressed in fresh clothing.

"Hi"

"Good Morning Ambrosia" her sweet smile returned as she dropped her bag into the footwell and slipped into the comfortable leather of the passenger seat. A beautiful smell met her nose in an instant and she couldn't help but relax, slouching softly as she clipped her seatbelt under his intense gaze. "How are you today?" he wondered, pulling away from the curb as her eyes scanned him, taking in every little movement he made as they drove.

"I'm good" she smiled beside herself, Edward Cullen had a strange tendency of making Ambrosia feel incredibly comfortable. It was a notion she had never experienced with anybody before. He was something different but she loved it. "How are you?" Her earlier conversation with Pheobe within the third-floor bathroom came to mind. The well versed romantic that was Pheobe had many tips and tricks to share but her number one recommendation for Ambrosia was to open herself up. There was nothing to be lost from being open with somebody.

She hadn't always been that way. Before Ambrosia's parents had died, she was a bubbly charming girl whose parents would tease could talk your ears off. Granted, she was only a child then but even so, her parent's deaths had changed the course of her life, she was different now to how anybody would've expected.

"Very good" he smiled, seemingly secret meaning behind his glistening golden eyes.

Edward had no idea what he was doing, in all his years since he had succumbed to his illness, Edward had never gotten close to a human. This was for a number of reasons, he couldn't risk it for the sake of his family, who would have to move if this ended badly... Or could be slaughtered by the Volturi. He also couldn't allow a human to come to harm because of his selfish actions, he would rather spend eternity alone. But Ambrosia was different, he wasn't sure what exactly had happened, one minute they were strangers and the next, he was destined to spend his existence protecting her. Ambrosia was everything he considered good in the world. The irony that was the meaning behind her unique name was not lost on him. Her name meant food for the Gods, or the name itself meant 'immortal' in Greek, two things that Edward wished for her to never become.

Edward has stayed away from her for a year, watching her but never approaching, as though she was some dangerous, mythical creature. But a small bump into him on the first day of a new year had changed that and now that he was in on this relationship with her, he couldn't bring himself to be without her. She was soft and gentle, silent which was something that would be important. Even from a few short weeks of knowing her, Edward knew that Ambrosia could be trusted.

Even his family had little complaint about their blooming relationship, Alice had been secretive as usual but smiled mischievously any time he said anything about the shy girl. He wished he knew what the secret looks were for but his sister had grown to be good at hiding her thoughts.

Jasper was equally happy for him. Despite Edward not being able to read Ambrosia's mind, Jasper could feel her feelings, he sensed the way she lit up when Edward was around and he knew, despite the danger, Edward was good for the girl. Carlisle found himself excited for his adoptive son, who would not be alone now, for the first time in a hundred years. And Esme mirrored this, she was always happy to see her children happy. Of course, it came with its problems, this new relationship but what friendship didn't? If it was meant to be, it would be.

Emmett was his usual bubbly side, and as one of the newest vampires, he could understand the human, see what attraction she had to Edward and what use they could have to her. She needed some excitement, they could all see that and Edward and Ambrosia were unmistakenly destined for one another. Even Rosalie, who was known for a bitchy nature in regard to most things, was happy for him, she said it was because she liked the girl but they all knew inwardly, Ambrosia had nothing to lose from being friends with them, she already had nothing and as horrible as it was, they wanted to make her life better.

"What sort of music do you like?" Ambrosia questioned awkwardly and he was shocked, having gotten used to the silence. However, this was an appreciated change. He answered her swiftly and the conversation continued, the pair learning more and more as time passed. Edward was shocked to learn that Ambrosia loved the Beatles, her favourite colour was lilac and her favourite flowers were sunflowers. Her birthday was in August, making her only barely seventeen and she had been in the orphanage since she was five.

After much discussion, they reached the high school carpark and the vampire pulled up beside his sibling's cars, the others all flocking around them like they were posing for a magazine. They all smiled when he arrived, all except for Freddie. Fred was Edwards biological brother, as much as that surprised people. Carlisle had saved them both at the same time, from the Spanish influenza and at the point of turning, Fred vanished, only to return fifty years later after years of murdering and partying. Now that Edward had Ambrosia, Fred was the only one who didn't have a mate.

And Fred wasn't happy about it. Over the past two decades, they had been forced to move early three times because Fred got too close to a human, having casual relationships and one night stands. He was eternally moody, much like Edward but there was nothing they could do about it. Fred was angry that his brother had found love before him.

"Would you like to meet my family?" Edward wondered and her mouth gaped slightly in horror but she nodded. He knew she didn't exactly want to but didn't have much choice seeing as they were crowded around the Volvo now. The two exited the car together, Ambrosia seeming smaller than usual as she cowered slightly. Edward placed a calming hand on her back and guided her forward. "Family" he nodded. "This is Ambrosia."

"Hi" she smiled.

"Ambrosia, this is everybody. Jasper and Alice, Rosalie and Emmett and my twin brother Freddie," he informed and she nodded at them all respectively. They gave their own versions of a greeting, all except for Fred who practically sneered and walked away, earning him a scoff and an eye roll from Emmett who was none too impressed.

A thundering growl erupted and an orange coloured truck rolled into the parking lot, gaining many glances from the students lingering around. This was new.

"That's the new girl" Alice bubbled, surprising Ambrosia slightly, she assumed she would have known this by now, had she paid attention to the gossip stream of high school. "Isabella Swan, the chief's daughter."
