《✔️Ambrosia (Edward Cullen) BOOK ONE》6 - "A forced Lunch"

Ambrosia walked nervously through the hallways of Forks High School, a light pink note clasped carefully within her fingers as she avoided people who were dotted around the halls, bustling around on their way to various activities. After much consideration with the help of Rosalind, Ambrosia had concluded that the best way to address Edward's note, was with a note of her own and it was just so lucky that the stalker that was Pheobe knew exactly which locker belonged to Edward Cullen.
Ambrosia was nervous because she knew that once the note had left her hands, she wouldn't be able to take it back, but she was hoping for the best from Edward. He was gentlemanly, and nothing in her letter had been anything other than formal and friendly as had his so she was uncertain why nerves raced through her so rapidly. She presumed that it was because the behaviour was so wildly unlike her. Oddly, the thought of stepping out of her comfort zone exhilarated her so she chose to act now before the nerves took over and she 'chickened out', as Teddy called it.
That was the reason why Ambrosia nervously slipped a pink sheet of paper into Edward Cullens locker that day, hoping that it was well-received. She had taken perhaps a little too long on her letter but she hoped he wouldn't notice the care she'd put into every word. Pheobe had teased that Ambrosia should go as far as to seal it was a kiss and a splash of perfume but Ambrosia hadn't gone completely insane just yet.
The second it had left her fingertips, Ambrosia regretted the decision but it was too late now. The note had been locked away, only now to be collected by Edward Cullen himself. With the panic finally beginning to settle within her, Ambrosia headed to the cafeteria where her family were forcing her to sit with them for lunch. It was a monthly tradition that they all had and inwardly, Ambrosia knew that she would cross paths with Edward in there but she built up all the courage within her and entered.
Facing the floor, Ambrosia quickly navigated herself to the table that she shared with her foster family on a monthly basis. She only managed to avoid a collision by staring at peoples shoes. She was sure that she was probably one of the only people who could identify a person solely by the shoes that they wore, the idea caused a smile to split on her cheeks.
"Did you do it?" Rosalind whispered excitably as she pulled her best friend to sit beside her, Ambrosia nodded awkwardly with a shy smile, hiding partly behind her hair. Roz cheered quietly, not wanting to let their other siblings in on the discussion, there would likely be no end to Teddy's teasing.

"Hey, did you lot hear that Miss E is setting up a meeting for Jaxson? Apparently, that young couple is interested in getting to know him a bit better." Max shrugged from across the table, the dark-skinned boy sipped his apple juice calmly as he told them this and they exchanged glances.
"That's good for him" Roz smiled sincerely. "I always think that it is better for the younger ones to get adopted."
"Yeah, there's no hope for us now" Teddy growled as he took a seat alongside Pheobe who looked oddly flustered. Ambrosia only noticed as she was incredibly observant. "Who would want to adopt a gaggle of ugly teenagers"
"Ted, mate, you know that that's not it. Can't you just be happy for Jaxson?" Max scolded, he was the one that seemed to be the most commonly angered by the dark-haired boy.
"First Amelia and now Jaxson, this has been a busy week for Miss E" Teddy scoffed, ignoring the way Max was glaring at him. Ambrosia vaguely noticed the side door opening and the Cullens entering, looking as though they were in the process of filming a Tv advert from the way they walked and smiled at one another, nobody talking. Ambrosia rarely sat in the cafeteria so this was one of the very rare times that she got to see the Cullens together. However, she was far too embarrassed by the letter she had given Edward to look up and stare at them. She was certain that he would have seen it by now.
"Why are you so jealous Ted? They're children" Rosalind was angry now and that was not a good sign, people around were beginning to stare at them.
"I just think, Miss E is far too invested in finding them homes, she couldn't give a shit about us anymore. When was the last time any of you brought yourself anything new? Hm? Well, that's because we've had our allowances cut. We barely have enough money buy ourselves food and we're driving shitty cars around the place" he was fuming, not so much at Miss Everett but at the system, that much had become clear now.
"That's not her fault Teddy, she doesn't control our allowance," Ambrosia stated softly, not wanting to cause any more friction, she just wanted to calm the friction that was steadily rising.
"Oh pipe down, mute." he spat at her and Max looked like he could punch him in the face for speaking to her like that. Teddy had come from a wealthy family, it had just been him and his father until his dad was in a car accident and he ended up an orphan. Teddy didn't get his fathers fortune until he turned eighteen and everyone certainly knew about the money behind his name, he was none too quiet about it. Ambrosia and Teddy got on the least between the five, the girl failing to understand is dark, sarcastic humour and he uncaring if she was shy and uncomfortable.

"Look, mate, you better shut that mouth of yours before I shut it for you. Ambrosia and Miss Everett aren't to blame for that stick shoved up your arse, alright? You uptight bastard. Nobody said you had to stay, alright? If this family is so shit, why don't you leave? You posh prat" Max boiled over, his usual gentle soul cowering away in the shadow of his anger.
"Max, what the hell? You can't talk to him like that" Pheobe raged in response and Ambrosia shook slightly, aware of the hundred eyes now trained on them, their voices only getting louder as people quietened and turned to openly stare.
"Don't get involved Pheobe" Rosalind warned and the brunette turned to glare at her, she wasn't about to leave Teddy to fight his battle outnumbered. "Amby, can you go and fill up my water bottle?" Roz smiled softly and handed her the empty bottle, the brunette girl frowned, not quite understanding why Roz had changed the subject but glad that she had. Taking the bottle eagerly, Ambrosia practically ran away from the group, to the water dispenser in the far corner.
"Ambrosia" her heart dropped and then lept in an unnerving sensation at the sound of her name on his tongue. Turning, she came face to face with Edward Cullen as she screwed the lid on the now-full bottle. "Are you okay?" he wondered, derailing from what he was previously going to say, seeing the panic in her eyes. "I got your note" Edward smiled softly."And I would love someone to talk to." he informed and she couldn't help the giant smile that split across her cheeks at his words. However, she frowned when his smile began to drop, staring at something behind her head.
Spinning around, Ambrosia gasped in shock as she watched Teddy lunged at Max, punching him flat in the face, the tanned boy went flying backwards in shock and the entire room seemed to stand still for a moment until suddenly, a fight broke out between her foster brothers, a ruckus ensuing as people hollered and cheered childishly for their favoured party.
"Ambrosia" his voice was sweet, hand placing softly on her shoulder and she turned to him. She knew she should be having some sort of reaction but she was frozen, staring unblinkingly. The cold of his hand made her jump slightly but she appreciated the cool of it against her warm flesh and as he pulled her to face away from the fight, she was mesmerised by him. "Let's get out of here, okay?" he wondered, Edward's voice was soft, but not patronising and she nodded, uncaring as she abandoned her school bags and allowed him to guide her away, into the parking lot.
"I don't understand what happened," she told him, her voice was hollow, she was in shock and he knew it. For a girl who despised attention, her brothers had just gone and shoved her right in the fray of it.
"It will be fine, I'm sure of it. It was probably just a heat of the moment thing" he tried to soothe.
"They never usually fight" she sighed, "At least not publically" she resigned slightly, knowing that the two always had friction between them and it was only a matter of time before a brawl ensued. Miss Everett would be most unpleased when she had to come to the headmaster's office for two of her boys.
"Oh," Edward remarked as they walked, suddenly pulling something from his bag and she watched him incredulously. "I brought this for you" he smiled gently and handed her a book, her apple-green eyes scanned the cover carefully and widened in awe at it.
"It's a first edition" she informed, shocked, as she looked at 'The Great Gatsby' in her hands. "Are you sure I can borrow it? I promise I will look after it and return it as fast as possible." the book looked brand new.
"Keep it for as long as you need" he smiled softly and her heart melted. Ambrosia held the book to her chest, a brilliant beam occupying her features.
"Thank you, Edward"
Ambrosia Hatton knew that in just a few short conversations, Edward Cullen was changing her. She was opening up to him faster than she ever had to somebody before, she just hoped that he could be trusted to not play with her feelings. It took the girl a long time to be comfortable with someone and it would be terrible to see that
