《The Snake In My Dreams》Ch. 10

What would Roman do?

That was the question that had been running through Remus' mind. If Roman was in love with someone that was way out of his league (which would never happen) what would he do?

Well, the answer to that was obvious. He would pursue them with all his minds. But see, Remus wasn't Roman. Remus didn't have Roman's bravery or strength.

Sure, others would say he seemed brave. But there was a difference between not fearing death and fearing it but pressing on anyways. Roman was an amazing side (as much as it pained Remus to admit) and he would know exactly what to do in this situation.

But, once again, Remus wasn't Roman.

He would never be.

So the question should probably be: What would Remus do?

To be honest, Remus was having trouble believing that he was in love with Janus. It just didn't make any sense. That shouldn't be possible. Still, he felt something when he was with him. It was like his thoughts vanished as soon as they made eye contact.

"Remus?" Janus called from the living room, breaking him out of his thoughts.

"What is it, Jan-Jan?" Remus chirped, bouncing into his friend's view. Remus froze as soon as he caught sight of the snake. "What is that?"

Janus was holding a snake. It was curled around his arm as he lightly stroked his head. "Anguis is a who, not a what." Janus huffed. "Can you summon something for him to eat?"

"Okay, since when did you have a snake?" Remus asked. "I think I would remember making something like that."

"Oh, Roman made him for me." Janus smiled fondly, chuckling slightly. "Isn't he cute?"

"I've never really found Roman cute, but--"

Janus went bright red, glaring at Remus. "Not Roman! Anguis!" He huffed, scowling. "I don't find Roman cute. No way." He mumbled to himself.

Remus pursed his lips, that awful feeling he felt before returning. He snapped, and a dead mouse was in his hand. "Here you go!" He chirped.

"It's already dead? I assumed you would want to watch him eat it alive." Janus mumbled, taking the mouse in slight disgust.

"Don't enable him." A new voice joined the conversation, causing Remus to jump.

"Roman? What are you doing here?" Janus asked, standing up and walking over to the prince. "I thought I told you it wasn't safe to--"

"I know, but I wanted to take you somewhere special! As a thank you for helping me realize that I was being stupid." Roman shrugged. "You can take Anguis if you want."

"Are we going to the Imagination?" Janus asked, not able to hide the slightly excited glint in his eye. Roman nodded, grinning,

"Yup! I planned a picnic!"

Remus cleared his throat to remind the other two that he was still there. They both jumped. Janus quickly composed himself.

"Remus, I'll be out for a bit. Think you can manage without me?" He asked, a playful smirk on his face.

"Go eat your finger food! Ooh, finger food! Like food made out of fingers!" Remus giggled. Janus rolled his eyes, while Roman shuddered at the thought.

"I see you're well, brother." Roman gave him a kurt nod. Remus smirked.

"I left a suprise underneath your pillow." Remus winked. Roman gave Remus an oh so satisfying horrified expression.

"Now boys," Janus chuckled, giving them a sickeningly sweet smile. "Play nice."

Remus huffed and crossed his arms, while Roman scoffed and ran a hand through his hair. The twins glanced at each other, before averting their eyes once more.

"Be good, Remus." Janus smirked condescendingly, giving Remus two pats in the head. Remus giggled.

"When am I not good, 'anus?" He chirped.

Remus woke up underwater. He immediately tried to take a deep breath, and was disappointed to find that he could breathe. He released a sigh, wondering why he could breathe.

"What...are you?" Someone asked to his right. Remus turned, spotting a mermaid with a beautiful, purple tale.

"Virgil?" Remus asked, spotting the infamous eyeshadow. He immediately broke out into a large grin. He could speak for himself! The mermaid stiffened, curling in on himself.

"How do you know my name?" He asked quietly, looking beyond terrified.

"Lucky guess?" Remus shrugged. The mermaid hesitantly swam closer, looking over his whole body. "Wow, I appreciate you checking me out but--"

"Where are your gills?" Virgil asked, furrowing his brow. "Logan told me that the only reason we can breathe underwater is because of our gills, but you don't seem to have any."

"That's because I don't!" Remus chirped. Virgil gave him a bewildered look.

"Then how--?"

"Maaaaagic~!" Remus smirked. Virgil's eyes widened.

"But the prince said that magic isn't real?"

"The prince?"

"Prince Janus! Oh, you have to meet him!" Virgil gasped, grabbing his hand and beginning to lead him somewhere.

Time seemed to jump foward, because suddenly Remus was in front of an underwater castle. Remus hesitantly swam in.

His jaw immediately dropped. On the throne sat Patton the mermaid, beaming at him. That wasn't what caught his attention, though.

Janus was next to the throne, looking at Remus with a curious expression on his face. His tail was brilliantly gold. The scales traveled up half of his body, giving him the scaly face that Remus was very familiar with. Instead of yellow scales, they were a beautiful gold.

And oh my god, he looked magnificent.

"Y-Your royal highnesses!" Virgil stammered, immediately bowing down. Remus didn't bow, hoping he would get beheaded.

"Rise, Virgil. No need to be so formal." Patton smiled gently.

"Your friend seems to understand that very well." Janus remarked sarcastically.

"Now now, be nice." Patton lightly scolded Janus. "Now, Virgil, what brings you here?"

"This strange fish claims to have magic!" Virgil exclaimed, pointing at Remus. Remus almost burst into laughter. Strange fish?

"Oh? How curious. And who might you be?" Janus asked him. Remus went red. Oh my god, he had it bad.

"Uh, I'm the Duke!" Remus chirped.

"The Duke of what?"

"Huh?"

"You're the duke of what?" Janus asked, tilting his head. Remus gaped like a fish, stunned.

"Uh....Creativity?" Remus shrugged.

"The Duke of Creativity, is it? Splendid! We shall have a feast for your arrival!" Patton giggled. "Tell me, where is this 'Creativity' you speak of?"

"That can wait," Janus swam over to him. "You claim to have magic, do you?" He grabbed Remus' arms, lifting them up to examine the area underneath.

Remus felt like exploding, and it took all his willpower not to do so.

"You don't seem very magical." Janus murmured.

"The strange fish doesn't have gills!" Virgil chimed in. "He said he could breathe because of magic! And he knew my name before I even introduced myself!"

"A fish with no gills? How odd." Janus hummed. "I admit, for a fish without gills...you're very pretty."

"Th-Thank you!" Remus stammered, suddenly flustered.

"May I see some of this magic?" Patton spoke up. Before Remus could answer, the dream faded away.

That was a weird one.
