《The Whipping》Chapter 4

I lay in my bed, trying not to move in order to keep the bandages on my back intact. Ellie had disinfected them and wrapped them up, saying that they should be healed in a number of days, but I knew they were going to leave dramatic scars, and I wasn't happy about it.

I rested my head in my hands, sighing deeply. My parents hadn't spoken to me. They hadn't even come into my room. I had heard them downstairs; yelling at each other, but I couldn't quite hear what they were saying. I was guessing I didn't want to though. I hadn't heard them for a few hours, so I assumed they had left to go somewhere, probably to talk to James.

I peered out of the window, focusing on how bright the moon was, causing my room to almost glow as if it were filled with a thousand glow worms. It had been exactly seventeen hours since Logan had left. I knew deep inside I was yearning for him, but my head was telling me other things. I knew what he did was wrong, and I needed an explanation. I wouldn't be satisfied with any less.

I pushed my chestnut coloured hair behind my ears, wanting to put it up into a ponytail, but knowing that moving to get something to tie it up with would be too painful.

Suddenly, my head shot up from the noise of my door being pushed open and my chocolate brown were met with glowing hazel ones. I stayed completely still, my body almost frozen in time.

As the host of the eyes moved closer and closer to me, I let out a disappointing sigh, not wanting to look into those glowing orbs any longer. They seemed to mesmerise me; reel me in as if I was his prey.

"Logan, what are you doing here?" I asked, pushing more of my hair back behind my ears, flicking it away.

Logan studied me, his gaze drifting down my body before coming up again, finally settling on what he could see of the bandages underneath my pyjama top. His eyes changed from hazel to a smokey grey before he closed them, breathing deeply, and re-opening them; only for them to appear their normal colour again. He reached over to my dresser, grabbing something and then passing it to me, keeping our fingertips from touching. "Here."

I looked down in my hand to see one of my hair ties.

Logan smiled sadly. "It looked as if it were bothering you."

I nodded as a 'thank you' as I craned my neck, bringing all of my hair onto the top of my head and securing it with the hair tie. "Are you going to answer me? I asked you what you were doing here?"

"Eliza, I told you I would come back for you."

I shook my head, furrowing my brows. "How did you get in?"

"James allowed me to enter your territory and your door was unlocked; your parents aren't home."

"They aren't too happy Logan."

Logan's mouth was set in a firm line as he looked down, as if embarrassed. "I'm not too happy with myself, Eliza."

The way my name rolled off his tongue sent shivers throughout my body, but I pushed the feelings back. "Why? Just tell me why Logan. That tradition is old. It's disgusting and you know how packs feel about it. Why bring it back? For what? For power? For control? You know no pack can refuse to participate. That's why it was forgotten long ago. Why be the bad guy?"

Logan balled up his fists, gritting his teeth. "Because I am the bad guy, Eliza."

I rolled my eyes, not liking the pathetic excuse. "No! I want a real answer. Why? Why couldn't you just find a Luna like everybody else? Or just wait for your mate?!"

"I've been waiting Eliza! I'm twenty five years old and un-mated. I need an heir before it's too late. I can't be running the pack during old age when I'm weaker; I need someone to take over for me so the pack stays strong. It's how packs work!"

"No, Logan, it's how you work," I snarled, shaking my head.

"You have to understand, I was doing this for the future of my pack."

Logan's body was shaking and I could tell he was wanting to shift, but was restraining himself.

"What would have happened if you had mated with someone else and then found me!?" I yelled.

"Of course I would have left her!"

"No, because I wouldn't want someone who would mate with someone else. I wouldn't want you."

Logan grunted angrily, obviously not liking my choice of wording. "I didn't choose anyone else though did I? And you can talk, saying you wouldn't want me if I had mated with someone else, but you volunteered for The Whipping Eliza! You didn't know if I was your mate or not but you were willing to become a Luna of a pack you'd never met!"

My eyes went wide, my mouth dropping open. "You really don't get it do you? Logan, I didn't volunteer. Nobody from my pack did, so I was chosen at random by your Beta. I was forced to do this; against my own will!"

Logan stared at me, squinting his eyes trying to comprehend what I had just said. I could feel the anger radiating off of him, and he stepped back, breathing heavily. Suddenly, he swung his fist and landed a punch at the wall, causing a large hole to appear. "I'm gonna kill him."

I shook my head, defeated. "Why Logan? Why kill him for something you did; for something you decided? You knew the rules. You knew what happened if nobody volunteered, and now just because I turned out to be your mate it's someone else's fault?"

"I-"

"No, Logan," I cut him off, "You did this to yourself, you did this to me, and you did this to us."

Question for my readers! What country are you from?

I felt like this was a good place to leave this chapter. I hope you all enjoy. I know it's short, but the chapters will be getting longer.
