《Cupid's Arrow ✔》Chapter 22

"No, I don't want that." I stomped my feet on the ground and glared at Chase.
"But I like it," he whined. Frankly, we were behaving like children. "It's vanilla."
"I like chocolate." I took the chocolate tub from the aisle.
"Keep that. I'll take the vanilla one," he shrugged, like we weren't even fighting.
"Chase, this is for my house and I don't like vanilla," I shouted in frustration.
"But I like it," he whined, again.
Oh god! If I knew he won't let me shop in peace I wouldn't have asked him to accompany me. So, by now you must have already guessed that we were in Walmart to purchase some errands. We had already wasted so much in the food fight that nothing was left.
"Chase, please." I gave him my best puppy dog face. I could see the battle in his eyes. Please God! I know it affects everyone around me, so please let him too.
I batted my eyes at him for more effects and pouted more. He sighed in defeat. "Fine. This is so unfair."
"Thank you, Chase. You're so cute," I beamed at him and pinched his cheeks. He swatted my hands and scoffed at me. I grinned at him and took the chocolate tub and put it in the cart.
We took the cart for billing. There stood a cute guy around my age, maybe younger.
"Hi," I said to him.
He looked at me and blushed. "H-Hi," I stuttered. How cute.
I beamed at him and took the items from the cart. "Can you.." I trailed and pointed at the items.
"Of course," he smiled at me, still blushing. Suddenly, I felt a hand go around my waist and I was pulled into a hard, yet warm chest. I looked down at the hand and at the person who owns it. Chase.
Chase was glaring at the poor boy who was blushing furiously. Is someone jealous? I smirked at myself and felt my cheeks start to warm. The guy looked up and saw Chase glaring at him. He looked away and gave the total amount. I took out my wallet and gave him the money. As I gave him the money, our hands brushed against each other. He looked away, blushing. I giggled to myself. That's when I felt Chase grip my waist tightly.
Once we were done, Chase took the bag from my hand and placed it in the backseat. He opened his door and started to drive. The ride was silence. He didn't say a word, but I saw him clenching and unclenching his fist. His jaws ticked, angrily.
"Is there a problem, Chase?" I teased him. He only glared at me and continued driving, not uttering a word. It's funny to watch him all worked up.
We reached our house to see cars already parked out. Must be our friends.
Chase opened his side of door and got down without saying a word and slammed the door shut. Okay, now it's annoying. I ran out of the car and grabbed his arm and turned him towards me.
"What's your problem?" I asked, clearly annoyed.
"My problem?" He asked and pointed at himself.
"Yes, your problem. Why are you behaving so strange? It's annoying," I said, glaring at him.
He snorted. "Really? It's annoying, now."
"Really, Chase," I asked and ran my hands through my hair.
"Fine. It seems like you were having fun with your boy-toy," he said, angrily. The way he said boy-toy didn't sit well with me.

"I don't know what you're talking about?" I asked, confuse.
"The guy at the check line, remember?" He snapped his fingers in front of my eyes as to make a point. Oh! Now, I understood what's going on. But I thought that he was kidding around. Was he really jealous? Seeing my face, he must have got the idea that I remember what he is talking about. "Yeah. That guy."
"Listen Chase, It didn't mean anything. It was cute, the way he was blushing. It might be okay or normal for you because girls are mad behind you. You're hot. You're everything a girl wants, okay? But me? I'm not as hot or good-looking as you. It's rare for me to see a guy blush. So don't you dare think that everything's about you or what you want. You don't have the right to be angry," I snapped at him.
With a last glare, I turned around and went inside. I met the others. I guess Ashley must have opened the door with her spare key. Yeah, she has one of my house keys, but rarely uses it. I didn't wait for any of them to say anything and went upstairs to my room. I'm angry.
I cooled down a bit and went downstairs. We watched a movie, played video games that Laura brought, ate pizzas and some homemade food from Chase's mom, Stacey. In short, we had lots of fun. I ignored Chase the entire time. I didn't even spare him glance, but I could feel his eyes on me most of the time. It was late so everyone went home. Mom and Dad were going to come in the morning, so Chase went back to his house with the others. What I expected and what happened. Can't Chase and I have a normal conversation for more than a day? Do we always have to fight? I don't like it. I don't want it.
**
The next morning was like usual, only this time I greeted my parents early morning. It's not usual for me to wake up early. I love my bed and pillow.
After greeting them, I called Ashley and asked her to pick me up. The day was boring until it was time for lunch. I made my way towards the lunchroom. I took my lunch and went to our table. All of them were already there.
"Hey, what took you so long?" Ashley asked.
"Miss Ford wanted to talk to me," I replied with a shrug. She nodded her head and continued making out of Jason.
I noticed Chase glancing at me every minute since the time I entered the lunchroom. I still don't want to talk to him. I was chatting with Laura when I felt something cold white substance dripping on my face. I blinked, twice.
I heard a lot of gasps and the entire lunchroom went silent. I looked to see Megan smiling sweetly at me. Of course it has to be that witch. I took a deep breath and closed my eyes. I could feel eyes on me. I don't like attention, damn it. I opened my eyes and stood up in front of Megan who was now glaring at me.
"What was that for?" I asked through my clenched jaws.
She smiled sweetly at me. "For taking what's mine."
"Really? What is that?"
She looked at Chase and back to me. "Chase."
Again, I heard a lot of gasp. I rolled my eyes. Can't they for once mind their own business? I don't want to hear all the dramatic gasp and 'ohhs' and all that.

"Chase? Interesting. You can take him. I don't mind. But I never knew someone like you could be so desperate and jealous. I should be honored that you're jealous of me, shouldn't I?" I asked and smirked at her.
"Shut up, bitch. I'm not jealous of you," she snapped.
"Oh! So you're desperate." I said, more like a statement. This is funny.
"Uh, what? No. Of course not," she stuttered. Bulls eyes. I cocked my head and raised an eyebrow at her, challengingly. "You bitch." She took noodles from her minion's plate and threw it at me.
I quickly ducked and the noodles went flying towards Ashley. Uh oh. She squeals and stands up, glaring at Megan. Megan stood there eyes wide. She really worships Ashley and now...
"What the hell?" Ashley shouted. I looked at her and gave her an apologetic smile. It was for me after all. She looked at me and winked. I blinked. Did she wink at me? Wait..she is doing this on purpose. Damn, I really love my best friend.
"S-Sorry. I didn't mean to throw it at you," Megan said and rushed towards her side. Ashley glared at her and took the soda can from Alec's tray and dumped it on her. The whole crowd started laughing.
Within a minute, someone shouted "Food fight" and the whole cafe was throwing food at each other. I really didn't want to experience it again, so I manage to get out of there. I already had milk in my hair, again.
"Want me to help?" I heard a voice behind me. I whirled around and saw Chase standing there, hands in his pocket. He was clean so I guess he, too, didn't want to get in the middle of food fight again.
I shook my head. "No." I turned and went inside the girl's washroom. Chase followed. "What the hell are you doing? You can't come in. Unless you're a girl disguise in a boy."
"Man." He said firmly.
"Whatever," I mimicked him. "So go."
"No. I'm not. I want to help you. It was my fault she did what she did. And I want to talk about yesterday," he said, uncomfortable.
"There's nothing to talk." I turned around and face the mirror. How am I supposed to get the milk out of my hair?
"Just listen. Anyway, before that, just bend your head forward and take all your hair in front of the tap. Just wash it with water for now. Go home take a shower. If you want I have a spare shirt with me." He offered. I looked at him through the mirror and saw that he was sincerely offering. I nodded my head and didn't say anything.
I did what he told me while he went to his locker and brought his t-shirt. Once I was done with my hair and took his t-shirt, I send him out, so I could change. I changed into his black t-shirt which was bigger than me. It was like my over sized t-shirt which I wear at night. It was comfortable and smells like him.
I exited the washroom and saw Chase leaning at the wall beside the door. As soon as he saw me, he straightened up and offered a small smile.
"Can we talk?" He asked, hopefully.
"Sure."
He took my hand and led us to the garden behind the school. He let go of my hand and I miss the warm of it, but that's not important now. He turned to me and his whole face was apologetic and determine.
"Chloe, I first want to say sorry for behaving like an ass to you," he began.
"You sure were an ass," I said. He glared at me for interrupting. I smiled sheepishly.
"I agree. That's why I'm sorry. But you should know that you are beautiful. You must be crazy to think that you're not. You are good looking, you are hot. Any girl would die to have a body like yours. Even Megan is jealous of you. You don't need a guy to blush or tell you that you're beautiful. You shouldn't even listen to me. But I know you care what people say about you. Don't. Be yourself. I want that Chloe back, the one I met in New York. I know you have secrets. I won't force you to tell me. Tell me when you're ready. If not, don't tell me. I respect you, okay. You are Chloe Wilson. The most beautiful girl I have ever met," he said, softly. I could hear the sincerity in his voice. He meant what he said. His eyes display everything he said. He truly believes it and wants me to believe it to. He came closer and cupped my face in both his hands. "Trust me."
All I did was hug him. I hugged him tightly as my life depends on it. He hugged me back with equal force. I buried my head in his neck and took a deep breath. He smelled like vanilla. I think I love vanilla now.
One thing I know now is that, I fell for him, really bad.
**
"It was awesome. I really wanted someone to start food fight for so long. Finally!" Ryan exclaimed loudly.
So basically, after Chase and I exited the cafe, there was a huge food fight. The principle came and shouted for everyone to stop. He asked for the culprit who started and everybody blamed it on Megan. I feel bad for her, but she did start it. All I heard was that she has to clean the entire lunchroom along with going to detention.
Alec, Ryan, Jason, Leah, Laura and Ashley were soaked in soda, water and food. They smell bad, worst than me and Chase's food fight.
"I know, right," Alec said and shouted whoo. Are they 6? Never mind.
"So basically, Megan asked her minion's to clean for her?" I asked Ashley.
"Yup," she answered and tried to take the noodles and salad off her hair.
"Come on, guys. I'll help you clean," I offered.
"Yeah me too," Chase said.
"You're going to help us," Leah asked.
"Not you, you idiot. Them," he pointed to Alec, Ryan and Jason.
"Of course," Leah chuckled and went inside the washroom, not before giving Alec a meaningful glance. Something happened between them. She looked at Alec for longer than necessary.
I stood near Chase and whispered, "Is it just me or something happened while we were not there?"
"I think something happened," he whispered and looked at our friends who were looking at each other.
I looked at him and nodded. "We have to find out." He agreed.
"Chloe, are you coming?" Ashley asked as she pecked Jason.
"Coming," I smiled at Jason and Chase and followed Ashley inside.
After they were cleaned up. We went to class and the day went on. At the end of the day, Chase offered me a ride home, so I went with him. He parked the car in front of my house.
"Thanks," I said and smiled at him.
He smirked. "What, no thank you kisses?" I rolled my eyes at him. Idiot.
I waved at him and entered my house. I closed the door behind me, so I was facing the door.
"Chloe?" Said the voice I have been dying to listen to. He came. He's back. I turned around and had the biggest smile on my face.

Updates once a week whenever I have time. Cross-posted on Wattpad and Scribble Hub. The CBMokedi cover will return! Excerpt: She looked down at him again. Young. Healthy, from what she could see, except for the wound that was killing him. He was handsome in a way that suggested a life of wealth and plenty. She did not think he had ever starved. Someone important. Her shadow fell across him, and he frowned. Blearily, he opened his eyes. They were amber and bright, even as he lay dying in the dirt. She could feel his soul, blazing inside of him like a fire refusing to die even as his body began to fail. He met her gaze, eyes widening in what she guessed was surprise—or shock. But he never looked away, staring up at her as though transfixed. Ba’an made her decision. She raised her hand and covered his eyes. In another moment, a murder of crows cawed as they took wing. The man and woman were gone from the road, leaving only the dead staring up into the sky. Note: This is a high-fantasy set in a low-magic world. The first book is largely character-driven and we really only hit the real plot in Book II, so if you're not fond of long epic yarns you ought to skip this one. I also don't include trigger warnings, but mind the "traumatizing content" tag--all societies minus one practice slavery and the world is indeed, rather grim!
