Ambrosia was thankfully early for her first lesson of the week this week, Trigonometry. She took her previous seat, on the back row and she waited. She was the first to arrive, even Max who had driven to school with her was yet to come to the lesson, she held her floral pattered journal in her hands, three pencils and a ruler laid out in front of her, all sharpened and awaiting use.

Surprisingly, the seat next to her was soon filled and she recognised the strong clean scent that washed over her as he adjusted his position. Edward. His white hands quickly dropped a leather journal on the table beside her own supplies and she noticed the family crest that was bound around his slender wrist as he messed with his pen with his long fingers. She wanted to say something but didn't know what, so she said the first thing that came to her mind.

"Hi" she practically squeaked. Her greeny-blue eyes flickered up to his face and then promptly back down to the supplies on the table, but she had seen his small smile.

"Hey" his voice was gentle, as though he knew that she was nervous. Her heart hammered in her chest, it did this whenever she was speaking to anyone but with him, it was different, faster, her skin heating up by just his presence, hands clammy and slight nausea in her throat. She didn't want to mess up, and she didn't know why it mattered so much to her. "You're early," he remarked softly, he didn't want to startle her, as if she was a frightened creature.

"I try not to make a habit of being late," she remarked, not sure where the sudden confidence had come from but being grateful for it, either way, it made her seem like more of a normal teenager which she knew she wasn't.

"Did you finish your book?" he wondered absentmindedly, attempting to sound casual.

"Not yet, I'll have to find a new one, my old one is looking a bit rough" she sighed, genuinely sad that her copy had fallen to taters before her very eyes.

"Well, I have a copy that you can borrow... If you'd like" Edward responded nonchalantly, flicking through his notebook, trying to ignore the fact that her green eyes pierced into him. He could stare at them all day if only she would let him. Her eyes held so many emotions that she refused to express out loud.

"You wouldn't mind?" Ambrosia inquired awkwardly, she wanted nothing more than to accept, it was a book that she could read on repeat forever and never get bored but she was too shy to outright say it.

"Of course not, I'll bring it tomorrow" he smiled and she couldn't help but return it, looking into his eyes for the first time as she did so. The room was filling slightly as they spoke and Max came bounding through the door with Angela. Ambrosia was hopeful that a relationship would eventually spark between them but she wasn't holding her breath, the two of them were just as incredibly awkward around one another as she was in general.

"Take out for dinner Rosia, Miss E is off at some meeting," the gentle boy remarked as he walked across the room, smirking at her and she nodded back viciously, wanting him to sit down and stop addressing her so publically, where anyone could hear what was being said.

"Your brother?" Edward wondered with genuine curiosity in his voice, the tanned boy now being sat down a few rows ahead. She frowned slightly for she wished that Max was her real brother, she presumed that her orphaned state was common knowledge in Forks High but Edward looked at her with a genuinely confused look. It made her want to smile. that she could tell someone her story for the first time without them having any preconceived expectations behind it.

"Sort of, I call him my foster brother, we are in the same orphanage" she smiled slightly despite the sadness that lingered in her eyes. Edward paused in contemplation.

"You're an orphan?" it had no malicious intent, merely gentle curiosity and she couldn't blame him for that, it was about the only interesting thing about her, she considered.

"Yeah... My parents died a long time ago." her eyes cast downward when she spoke, she wasn't sure why but the intensity of his golden gaze made her stomach do standing backflips.

"Me too" he informed her and she looked up at him. "Though I am fortunate enough to have new parents now, I owe everything to them" Edward smiled, sincerity in his eyes.

"I'm sorry... I'm glad you've found a forever family. I hope to one day have that, but I realise that I'm getting too old to have parents again" she informed, looking down with a sad smile. It was the most words Ambrosia had ever said to someone outside of her foster network but for some bizarre reason, it felt natural to tell Edward how she felt. He understood. Despite this comfortability, Ambrosia looked down shyly, awkward at having shared her emotions. Thankfully for Ambrosia, she didn't have to suffer from her embarrassment for long as Mr Rodriguez chose then to begin the lesson. For the remainder she could feel Edward's eyes flicking to her face and she resisted the urge to meet them, she knew she would suffer more embarrassment if she did, his eyes never failed to intrigue her. Ambrosia had never seen anything like them.

When the lesson ended, Edward quickly vanished along with the crowd and Ambrosia sighed sadly however was shocked to find a folded sheet of notepad paper left where the copper-haired boy had been, her named scrawled across the top. Anxiously taking it within her painted fingers, she read it and her heart fluttered.
