Roman entered his room to find a note on his bed. It was written with purple ink, and in a familiar messy handwriting belonging only to his boyfriend. He smiled as he read it.

My Prince, I've a surprise for you. Please, follow the path of rose petals.

Love, Virgil

Though he didn't know what his boyfriend was talking about, he soon found out when a burst of purple magic came from the note. Roman looked behind him, eyes widening as a trail of purple rose petals appeared on the floor.

"Whoa..." he breathed, a smile on his face as he followed them. The prince found himself approaching Virgil's door, eyebrows furrowing in confusion. He put a hand on the doorknob, opening it.

He gasped as he stepped through the doorway, a bright purple flash blinding him for a moment. When Roman blinked his eyes open, they widened as a smile spread across his lips. The door hadn't taken him into his boyfriend's room, but rather an imaginary space in the mind. It was a beautiful field, flowers blooming all around him with colors much too dark; even the bark of the tree in front of him was dark, and the grass was the deepest of greens. Virgil was waiting with something behind his back, standing in front of said tree and looking nervous.

"S-Sorry if it's all a little dark," he said, stuttering just a little bit as he pulled out the black and purple bouquet of flowers. Roman gasped as he took them, the darker Side continuing. "I can't really make anything that's not dark, but I tried really hard to create a place you'd like, so I hope you d-don't mind."

"Of course not," Roman replied, smelling the beautiful scent of the flowers.

That's when the dark Side cleared his throat and gestured to the table that was set up. The prince smiled wide again, moving toward it. Virgil followed quickly to pull his chair out for him, but ended up tripping. He stumbled, his boyfriend moving to help him to his feet as he flushed with embarrassment. "S-Sorry, just s bit shaky," he said, not meeting his gaze.

"That's alright Virgil," replied with a smile as he pushed in his chair. When the anxious side moved to get him a drink, he spilled it everywhere do to his shaking hands.

He teared up as he looked down at the liquid. His hands went limp without him telling them to, making him drop he glasses as Roman stood up. "Virgil, are you-"

"W-Why can't I do one thing right?" he asked as he wiped at his face. "I just wanted to surprise you with a romantic dinner, cause I know how much you love romantic things, but I just suck at it.

The prince stared at him a moment before chuckling deeply. When the anxious side looked at him in surprise, his boyfriend slid a hand under his cheek and kissed him gently. Virgil gasped but melted under the feeling, looking shocked as they broke apart.

"You're incredible," Roman murmured with a small laugh. "You didn't have to go through all this trouble, Virgil."

"I know, I just wanted to do something nice for you," he said, flushing with embarrassment.

The prince laughed a little, rubbing their noses together. "You do something nice whenever you show me that smile," he said, brushing his bangs out of his eyes as Virgil did just that. "See? Absolutely beautiful."

"I thought I was supposed to be romancing you this time," he whined as he blushed.

"I can't help it, I'm the prince," Roman said with a smile as he pulled him closer by the waist. "And you're my Chemically Imbalanced Romance."
