"Are you sure it's no inconvenience? We can hire a sitter for a night if it is," Virgil worried as he fidgeted with his jacket.
He and his husband were going out for the night, seeing as it was their wedding anniversary. Roman had suggested letting their good friends, Patton and Logan, watch their little girl. Rose was eight years old, so she wasn't helpless, but they certainly didn't want to leave her home alone.
"Virge, you've got nothing to worry about! I'm a natural with kids!" Patton reassured him, smiling as he hoisted the giggling little girl onto his back. "What do you want to do princess?"
"I wanna watch movies!" she exclaimed, still laughing she clung to him. Everyone's hearts warmed at the sight.
He smiled, looking at Virgil and Roman. "You heard Princess Rose," he said, carrying her toward the living room as Logan smiled fondly at them.
"You're sure you don't want us to call a sitter?" Virgil asked again.
"Virgil, breathe," the necktie wearing man told him. "Like Patton said, he's a natural with kids, and I'll make sure they don't get into any trouble, and that Rose doesn't stay up too late or eat too many sweets. You two go enjoy your anniversary dinner before you're late to your reservation."
Roman nodded, smiling gratefully as his husband relaxed at his words. "Thank you, you two are really helping us out," he said, taking Virgil by the hand to lead him to the car. "We should be back before midnight!"
"Doubt it!" Logan called, winking at them as their faces flushed red. They got into the car and drove off as he waved them off. He shook his head as he headed back inside, hearing giggles coming from the kitchen. The intellectual man moved to investigate. Straightening his glasses, he didn't even flinch as confetti fell over him. Patton and Rose were each holding party poppers, and the little girl was giggling like crazy. He raised his eyebrow at his fiance. "Really, Pat?"

He giggled to moving forward to pull the confetti off of him. "Rose wanted to surprise you," he said he leaned in to kiss him gently.
"Eww! Not you too!" Rose complained as they pulled away. They gave her confused looks as she huffed. "My dads do that all the time and it's disgusting!"
Patton chuckled, leaning down to her level. "Well someday you're going to want to kiss someone," he told her with a smile. She shook her head, pouting. The cardigan-wearing young man tilted his head curiously. "No?"
"No! Why would I do that? It looks gross!" she exclaimed.
Logan down at his fiance curiously, wondering what he was going to say in response to this. "Well, it's not as gross as it looks for one," he said gently. "Kissing means different things to different people, but to a lot of people it's a romantic gesture."
"What does it mean to you?" she asked, eyes wide and curious.
Patton smiled at this. "Kissing someone is a very romantic thing to me. You kiss someone you care more about than yourself, someone you love more than anything," he explained happily, thinking of his fiance. "Kissing someone... is an intimate thing that shows them you love them without words."
"Intimate?" Rose repeated, confused.
"Intimacy," he said, nodding. "Intimacy has a couple meanings, but being intimate with someone usually means being really, really close to them. It doesn't necessarily have to be romantic, but a lot times it is. When you're intimate with a person, you tell them everything. Things you're scared to admit," he glanced down at his arm briefly, still wishing he could make the faded pink lines disappear completely, "and they help you. They trust you with things too, and you help them. Being intimate with someone is kind of like finding a soulmate."

The little girl blinked, eyes widening even more with intrigue. "A soulmate?"
"They're like your best friend in the whole wide world, but even more than that," Patton explained with a grin. "They love and accept you for who you are, and they don't want you to change and they always want you in their life; and you always want them in your life too."
"That sounds amazing!" she said excitedly, beaming. "I wanna a soulmate! I want someone like that!"
The man felt his chest warm. "I'm sure you'll meet yours soon, Rose," he said, ruffling her hair. "Now why don't you head into the living room and start that pillow fort? We'll go get the movies, okay?"
"Okay!" she replied, hugging him before dashing off.
Patton smiled as he stood up, watching her go. "She's so sweet," he said, turning to his fiance. He was staring at him, this awed expression on his face. Not sure what he was looking at him like that for, he chuckled breathlessly in confusion. "What is it Lo?"
"God I love you so much," he rushed out, pulling him into kiss by his waist. He gasped in surprise but melted into it, smiling. His fiance pulled away, brushing their noses together. "Why are you so perfect?"
"We both know I'm not perfect, Logan, I've got the scars to prove that," the cardigan-wearing man said sadly, shaking his head.
He shushed him. "None of that, love," he gently scolded, taking his wrist to kiss said scars. "Your flaws make you perfect to me, and that's what you were just telling her, wasn't it? That your soulmate is a person who accepts and loves every part of you."
"Yeah, I guess I did say that, didn't I?" Patton said bashfully. His fiance nodded as they shared smiles and another kiss. "Okay, we should probably go help Rose set up the movies."
"You're right," Logan agreed as he moved toward the living room. He cleared his throat, preparing to tell him something he'd been meaning to tell him for almost a week. "I guess this'll be good practice..."
The other man froze, spinning around with wide eyes. "Y-You... you mean-"
"Yes, I've thought it over," he said with smile. Tears started to well up in Patton's eyes as a smile broke out on his face. "I want to adopt with you."
They were suddenly on the ground and Logan's face was being smothered with kisses. "Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!" he exclaimed. "I love you so much!!"
"Uncle Pat! Logan! What's taking you two so long?!" Rose whined from the other room as they shared breathless laughs. They got to their feet, heading out to the living room. The little girl was sitting under a massive pillow fort. She was definitely good at it. "Did you get the movies?"
Patton smiled at his fiance widely. "Not yet, I'll go take care of that," he said leaving the room. He wasn't going to be able to stop smiling all night.

The Ordinary Life of Tom Nobody
[participant in the 2018 NaNoWriMo Royal Road challenge] The Ordinary Life of Tom Nobody is a LitRPG system story where each person transitions into the system, or SCHEMA as this system is known, innocent and unaware of his former life. Following the tutorial, memories return, but by this point, each person has a better chance of accepting their new world. It also gives them an opportunity to start from scratch, fresh without all the baggage of their former lives dictating their decisions in the early stages of the process. I don’t expect this will necessarily turn into an action-packed heroic tale, my intent is to create a character who wants to have just an ordinary, but reasonably comfortable life. I don’t know myself how well he will succeed, there may be twists and Tom may discover some heroism hidden deep inside. I guess we’ll find out together. This is my first writing attempt. I’ve wanted to write all my life, but I’ve never been able to develop the proper discipline to put in the work. I hope I complete the challenge and work my way past this hump. I am writing this as part of the NaNoWriMo Royal Road Challenge. While I will try to self-edit as I go, the challenge requires close to 2,000 words a day, so parts of the story may be rough, and things like plot lines may not make as much sense as any of us would like. If all goes well, and I complete the challenge, I plan on going back through everything and trying to polish it up. In the meanwhile, thank you for reading and I hope I don’t disappoint.

The Lost Archon
One early spring afternoon, sixteen-year-old Reid is going for a walk when he finds a magical occurrence taking him to another world. A world where he is considered an impossible mage - and where he becomes ridiculously powerful quickly. Though he's happy for the adventures he can go on and the friends he makes, Reid also wants to find out how he got there and why, and if there's a way to return home to his parents. Reid's priorities in this new world are learning magic, going on a few adventures, dealing with his feelings for the cute wolfkin Terrence Windfang, and seek an audience with the gods. All but one of them, he finds, is significantly easier than he expected. This is a participant in the [April 2022 Royal Road Writathon Challenge]. The story is also concluded as of 4/26/2022. IMPORTANT NOTES: 1) This is a story about an OP guy doing OP guy things. There will be few fights that he struggles with, and he will rarely, if ever, find his life in peril. 2) This is a slice-of-life and adventure story, which means that there will be periods of chapters without any action or conflict, but also periods of chapters with battles and exploration/adventure. 3) There will be NO petty squabbles or conflicts going on in this story, because it is meant to be a fun one, not a high-tension, drama-filled story. So it will NOT be that. If you want lots of action or lots of conflict, then find another story to read because this isn't it. 4) There will never be an overarching evil/villain/conflict to deal with in this story. Ever. 5) This story will not contain sexual content as it will end after Book 1. As such, Reid and his future boyfriend will never reach 18+ years of age in-story, so they will never have sex in the story. There will also be no harem in this story. 6) This is a part of the Royal Road April 2022 Writathon Challenge. 7) This story takes place in its own story universe, with its own rules. Please keep that in mind when reading it and other stories.
