《✔️Ambrosia (Edward Cullen) BOOK ONE》4 - "The Orphanage"

Ambrosia rolled over in her bed, yawning but resigning to staying under the covers. Her green eyes took in her surroundings, vaguely aware of sounds floating up from the floors below. She was on the third floor with the other four teenagers, the house was certainly ginormous but they were used to it, it had been their home for many years. Her room was relatively small, as were most of them, the floor lacked a carpet, showing off the natural wooden flooring. A white fluffy rug splayed in the centre to protect her feet from the cold. Her room was almost entirely taken up by a double bed, the sheets were white with glittery net curtains hanging down around it, many cushions and pillows splayed across it, some now being on the floor. A small white wardrobe stood alone beside a desk and that was all that made up her little room. Their bedrooms were free to be expressed how they pleased, all receiving a budget to do it up.
Rosalind and Pheobe shared the bedroom opposite which was over three times the size of Ambrosia's but she didn't complain, appreciating having her own place to relax without having the anxiety that came to her when around people. It wasn't as if Pheobe spent much time in their bedroom anyway, always sneaking off to Teddy's box bedroom when she thought everyone was sleeping. None-the-less, the big bedroom was their meeting place.
Pulling herself out of bed after a long moment of lying in contemplation, sun streaking in a bar across her face from the crack in the curtain. She proceeded to grab her clothing from the desk chair, she had prepared it the previous day, Ambrosia always appreciated good organisation. The only wall decoration she had was four floating shelves, all occupied by books, courtesy of Teddy and Max's good craftmanship.
Entering the hallway, it became clear once more that they were in fact in an orphanage. The floor was barren, merely sanded wooden floorboards, the textured woodchip wallpaper was splashed with yellow paint in an attempt to brighten up the place and all five doors on the floor were identical, all surrounding the staircase. The floors below all housed the other children, Miss Everett sleeping in her own large room on the ground floor, Of course, the elderly lady had help looking after the many children, but none of the workers were as prominent in their lives as the old woman.

Their bathroom was minimal but they expected nothing more, the entire room was clean and white though lacking a personal touch, feeling more like a public bathroom than anything else. There were two bathrooms on each floor, all expect for theirs which only had one. They didn't mind. Ambrosia was quick to shower and change, ready before any of the others had even awoken.
"Morning A" a smirking Teddy nodded at her as she exited the bathroom, he leant against the bannister wearing nothing but boxers and a smirk. Her eyes widened comically at the sight, cheeks blushing like a raspberry as she slammed a hand over her eyes to protect them from her foster brother's body. "What's the problem? Never seen a man's body before?" he was teasing, she could hear the laughter in the voice as she walked away, keeping her eyes cast down to the floor.
"Don't be such a dick Ted" Rosalind's voice floated through Ambrosia's ears and she walked toward it, quickly entering the room to hide from a still-laughing Teddy. Rosalind and Pheobe's room was decorated randomly, with little planning which irked Ambrosia slightly but it was large and she quickly took up residence on one of the large cushions that were abandoned on their patterned rug.
"What an Ass" Roz scoffed as she slouched back into her bed, she was already dressed which surprised Ambrosia slightly, Roz was usually one of the last to wake up, she liked to have her beauty sleep and especially on a Saturday, you wouldn't expect to see her until at least lunchtime. "You alright Amby? I'm going to head to Ruby Beach for a run, did you want to come?" the shy girl considered it for a long moment before nodding, not speaking as usual. Roz was the easiest for her to get along with, she wasn't pushy or aggressive in the slightest, she was happy to talk and receive nothing back which is what Ambrosia needed. She wasn't much of a talker but she liked to listen.
It wasn't that Ambrosia didn't have anything to say, she just didn't like saying it, she didn't want to see the emotions in peoples eyes when she spoke. The things she truly wanted to talk about were too deep, her parents being her main source of speech.

"Come on then A, your clothes will do" the ginger gestured to the jogging bottoms and hoodie that she brunette was wearing. She had decided to be casual on this day, a Saturday. "I'm having lunch with my nanna at one, do you think you could go to the library or something? Or you could come? I just didn't think you'd want to" Roz babbled, not wanting to hurt her feelings.
"The library is fine Roz, I promise" she smiled softly, nervously. She didn't need to explain things to Rosalind, the ginger girl just knew in advance that her shy friend didn't much like human interaction.
"Right come on then, I have so much to tell you" Rosalind bubbled excitably as they ventured out of the room, the ginger girl was much taller than Ambrosia but for once it didn't intimidate her, Roz was a gentle soul. Ambrosia was Rosalind's best friend, it had been that way since they arrived at the orphanage. Roz had lived with her great Grandmother after her mother died, but the old lady was getting too old to care for a child, and that is why Rosalind joined Ambrosia when they were ten. Up until then, Ambrosia had failed to make any sort of connection with anyone. Roz was the first, Ambrosia felt genuinely comfortable with her and Roz found Ambrosia's silent nature to be sweet, making the brunette her very best advice giver and secret keeper.

Ambrosia ran alongside Rosalind on the beach, neither of them saying anything for the moment as they flicked little pebbles at one another from their footfalls. Naturally, the silence didn't last long, the ginger girl deciding to have a conversation to fill the silence.
"Pheobe stayed in Teddy's room last night" she informed and the brunette rose her eyebrows, the two of them were being much more open about their relationship recently and it was slightly unnerving to see them together, of course, they looked cute together but it was strange seeing two people you had known your whole lives, together, regardless of if they lived together or not. "What's happening with you and Edward Cullen? Honestly?" they slowed to a walk, breathing heavily and Ambrosia took a moment to think.
"There's really nothing" Ambrosia sighed, Max and Roz being the only ones she had serious discussions with. "We've only ever had two conversations, one was because I crashed into him and the other was because we were the only two people in the library."
"You like him though?" the ginger girl always knew the things that Ambrosia neglected to say. The brunettes cheeks flushed warmly. Of course, she thought he was attractive, and Ambrosia was a hopeless romantic, how could she not be when she was a literature lover? Every book she read had romance in some form or another. All she wanted was an old fashion love but Ambrosia had never had a boyfriend, she'd never even been kissed and she doubted that she would attract someone as stunning as Edward.
"It doesn't matter Roz, even if I did. He was just being polite." she sighed, looking at a dog playing fetch with its owner in the distance.
"You know, Ambrosia, Edward Cullen never talks to anyone, not even once, let alone twice. You are lucky to have ever even heard him speak. Don't put yourself down okay? Anybody would be the luckiest man on earth to have you" the ginger smiled happily and Ambrosia smiled, she wanted to protest against it but was too shy to openly tell people her feelings like that. She knew within herself that she wasn't deserving of someone like Edward...
