《The Snake In My Dreams》Ch. 32

Remus woke up with a briefcase in his hands. He opened it, finding a bomb inside.

He stared blankly at it, not alarmed in the slightest.

"Agent Sanders, are you in position?" A voice asked through the earpiece he didn't know he was wearing.

"Yes, sir." He automatically replied.

Ugh, dialogue.

"The bomb needs to be planted in the bathroom on the 3rd floor." The voice (that sounded suspiciously like Virgil) continued.

"You think I forgot?" He heard himself scoff. He closed the briefcase."I'm the top spy in the country, it's kind of my job to remember."

"Is that a bit of sass I'm detecting?" Virgil asked. "Didn't think you were the type to gain an ego."

"It's only natural when you're as amazing as I am." Remus mentally rolled his eyes. He was starting to sound like his brother.

"Go do your job, agent." Virgil snorted.

"Roger that."

Remus walked into the building that was in front of him.

"Hello, welcome to S&S Corporations, have you booked an appointment?" The secretary (who was Patton) asked.

"The bosses like the filet, yeah?" He asked. Remus internally cackled, not sure why he said that.

"With a glass of wine, and a few veggies to boot." Patton responded, smirking at him. He leaned foward. "I've asked the janitors to close off the third floor bathroom, you should have no problem getting in there."

"Thank you."

"Don't fuck this up, Sanders."

Remus walked into the nearby elevator.

He didn't know why they were trying to blow this building up, but that didn't really seem to be that important.

He reached the third floor, walking out.

Unsurprisingly, there was indeed a sign in front of the bathroom. He looked around, making sure no one would spot him.

He didn't really care if they did, but whatever.

Remus walked in. He kneeled down to place the bomb under the sink.

"Well, well, well. If it isn't Agent Sanders."

Remus' head shot up.

There, poking his head through a vent in the ceiling, was a man in a mask.

"Rhesymeg." He heard himself growl. Rhesymeg, huh? Why did his dream feel the need to give Janus a nickname this time? Maybe to fit the spy theme.

"It's been too long, hasn't it? I'm happy to see you've remembered who I am." Rhesymeg jumped down from the vent, right in front of Remus. "I'm taking the bomb."

"Over my dead body."

"How does heavily concussed sound?" Rhesymeg tilted his head.

"I'll kill you if I have to."

"No, you like me too much."

"Wanna bet on it?"

"Sure, loser has to strip down naked."

"That's just an excuse to see me naked."

"You say that like you know you'll lose."

"Don't be cheeky."

"Oh, you'd love that. Naughty boy."

Remus was kind of impressed with Janus' banter. I mean, this all came from his own brain, but still.

"This bomb is property of the government. You'll have to answer to them if you...take..." Remus had put his hands up to fight, but found he was in handcuffs that were connected to the pipes.

Rhesymeg dangled a key in front of Remus' face. "You really aren't on your game today, huh?"

Remus went to snatch the key, but Rhesymeg pulled it away.

"Oh, no, no, no! Don't be a bad boy, Agent Sanders." Rhesymeg placed the key on the ground, just barely out of Remus' reach. "I'll be taking this!" Rhesymeg grabbed the bomb from the floor.

He jumped back into the vent.

A few moments later, his head suddenly stuck out again. "Tell the agency I send my regards."

The dream faded away, and Remus rubbed his wrists.

---

Remus took a deep breath, knocking on Janus' door.

Janus opened it.

"Hey."

"What do you want?"

Remus pursed his lips. "I wanted to...apologize."

Janus rose a brow, waiting for him to continue.

"I-I did some self-reflection, and I realized that," Remus swallowed, fiddling with his hands. "What I did was horrible. And I wanted to say I was sorry."

Janus was silent for a few moments.

"Babe, who's at the door?"

Remus looked behind Janus, and found Roman sitting on Janus' bed.

"Oh, hello, Ree!" Roman chirped, waving at him. "I'm really sorry things didn't work out."

"It's...fine." Remus mumbled, giving Janus a confused glance.

"Ro, can Remus and I discuss something for a bit?" Janus asked him.

"Sure!" Roman smiled.

Janus stepped fully outside, closing the door behind him.

"Does he not--?"

"I didn't tell him about that night." Janus said.

Remus frowned. "Why not?"

"I'm not sure if it was for my sake, or yours." Janus crossed his arms. "Either way, you should feel thankful."

"Thank you." Remus sighed. "Do you...do you think you could ever forgive me?"

Janus sighed, glaring at Remus. "No, I don't."

Remus' eyes widened, and he looked down at the floor.

"I don't think we should associate with each other anymore, Remus." Janus told him. "I'll let you hang out with Roman all you want, but we're not friends anymore."

"I...I understand." Remus mumbled. "For what it's worth...I hope you and Roman are happy together."

Janus turned back to his room, opening the door. "I hope so too. And I hope you find someone who loves you back, Remus."

And with that, he walked into his room, and out of Remus' life.
