《The Snake In My Dreams》Ch. 16

Remus shot them a look that screamed "WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING HERE?!"
Virgil, in response, gave him a look that said "stopping you, dumbass!"
Remus glared at him. "Don't you dare!"
Virgil rolled his eyes. "This is going to turn out badly."
Patton sent Remus a look that said "I'm hungry."
Remus looked at him quizzically, before returning his focus to Virgil.
He stuck out his tongue, and turned towards the musicians Roman had summoned.
Virgil and Patton watched as Remus pointed his finger in the direction of the musicians, then shot them a cheeky smile.
Remus put the guitar and the violin out of tune.
Virgil and Patton immediately sprang towards the musicians, making sure not to catch the eye of Roman, and told them to make sure their instruments were tuned.
Virgil gave Remus a smug smile, which immediately dissipated when he saw that Remus was smirking.
Virgil's eyes widened. It was a distraction! He looked around the scene frantically. What did he mess up?! What did he mess up?!
Virgil heard footsteps coming, and dove back into his bush.
Roman seemed to have also heard it, because he whirled around.
A large grin found its way to Roman's face. "Janus!" He chirped, walking over to him. "Welcome!"
"Hello, Roman." Janus appeared calm, but Virgil could sense how anxious he was from a mile away. "I'm a bit early, I hope that's alright?"
"Of course!" Roman beamed. "I'm just glad you came! I was about done here anyways. What do you think?" Roman asked, gesturing to the scene he created.
A loud racket cut through the air. Roman whipped his head over to the musicians. The violinist and guitarist were tuning their instruments, which seemed to be very out of tune.

Roman frowned in confusion. He was sure he had made it so their instruments sounded perfect.
Janus glanced at Roman, raising a brow.
"O-Oh! They're just making sure they sound perfect for you!" Roman stammered, gently grabbing Janus' hand. "I wouldn't want them to mess up mid-performance."
"I suppose not." Janus shrugged, unable to take his eyes off of their connected hands. Janus flushed slightly, but Roman pretended he didn't notice.
"I remember you told me you liked sweets, yes?" Roman hummed, leading Janus into the gazebo.
Janus' eyes widened greedily as soon as he caught sight of the picnic. "Roman, you didn't have to--"
"I wanted to." Roman told him. "You're special to me, and I want this to be special to you as well."
Patton almost released a squeal, but Virgil slapped a hand over his mouth. Remus rolled his eyes at the entire scene.
Roman says Janus is special to him. Sure. But was Janus as special to Roman as he was to Remus? He didn't think so.
"This is already special to me." Janus chuckled. "Everytime I'm with you feels special." He immediately reddened. "Ugh, that sounded cheesy."
"Well if that was cheesy, I'm the cheesiest side around." Roman joked.
"You say as if I didn't already know that." Janus snorted at the offended squawk Roman let out. "Oh, I'm so sorry about that. Did I hurt your feelings, darling?"
"You get a pass, since this is our first date as an official couple." Roman huffed, though everyone could tell he wasn't angry at all.
Janus flushed, having just remembered that fact. They were dating now. Actually dating.
Remus snorted. We'll see how long that lasts.
The musicians seemed to finally find the right key, and began playing some music for them. It was beautiful, Remus begrudgingly admitted.

"There we go," Roman sighed in satisfaction. "Perfect."
"...yes, perfect." Janus mumbled distractedly, looking down. Roman followed his gaze, and turned crimson when he realized that they were still holding hands.
"Ah, sorry." Roman chuckled, gently pulling his hand away.
Janus immediately grabbed his hand again, avoiding eye contact. "No, it felt...nice."
Roman's eyes widened, but he made no effort to pull his hand away.
Remus was green (well, greener) with envy. He glared at his brother with as much vehemence as he was physically capable of.
Patton was silently cooing at the pair, but Virgil kept his eyes on Remus. He was watching his gaze, hoping his line of sight would betray him.
The three watched as Janus and Roman talked. It felt like they were intruding on a private moment (which they were, so that made sense), but Virgil wouldn't leave until he made sure Remus didn't make another move.
All was going smoothly, until Janus reached for a chocolate.
He immediately gagged the second it entered his mouth.
Roman furrowed his brow in concern. "What happened?! Are you alright?"
"No, I'm fine!" Janus assured quickly, waving Roman off.
"Did it not taste good?" Roman asked, frowning.
"What? Of course not! It was absolutely delicious! It caught me off guard!" Janus chuckled, taking another bite to prove it.
Other than an eye twitch, Janus didn't show any signs that it didn't taste good.
"...alright, if you're sure..." Roman mumbled uncertainly.
Virgil shot his eyes over to Remus, who was grinning from ear to ear.
Janus, not wanting to seem rude, ate chocolate after chocolate. All of them could tell that he could barely suppress his vomit.
Finally, after about 15 chocolates, Janus stood up abruptly. Roman, who was mid-sentence, clamped his mouth shut and stood up as well. "Are you alright?"
"This has been lovely, Roman." Janus choked out, hands wrapped around his abdomen. "But I'm afraid I'm not feeling well--"
"Oh, would you like me to escort you back to your room?" Roman offered.
"No! I-I was just gonna sink out, so you don't need to." Janus croaked, turning paler by the second. "Th-Thank you again for--"
Janus slapped a hand over his mouth and lurched foward slightly. With a quick glance at Roman, he sunk out.
Roman turned, picked up a chocolate, and popped it in his mouth.
He cringed, summoned a napkin, and immediately spit it out. "Shit..." He murmured, frowning. "You fucked up, Roman." He sighed.
