"What do we have in there that you had to call me at 3 am for?" Hyejin asked the rest of the officers. The chief sighed.
"Your biggest fan showed up again. Assault and Battery charge." He explained, handing her the file. She scoffed.
"He harassed a security guard?" She mumbled. He shrugged.
"Yep. He won't talk to any of us so I brought you in. That's what you get for being the youngest person on a task force." He mumbled, shoving her into the interrogation room. She looked down at the file and then up at the boy who wore a big grin on his face.
"Hmm, my favorite detective. You know you should wear purple more often, it's a good color on you." He mumbled. She scoffed, sitting down in the chair across from him.
"It was dirty blonde last time. Now it's pink. I'm surprised your hair hasn't fallen off yet. " She teased, folding her arms. he sighed, stretching his arms.
"Yeah well, it's actually a peachy color. And I was getting tired of the color. I'm thinking of blonde next with like blue bangs." He said, causing her to laugh.
"Ok cut the crap. Why are you here?" She asked. He shrugged, lifting his hands from under the table to show the handcuffs.
"I mean isn't it obvious?" He asked. She rolled her eyes.
"No, I mean why are you here? Why are you still here? After years of bailing you out, advocating for you when I could be helping other people, why haven't you stopped? Why haven't you changed?" Hyejin asked. He sighed.
"I remember your graduation day. It's funny cuz it was four years before mine... and I'm older than you." He said. She scoffed.
"Why is this relevant?" She asked. He chuckled.
"You were the only 12-year-old who graduated. I mean your a genius." He praised. Hyejin bit her lip, trying to hide her smile.
"I still remember your first day of intern year. You were 16, I was 18. It feels like it was decades ago." He sighed. She closed his file.
"That was 2 years ago. And that was the first time I saw you since high school. But instead of our uniform, you were in handcuffs and an orange jumpsuit. Funny how life works out." She said. He rolled his eyes.
"I've been through the crap, you don't get to judge me on that," he said. She shook her head.
"Jaemin I know that. I know how hard life has been for you. But people go through things. And it's hard and can change your life." She explained. He glared at his shoes.
"I know how hard it's been for you since your mom died. I know how hard it is. But how you deal with it after is what makes it count. You can still change. You're not 21 yet. You can turn your life around and I am begging you that you do. Because once August 13 comes, I can no longer help you." She explained. He raised an eyebrow.
"Who said I want your help?" He retorted. She smirked, leaning back in the chair.
"I made a promise to you when we were kids. But as kids, we don't know anything. So I can withdraw my promise. I can leave you right now, they send you to someone who won't fight for you. You might have to go to trial and lose. Then on the day of your 21 birthday, you're done. I'm no longer responsible for you. So I can walk away right now if you want." She said. Jaemin didn't respond, playing with the chain on the handcuffs.

"That's what I thought" She mumbled, snatching the file and opening it.
"It looks minor. They'll let you off with a three-day service." She explained. He smirked.
"What can I do to repay you? I mean you woke up so late in the night, put on a very sexy, tight skirt on, just for me." He growled, biting his lip. She felt a blush rise on her cheeks. She stood up, glaring at him.
"You know, the one thing you can do to help me is to stop putting yourself in this situation. Just... just start over. Be better." She encouraged. He rolled his eyes.
"You give that speech all the time. And every time you give the speech, I stop paying attention because I can't take my eyes off of your beautiful face," he said. She laughed.
"You know, behind your great smile and warm eyes and your sweet talk, you are rude and arrogant and selfish." She mumbled, walking away.
"So you think I have warm eyes, Hyejin?" He mumbled. She felt the blush growing on her cheeks again. Thank god her back was turned against him. She tried so hard to hide her smile.
"You're free to go Jaemin. Just don't do anything stupid." She mumbled, closing the door behind her. She walked into the hallway.
"He flirts with you... and you let him. I don't like that, Park." he mumbled. She sighed.
"he knows me, we use to be friends. I've just gotten used to it at this point. You should know that." She explained. He shook his head.
"He's dangerous. And he could hurt you. I don't want to see you falling with the wrong crowd." He explained. She nodded.
"Yes sir." She mumbled before walking to her office, sitting on her desk.
"Na Jaemin really has done a number on you." A voice said. Hyejin chuckled, looking up at her friend.
"I've known him since we were kids, Lyla. I can't just... leave him In jail. he is just so smart... he could be so much, he just refuses to move on from his parent's death." She explained. Lyla nodded.
"Are you sure you're not like... secritly in love with him?" Lyla asked. Hyejin rolled her eyes.
"If you haven't noticed, I'm not into guys with petty thefts on their criminal records." She joked. Lyla laughed.
"So like in another universe if he were like a Kpop idol in a band with 6 other guys, and he was adored by his fans and he adored his fans... would you?" Lyla asked. Hyejin scoffed.
"You sound stupid" Hyejin mumbled, yawning.
"I have to go home. I don't have work till Monday night. I need to sleep." Hyejin mumbled, wiping her eyes. Lyla laughed.
"Yeah well... you are a baby you need a nap." They mumbled. Hyejin looked up at them.
"You do know that you are only four years older than me?" Hyejin explained, standing up. Lyla nodded.
"Yeah yeah, whatever. Hey, can I borrow your key card? I left mine at home and I have to go over to the office to submit paperwork. " They said. Hyejin nodded, grabbing her card and handing it to them.
"be careful out there. You know that the guy we're looking for is out there at night. He's killed four security guards... we don't know what's gonna happen next." She explained. Lyla nodded.
"Yes, mother!" They mocked, walking out.
~~~
Hyejin walked down the street, her hand placed, in her pocket, where her gun was held. She slowly grabbed a hold of it when she heard footsteps behind her.
"You know you shouldn't be walking alone at this time of night. I hear you all are looking for a killer" A deep voice said. She jumped, turning around.
"God, Jaemin. You scared the shit out of me." She gasped. He smiled.
"Sorry. Well, I um... I'm going home myself." He explained. She scoffed.
"Why did you get into a fight with that security guard anyway? I m-mean what did you need from the office anyway?" She asked. He shook his head.
"I was doing you a favor." He mumbled. She scoffed.
"What do you mean 'doing me a favor?' how is knocking out an old man who's just doing his job helping me out?" She asked. He sighed.
"I ran a scan across cards accessed to get into the office, seeing that's how your bad guy is accessing police records, I thought I could figure out how he got in." He said. Hyejin widened her eyes.
"H-how did you even get in? The FBI has strong security. Especially our cybersecurity." She explained.
"S-so? You know I'm good with computers. Plus I stole one of the computers in your office." He explained. She scoffed.
"Jaemin, it is insane that I am trying so hard to help you yet you aren't letting me" She explained. He shook his head.
"Hyejin, you and I both know that I helped you! Look, your men are dying... and I'm trying to help you," he said.
"I never asked for your help!" She yelled at him.
"The same way I never asked you to help me! You keep insisting to help me! Why? You in love with me or something?" He joked. She scoffed, at a loss for words.
"You don't get to call me Hyejin. It's Agent Park to you!" She mumbled, walking away.
"He accessed one of the key cards!" Jaemin yelled. She stopped, turning around to look at him.
"What?"
"He accessed one of the detectives key cards. I'm not sure who's but-"
"Jaemin. I appreciate the offer, but I need you to back off on this." She explained. He shook his head.
"Hyejin I knocked a security guard unconscious so that I could get you this information. Look, if you end up dead I'll blame myself. I care about you too much to see you die like the rest." He explained. Hyejin furrowed her eyebrows.
"You care about me? Why?" She asked. He stopped, stuttering a bit.
"Wh- Look I'm just saying. You've helped me a lot, it's impossible for me not to think about your well being." He explained. She scoffed.
"Yeah right. Look Jaemin if you really care about me, then you would leave it alone. Please I am begging you. I can't have you getting killed either. I would blame myself too." She explained. He smiled.
"Admit it Hyejin, you love me" He explained. She scoffed, turning around.
"It's Agent Park" She corrected, walking into her car.
~~~
"And you think he's right?" Lyla asked her. Hyejin shrugged.
"I don't know... l-look all I know is that he sounded sincere." She mumbled. Lyla scoffed.
"You are a detective... and your best evidence is that he sounded sincere?" They asked. Hyejin shrugged.
"Look I don't know I-" She was about to answer when their captain walked over to them.
"Agent Choi, Park. We're having an emergency meeting." He said. The two exchanged confused looks before following him into the main room, joining the other agents.
"We have had an issue. The guy we are trying to catch is partnering with some of our agents out here." He said. Hyejin furrowed her eyebrows.
"So we have a mole?" She asked. He sighed.
"I suppose. We got an agent on the computer who found out that they broke in using a key card. one of our key cards." He explained. Hyejin brought her head up, listening.
"Did you say one of our key cards?" She asked. He nodded. Lyla elbowed her.
"Your serial killer boyfriend was right!" They whispered. Hyejin scoffed.
"He's not a serial killer and he's not my boyfriend." She explained. Lyla shrugged.
"But he was right. One step ahead of us. Doesn't that scare you?" They asked. Hyejin looked up at her.
"No, it doesn't scare me. It brings me hope."
~~~
Hyejin sat in a bar staring at her cup. She was so deep in thought she didn't notice someone sitting down next to her.
"Don't you think you're too young to be drinking? Aren't you like...14?" He asked. She rolled her eyes.
"Jaemin you and I both know that I'm an 18-year-old adult." She mumbled, chugging down the shot. He widened his eyes.
"Damn... don't have to tell me twice." He mumbled.
"I'll have a scotch... get her a beer," Jaemin told the bartender. She looked up at him.
"I'm proud of you. It's been a week and you haven't committed a crime... you know, except for hacking into our FBI data and figuring out that an agent's key card was used." She mumbled. He nodded.
"Have you ever thought of coming to work for the FBI?" She asked, earning a loud laugh from him.
"You really think they're gonna let me into the FBI? I have no experience with criminal activity... except for the fact that I am a criminal." He explained. She scoffed.
"It would be a fresh start." She said. He sighed.
"Yeah I'll just probably end up in jail or something... you can forget about me. Go marry some other guy who also fights crime... and you could have a bunch of crime-fighting babies," he mumbled, taking a sip of scotch. She looked up at him.
"D-do you want kids?" She asked. He scoffed.
"What?"
"Do you want kids?" She repeated. He sighed.
"I do... I mean I did but I'm not gonna be a good father so there isn't a point, you know?" He said. She chuckled.
"You are throwing away your life. You are throwing away an opportunity to be someone better... and I hate that. I should just quit while I'm ahead. B-but for some reason I keep coming to help you." She mumbled. He scoffed.
"And why is that?" He asked. She shrugged, hugging her bottle of beer.
"I ask myself the same question every day." She mumbled. He laughed.
"Maybe we're soulmates" He joked. She looked up at him.
"You know what. You're annoying. I'm gonna go um... flirt with guys." She mumbled. He scoffed.
"What am I not manly enough? Nice enough?" He asked. She shook her head.
"You're just not my type." She explained. He sighed.
"Then who is your type?" He asked. She stood up from her seat.
"Guys who don't commit crimes every other day" She teased.
"Look, you are drunk and wearing a very revealing outfit. And guys out here are horny and don't give a shit. Are you sure you really want to go out there?" He asked. She scoffed.
"I am a police officer. My gun is in my bag next to a pair of handcuffs, I think I'll be fine." She explained, walking into the crowd. She saw a tall man, alone in the corner. She slowly made her way to him.
"I saw you from over there... you feel like having some company?" She asked, blinking aggressively in a flirtatious way. He smiled at her.
"Of course, pretty lady." He mumbled, pulling her over to sit next to him.
"You seem like the quiet type... don't see you here with any friends." He mumbled, eyeing her up and down.
"Well, I usually just come here by myself. Don't really have many friends." She explained. He nodded. From a distance, Jaemin watched with a disturbed look on his face.
"You ok?" The bartender asked. Jaemin turned to face him, handing him his cup.
"Not really. Another one, please."
~~~
"You're kidding!" Hyejin laughed, punching him softly.
"No, I am serious! I have listened to every one of their songs but I have no idea how they look." He yelled. She laughed.
"How! They are the most beautiful people in this world. When God created Twice, he certainly knew what he was doing." She explained. He nodded.
"I could say the same thing about you." He said, his hand that had made it's way to her lap, slowly drawing circles on her thigh. She chuckled.
"Why don't we take this somewhere else?" He asked. Hyejin, who has had enough alcohol by now and could barely fight back.
"U-uh what d-do you mean?" She asked. He leaned in, bringing his hands to grab her wrists.
"You know exactly what I mean." He whispered. She tried pulling him off.
"H-hey I should let you know t-that I'm a cop." She mumbled, pushing him off but he just continued.
"Stop it..." He began pulling off her shirt.
"Someone help me!" She screamed, but he covered her mouth, using his other hand to strangle her.
"I'm doing this for them! They want to see you dead" He growled. Hyejin furrowed her eyebrows. Who was them?
"Get off of her!" Jaemin yelled, pulling him off of Hyejin. He pushed him to the ground, throwing punches at him.
"Jaemin! Jaemin get off of him!" She yelled, pulling him off.
"Hyejin why'd you do that?! He got away! He hurt you and you let him get away!"
~~~
Hyejin and Jaemin sat in the suspect room with Hyjin's chief detective and Agent Lyla.
"So you are meaning to tell me that he was assaulting you... and you told Jaemin to get off of him." He asked. Jaemin glared at her.
"Jaemin would just end up in jail again for getting into a fight... And I couldn't have that happening." She explained. He scoffed.
"Jaemin saved you! Why would we lock him up for that?" he asked. Areum looked up at him.
"Because our technical analyst didn't find that information about the stolen key card. Jaemin did and tipped him off." She explained. Jaemin looked at her and then up at the chief.
"what? Is that true?" he asked. Jaemin put his head down.
"Yes sir. I'm afraid so." He mumbled.
"W-what else have you figured out?" he asked. Jaemin looked up.
"What are you talking about? Why do you need to know this just lock him up already!" Lyla argued. Hyejin glared at her.
"Lyla stop!"
"I'm just saying how can we trust that he didn't-"
"That's enough, Agent. Now leave the room" The chief said. Lyla sighed, trudging out of the room.
" Y-your not gonna arrest me?" He asked. The chief looked at Hyejin.
"If you stay out of trouble and do what you keep doing with that computer you stole... you could find yourself in a job right here..." He said. Jaemin looked down at the ground, trying to hide his smile.
~~~
"That was amazing! I totally thought you were dead!" Hyejin giggled. Jaemin smiled.
"He said that I could find a job here. No one has believed in me like that.... well besides you" He blabbered. Hyejin smiled.
"Jaemin I told you! I told you that you are a good person. And you just need to change your mindset" She explained. Jaemin nodded, glaring at her.
"This is why I fight for you... this is why I care about you" She repeated. He chuckled.
"What, it's not because you find me attractive?" He asked. She bit her lip, glaring at him.
"Oh please Jaemin." She rolled her eyes. He scoffed.
"What? You think I flirt every day with you because it's fun?" he asked, causing her to shrug.
"Isn't that why you do it?" She asked. He scoffed.
"I do it cuz I'm attracted to you." He said. She let out a soft snort, shaking her head.
"No. You can't... how could anyone be attracted to me?" She mumbled. He laughed.
"You are a badass Detective who can handle a gun. You have this whole 'just cuz I'm a female doesn't mean I can't be a great cop' thing. And it's sexy. Sexy as hell. So is your brain. You've got a very sexy brain. Like you know your shit. And it's hot. And you have the sweetest dimples I've ever seen. Like you don't even have to smile. When you chew your dimples pop up and it's adorable. And if that doesn't convince you enough then you have a beautiful spirit. You light up a room as soon as you walk in. And you don't give up on anything or anyone." he said. She smiled, a blush appearing on her cheeks.
"I uh... I didn't know you thought of me that way. No one has ever thought of me that way." She said.
"Well then you haven't met the right guy" He whispered. He brought his hand to her chin, pulling her closer, connecting their lips.
As surprised as she was, she still didn't want to pull away. She brought her hands to his hair, tugging it softly. Jaemin pulled her onto his lap, laying his hands on her hips. She sighed, bitting her lip.
