Virgil woke up in a dark room. The floor beneath him was hard and cold. He couldn't talk, his mouth covered by something. He blinked rapidly, panic rising in his chest as he tried to stand. He couldn't; his arms were chained to the floor and his feet were bound. Virgil found himself tugging on them desperately as he panicked, tears flowing down his cheeks. He heard a loud thud, and dust fell from the ceiling. He froze, hearing a low growl that shook his bones. Tears continued to slip silently down his cheeks as he stopped struggling.
Roman was looking for Virgil when Patton came to him in tears. "Roman!! Virgil's been taken by a dragon witch!!" he cried.
The prince gasped in horror, grabbing his friend's shoulders. "Not to worry, Patton! I'll save him!" he told him, letting go of him to sprint toward the dreamscape.
He didn't notice the way Patton wiped his eyes and smiled to himself. The cardigan wearing character hurried toward Logan's room. He entered, coming up behind Logan as he watched Roman through an observation station he had set up.
"How'd I do?" he asked excitedly. The intellectual Side flashed him a smile.
"You did fantastic, love," he told him before looking back at Roman who was now in the Imagination.
Patton was silent for a moment as he looked at the screen showing Virgil. "Hey Lo... why are we doing this again? He seems really freaked out..."
"I know, and I feel guilty too, but I'm testing how far Roman will go for love," he reminded him. "We both know of his affection for him, perhaps this 'storybook' setting is what he needs to confess."
The Dad-like Side nodded, tearing his eyes away from Virgil to watch the Prince.
Roman was running toward the tower, knowing only one dragon witch that was truly cruel enough to potentially kidnap one of them. His hand was on his sword, ready to be drawn the first sight of the beast. As he found himself at the tower, entering when he found no sign of the dragon witch. He rushed up the stairs, reaching the heavy door through he assumed Virgil was behind.
"Virgil?!?" he called, banging onto the door. There was a muffled cry from inside. "Virgil!!"
He slammed his shoulder against the door with enough force to bust it open. He stumbled into the dark room, seeing Virgil struggling. "Oh my god," he breathed rushing to him. He slid to ground in front of him, taking his face in his hands. "Virgil!"
He pulled the gag off of his mouth, making Virgil gasp. "R-Roman," he stammered, tears still falling.

"Shh, it's alright, I'm here," he told him moving to get his chains. "Everything will be fine-"
"No! Roman!"
His head snapped up too late. The roof of the tower was ripped off, revealing the massive form of the dragon witch, Helena. She was a dragon witch with clear marks of history on her skin. Her snout was scarred and deformed, her skin and scales marked from countless blades and claws of other dragon witches. Roman would be lying if he'd said his blade hadn't made one of those scars.
The prince drew his sword moving to stand between her and Virgil. He turned his head to reassure him. "Everything will be fine!" he told him, charging toward her.
He was ignoring the voice in the back of his head, which wondered if it really would be... he'd faced her once, and here she still stood. He'd barely made it out of that battle alive; what would happen this time...
Roman shook out his head, rolling to side as Helena spit fire at where he'd been standing. As her head came low, he leapt up to slice her neck, but she abruptly turned her head to knock him back. He hit the ground hard; he could hear Virgil's voice call his name as he looked up at the beast in horror.
"You think I don't remember you?" Helena hissed. Her voice shook the stone beneath them.
Roman's eyes went wide as she reached down with her claws and lifted him into the air. She held him in her giant dragon hand as he squirmed.
"I remember all of them, but you most," she spat. "After all, Prince Roman, it was you who took my eye."
One of her eyes was white with a deep scar running straight through it, making Roman cringe as he recalled doing it. He squirmed enough to get his dagger. He used it to stab her hand, making the dragon witch drop him. He rolled as hit the ground, rushing to Virgil.
"You need to get out of here!" he told him as he cut the cloth around his feet before moving to take the chains off. "When I get you free, run! Get as far away as possible!"
Virgil was about to protest when Roman was suddenly hit across the room with Helena's tail, hitting the wall and crumpling to the ground. "Roman!!"
The dragon witch cackled, lowering down to Virgil. "You... you I don't know, but I do know Roman cares for you greatly..." she said with a smirk. "Perhaps I should just kill you to torture him before I finish him off."

Roman struggled to sit up, ignoring the pain to look at Helena approaching Virgil. "No..." he breathed, painfully standing. He spotted his discarded sword, forming a plan what would most likely end terribly, but would at least save Virgil. He gripped his dagger and aim, throwing it to break his chains.
The anxious Side gasped in realization as Roman sprinted for his sword. Grabbing it, he leapt onto Helena's neck, holding on for dear life as she launched into the air, howling with rage. She twisted and turned, trying to throw him off. When they were high above the tower and Roman saw Virgil leave it, he took a deep breath.
"I hope I'm not about to die," he murmured to himself, looking back at Virgil. "I never got to tell him I love him."
With one more sad look, he twisted his sword to impale Helena through the throat. He dragged it down the middle, making her still. With life no longer flowing through her, they fell. Roman saw the ground getting closer as his heart raced. He locked eyes for a moment with Virgil before everything went black.
Virgil was rushing forward, coughing as dust caught in his lungs. They'd landed on the tower, smashing it to rubble. The anxious Side was frantically searching through it in search of Roman. "Roman!! ROMAN!!" he yelled, despair settling in his chest as he saw him. He ran toward him, lying on the ground, bleeding and broken. The prince coughed painfully as he slowly opened his eyes. "R-Roman..."
Virgil was crying as he knelt down next to him. He could tell without looking at him that his wounds would possibly lead to his death.
"A-Are... you- ok...?" he managed. Virgil took the prince's hand, nodding.
"Yes, yes Roman, I'm fine," he told him. "You saved me. That means you'll be okay! That's how fairytales work right?"
The prince smiled sadly as he winced. "Not... always..." he said, making Virgil's tears flow faster. "I-I'm... afraid- this one... might not- have a h-happy e-ending..."
"Please... please no..." Virgil said desperately. Roman reaches up to brush his cheek.
"At least I get to tell you I love you..." he said, his hand falling away as his breathing stopped and his eyes closed.
"No! No!" Virgil screamed, sobbing. "I love you too! Please don't leave me! This- This isn't fair!"
The prince didn't stir, leaving him told bury his face in his chest, sobbing. He lifted his head after a moment, looking at Roman's lifeless face. He was almost expecting him to jump to life, exclaiming that it was all a prank, but he didn't. He didn't do anything. Virgil let more tears fall from his far as he leaned closer and pressed a gentle kiss to his still warm lips.
There was a tingling sensation on his lips that caused him to pull away. He looked at the prince's body with wide eyes, watching as a faint gold glow formed over his wounds. Right before his eyes, the wounds healed themselves, and Roman sat up with a gasp.
He felt his chest, panting as he looked at himself before his eyes found Virgil. "V-Virgil?" he stammered.
"Oh my god..." the anxious Side breathed. "Oh my GOD YOU'RE ALIVE!"
He threw himself at the prince, wrapping his arms around him as tears of pure joy replaced the ones of sorrow. Roman gasped a little before he hugged him back tightly.
"I can't believe you're alive..." Virgil whispered. "You were dead..."
"I can't believe it either..." Roman murmured back. "What happened?"
"I kissed you..." Virgil said quietly. The prince's eyes widened, though the anxious Side didn't see because of the way they were holding each other. "I-I kisses you and then you were glowing and stuff, and then you just woke up..."
Roman pulled away, smiling at Virgil's confused face. "True love's kiss," he said, making the other's eyes widen. "You saved me Virgil."
His cheeks warmed as he looked down with a small smile. "I guess we're even, you saved me, and I saved you," he said meeting his eyes. Roman smiled nodding as he leaned forward capturing his lips in a kiss.
The two of them melted into it, kissing each other passionately. They broke apart briefly to meet each other's eyes before connecting their lips again.
Far from the dreamscape, Logan and Patton were on their feet watching in shock. "I... I didn't think it would go that far..." Logan murmured. "He died... and it would've been my fault."
Patton immediately rushed to him. "No, no, Logan, you couldn't have known," he told him, reaching up to touch his face. "Look! He's fine! Virgil saved him! They're fine and they're together!"
Logan sighed, nodded with a sigh, glancing at the two of them kissing. "Yes, I suppose it did work out..."
His boyfriend pressed a kiss to his lips. "Yes it did," he told him with a smile.
Roman pulled away from their kiss to get to his feet. He offered Virgil a hand and a smile. He blushed, taking it and letting him pull him to his feet. "Come on," he said softly. "Let's go home."
