《Sanders Sides One Shots: Volume 2 [COMPLETED]》All Bets Are Off (Prinxiety & Logicality)

Logan had no idea why he put up with Roman Prince. He was dramatic, emotional, prideful, and a little bit of a prick sometimes. Yet, they were best friends, practically inseparable; others probably thought they were secretly dating or something, especially with their constant bickering back and forth.

Contrary to this pair, another unlikely couple of friends was the ever enthusiastic and outgoing Patton Valentine and social outcast and proud emo Virgil Black. While the former was friendly and happy to converse, the latter preferred to draw and stay mostly silent.

It seemed it was only fitting that the pairs would fall in love with each other.

~

Logan Sharp was a bit of anti-social person. It wasn't that he didn't feel comfortable with socializing or making friends; it was simply that he wanted to enjoy being alone and in peace. For example, he spent most of his study hall period in the library, where a few other kids that would be deemed nerds would talk or read. It was always the same kids, so Logan looked up in surprise when someone burst into the library in a hurry.

"Oh! Sorry!" Patton gasped out an apology as everyone turned to look at him. "Sorry, sorry, I'm just gonna go work over there, I'll be quiet."

He smiled and then made his way toward Logan who was sitting in a chair at a round table with his book. He sat down across from him, meeting his eyes and smiling brightly at him. "Hi! I'm Patton," he said, voice much quieter than when he'd first entered the library but just as excited. "What are you reading?"

"Uh, I'm rereading The Murder of Roger Ackroyd by Agatha Christie," he replied, nodding to the cover.

"Oh! That's cool, I'll let you read now," Patton said with a smile, opening his notebook to study. Logan did continue to read in peace for a few more minutes, but soon he was being tapped on the shoulder by the other boy. "Um, sorry to bother you, but do you have biology?"

He looked at him, raising an eyebrow. "I had it last year," he said slowly.

The other boy got an expression of relief on his face at his words and quickly scooted over to sit closer to him. "Could you maybe help me with this? I don't really know if I'm doing the right thing," he admitted.

Putting down his book, Logan took a look at the assignment he was holding. Most of his responses so far were correct, but as he got further down the page, it became clear that he was struggling to find the right answers. He glanced up at the boy's desperate gaze and felt his breath catch in his throat.

"Okay, this answer's wrong," he said, pointing to it. Patton frowned, but sighed as though he'd expected that. "You're close, you've just gotta reread the fourth paragraph. It says the answer, right there."

He'd flipped the paper over to the reading that went with the questions he was answering and was pointing to the paragraph. The boy took the paper from him and reread it, gasping.

"Oh! I see it now! Thanks!" he said, flipping the paper back over and quickly writing the correct answer.

Logan felt his stomach flip for some odd reason upon seeing his smile directed at him. He returned to reading his book, only getting interrupted a couple times by Patton when he got stuck again, but by the end of the period the boy was finished with the assignment and beaming happily as they stood up to leave the library.

"Thanks so much for your help," he said gratefully, smiling at him as they walked side-by-side. "I wouldn't have been able to finish it without you. I'm Patton by the way."

A smile tugged at the intellectual boy's lips as he shook his hand. "I'm Logan, and you already said that," he pointed out. His eyes went wide and he flushed with an embarrassed giggle as he drew his hand back. "You should probably head to your bio class if you want to turn that assignment in on time."

"Oh! You're right!" he exclaimed. He began to walk away hurriedly in the direction of his class, waving at him. "Thank you again, Logan!!"

He returned the wave, feeling warm all over from the interaction. A blush was creeping up into his cheeks. It wasn't often that he felt this way toward someone, and Patton didn't seem like his type, but there was just something about him that made him want to smile, which was no easy feat.

~

Roman wasn't expecting his art teacher to assign them a pairs project, but he was already not looking forward to it. Call him selfish all you want, but he wanted to make art his way, with his ideas; working with someone else was not something he enjoyed.

He listened with boredom as the teacher listed off the pairs, awaiting for his name to be called. "Jack and Mark, Dan and Phil, Roman and Virgil-"

The princely boy's head snapped up in confusion. He was paired with Virgil Black? The Virgil Black?

He swallowed nervously, looking over at the darkly dressed boy who sat at the back of the room. There were rumors about that boy, nasty rumors. Evidently he'd stabbed a kid in his freshman year, but there was no real proof aside from the report that he'd brought a pocket knife to school with him.

Roman felt his heart leap into his chest once the boy looked up and met his gaze. His eyes were mostly shadowed by his bangs, but he could see the dark brown, almost black, irises that seemed to steal the breath from his lungs.

He'd be lying if he said he wasn't a little afraid when he stood up and made his way over to the desk next to Virgil. "Hey, I'm Roman," he said, putting on a smile and extending his hand.

"Virgil," the darkly dressed boy mumbled in response, fiddling with his pencil. "So I take it you believe the rumors then."

Blinking, he withdrew his hand and stared in shock. "Um, I mean- I've heard them, but I don't necessarily know if they're true," he admitted, getting the feeling that lying wouldn't be a good idea. Virgil just eyed him with a blank expression, making him shift uncomfortably. "Are they true?"

The corner of his lips quirked up in a smirk. "Wouldn't you like to know?" he said rolling his eyes.

"Fine, be like that," Roman huffed, crossing his arms at the boy's stubbornness. This earned a laugh from him, making his eyes widen at the sound; he'd never heard Virgil Black laugh before. "What's funny?"

"You," he replied, looking toward him as he fixed is bangs with an amused smirk. "You're pretty cute when you're mad."

Instantaneously, the princely boy's guard was dropped. This boy was undeniably attractive, had a horrible reputation, and yet, he'd just called him cute. He let a smile slip onto his lips as he let his frustration and wariness fade. "You don't seem too bad yourself."

"You're that theatre kid, right?" he asked, making him blink in surprise. He thought he spotted a pink tint rise into his cheeks. "It's just- I go see the shows. You look familiar."

Roman nodded, beaming and puffing his chest out proudly. "I'm the president of the theatre department!" he boasted.

"Cool, now what do you think we should base this project on?" he asked. "I don't really know what we could have in common given, you know, everything about our general look and personalities."

This thought hadn't crossed his mind yet. He frowned, trying to consider what they could possibly have in common. "Uh, do you like movies?"

"I mean... I think Disney's cool..." the darkly dressed boy mumbled, a tiny pink tint on his cheeks at the statement.

Roman's face brightened immediately as he gasped and beamed. "Really?! I love Disney!!" he exclaimed. "What's you're favorite song?! Favorite movie? Oh! Favorite prince? Oh shit you're probably straight so uh, favorite princess?"

Virgil just blinked at him in shock, having not been expecting his outburst. His reaction made the princely boy flush red with embarrassment. "Ha, sorry, that was embarrassing."

"Yeah, that was embarrassing to watch," he replied with a small smirk, making him flush even more. He then cleared his throat and got a slight blush of his own on his cheeks. "I think Flynn Rider's pretty cute..."

Roman's face brightened at his words. "So you...?"

"Yeah, you?" he asked, arching an eyebrow at him. He nodded, smiling and leaning toward him flirtatiously. He leaned away, squinting at the princely boy. "Okay, I asked what your orientation is, I didn't say you could start flirting with me."

Roman flushed and pulled back, embarrassed with his actions and wishing he could just start this interaction over again. "My apologies," he said. "I'm a bit eccentric sometimes."

"Yeah, I gathered that," Virgil replied with amusement lacing his tone. "Now come on, we've only got a week to do this project thing, and I've got an idea for this piece. I think we'll both like this, and maybe we'll actual have fun... that is, if I don't end up stabbing you."

At this, he paled and swallowed nervously, making the darkly dressed boy laugh charmingly. "I'm kidding."

~

Later that afternoon, Logan was reading at the typical lunch table he sat at. He felt the table vibrate with someone sitting down next to him, making him roll his eyes and lower his book as the princely boy cleared his throat obnoxiously.

"Do you mind, Roman? I was trying to finish this chapter," he said tersely, begrudgingly setting the book aside.

He shook his head. "No, I really don't mind, because I have to do an art project with Virgil freaking Black!" he gasped out, eyes wide and expression kind of crazy. Logan arched an eyebrow at him; it was a silent question as to why he should care about this fact. "You know, Virgil Black?! The kid that supposedly stabbed someone in his freshman year? Wears all black and has the purple hair? Wears really emo eye shadow?"

"Are you talking about him?" his friend said, gesturing across the cafeteria to where the said boy was sitting down next the ever-smiling Patton Valentine. "Because I find it hard to believe that Patton Valentine would be friends with someone who stabbed someone else."

Roman stared, leaning on his hand as he watched the darkly dressed boy talk to the older boy. "Yeah, I think it's all rumors, but he was definitely found with a pocket knife."

"Well, there's a very low chance he's a violent person if he's friends with Patton," Logan said, picking up his book again. The princely boy noticed then that every sentence he'd said in the last two minutes after he'd identified Virgil had distinctly included the other boy. He gave his best friend a raised eyebrow and a smirk, making his eyes dart to the side in confusion. "What?"

He shrugged, smiling wider. "Nothing, just that you seem to be awfully intrigued by this Patton boy," he pointed out. At this, Logan's cheeks flushed a little bit. "Wow, the Microsoft Nerd's got a crush, how sweet!"

"Oh shut up, half-wit," he bit, pulling the book closer to his face in an attempt to ignore him.

Roman frowned, but it quickly turned to a smirk. He reached across and pushed the book down onto the table so Logan would have to acknowledge him. "I bet you twenty bucks you can't get a date with your crush, who I assume is that Patton boy."

"Oh?" he replied, looking a little tempted. Though he didn't want to admit it, he was also incredibly competitive. "I'll double it if you do it too."

The princely boy nodded with a confident smirk. "Deal, first to get a date with them wins the forty," he said, extending his hand to his best friend. Logan took it, mirroring his smug expression.

"You're on."

~

What Logan had left out in the details of when he made this bet with his foolish and arrogant friend was that he had Patton in his sixth period English class. He had never really noticed him before his interaction with him at the library. He was already fairly certain the bubbly boy would accept his offer, the only thing that made this difficult would be finding a time to ask him.

"Afternoon class, I've some simple work planned for you this afternoon, but it shouldn't take you all period, so you may use the extra time you have after you've finished to complete any missing or late assignments you have in my class," his teacher instructed as he wrote the assignment on the board. "Read through pages 254 through 260 and complete the ten question section review at the end. Restate the question or write out. You may listen to your music and you may work together if you keep the volume to a reasonable level."

He sighed in relief, looking at Patton a few desks away. He had slipped his white headphones with cat ears on the tops over his ears and was moving a little to the music. Disappointment swirled in Logan's stomach; it was pretty clear that he was intending to work alone.

Don't be concerned, Roman is sure to be rejected by Virgil, so I'll ask him tomorrow, he thought decisively as he began his own work.

~

What Roman had left out in the details of when he made this bet with his overconfident and stubborn friend was that he had Virgil in his seventh period math class. He, of course, had noticed him before, but he'd actively avoided him. Now he was wishing that he'd decided to sit closer to his desk at the back of the room.

"Afternoon class! Today is a make-up day!" his overenthusiastic teacher said. "All the work from this unit is due tomorrow, so anything you haven't fully finished? This is your opportunity to take care of it in class."

With that, she set the class loose. Roman looked toward Virgil, who was brooding in his desk with his headphones on. The class all shifted around so they could work with their friends, so he took the chance and made his way over to the empty desk next to the darkly dressed boy. He gave him a confused look as he sat down and smiled at him.

"Hi!" he greeted.

He watched as he reluctantly moved his headphones so that one ear wasn't covered. "Uh, hi? What do you want?" the darkly dressed boy asked, looking skeptical.

"Nothing, I just thought we could get to know each other a little considering we have that art project," Roman hurried out, inwardly cursing himself for losing the confidence to specifically ask him on a date. The bet was to get a date, not a platonic hang out. "I'm free this weekend."

"Oh really," Virgil replied sarcastically, not clarifying if he was also free.

His remaining confidence deflated, biting his lip. It was clear that he had some work to do with this one. He'd have to try another tactic tomorrow.

~

The next morning, Logan waited in the library during his study hall, hoping that Patton Valentine would come barreling through the doors. Ten minutes into the period he'd given up hope, but sure enough, he pulled the doors open and whisper-shouted an apology as he hurried toward his table.

"Hey! Logan right?" he asked for clarification. He nodded, trying to smile at him in a way that would show romantic interest. "Good to see you again!"

"Likewise," Logan said and then cursing himself when Patton turned to focus on the book he'd brought with him that day. He sat there, pretending to read his book for the rest of study hall as he tried to come up with some way to ask him out. As the bell rang and they began walking toward the door, he hurried to say something. "Excuse me if I'm being too forward but I've got a semi-important question to ask you."

The other boy looked a little startled and nervous. "Uh, I kinda have to go," he said apologetically.

"I'l tell you in English," he promised with a nod as he turned to head toward his own class, waving goodbye to Patton with a small smile. He exhaled in relief, hoping Roman had been unsuccessful in his attempts during his art period.

~

Roman had been unsuccessful. Every time he'd tried to flirt with Virgil, he was brushed off or laughed at, and he was starting to lose hope that he had even a remote chance at winning his forty dollars. He was sitting with his head down at lunch, sighing heavily when someone suddenly tapped him on the shoulder.

He looked up, expecting Logan and seeing the darkly dressed boy of his dreams instead. "Virgil! Hi!" he gasped out, fixing his hair and sitting up straight as he cleared his throat.

"Geez you are cute," Virgil said with a chuckle as he sat down next to him. The princely boy stared at him in pure shock at his remark and the smile on his face. "Figured I'd save you the embarrassment of trying to flirt with me again, and just do this."

He grabbed Roman's shirt and pulled him in for a sweet kiss, making him gasp before melting into it. When he pulled away breathlessly, he managed to say one thing with a grin.

"Logan owes me forty bucks."

~

Despite begrudgingly handing over the forty dollars he'd promised his best friend at lunch, Logan was determined to take Patton out on a date.

He was reading, waiting for the other boy to arrive when a pencil pushed his book down gently. He looked up with a surprised expression to see a smiling Patton. "Uh, hey Logan," he said, blushing. "Virgil told me about this bet you made with your friend, Roman Prince?"

"Oh, that, I assure you I meant no offense-"

"I can't believe you lost! All you had to do was ask me!" Patton giggled, leaning down to kiss him quickly on the cheek as he slipped a piece of paper into his hand. "Text me a time and place!"

With that, skipped back to his desk, leaving Logan blushing furiously into his book to hide his grin.
