virgil sighed as he watched the clock, he had plans with logan after school. they were supposed to hang out a little in virgil's pool then go to roman's family cookout anf finally star gaze together. of course, it wasn't a date they were just hanging out. even though, secretly, virgil wished it was, he was happy that he could just hang out with logan.
virgil swore he could have killed thomas for making him do summer school. sitting in a sweaty classroom with five other people he didn't know and a lonely depressed looking teacher was not his ideal summer.
it was partially logan's fault too, saying that, virgil might be behind in certain subjects despite passing, to thomas when summer school applications were being mailed. not that virgil could be mad at him for too long.
he finished the math assignment ten minutes ago and he couldn't have his phone so he was bored. really bored. "okay, kids. hand in the paper if you haven't, you can take your phone and leave. see you all tomorrow." virgil was the first to get up and grab his phone, speed walking towards the front doors of the school where logan should be waiting, hopefully.
once virgil got outside he didn't see logan anywhere. he groaned loudly, pulling his phone out and looking for logan's contact when he felt someone grab his shoulders. he jumped and screamed loudly "looking for someone?" they asked menacingly, well as menacingly as patton could get.
"thank you so much for killing me." virgil growled, trying to calm down from the scare. "did you really need to do that?"
"yes!" patton smiled brightly. "also, your future love couldn't pick you up, he asked me to drop you off at your house and he would be there in thirty minutes." virgil nodded, blushing at patton's nickname for logan.
"well, wanna join me in my pool then? i wasn't going to invite anyone but him over but i can't stand being alone for thirty minutes after that."
"sure! i might not stay for long, roman might wanna hang."

virgil nodded. "that's fine, i mean, the longer alone with logan the better." he joked, blushing bright red.
"yep! you're right! just, don't do anything. okay, mister?" patton smirked, knowing how embarrassed virgil would get.
virgil glared at patton as he got in the seat but didn't say anything, too embarrassed to do so. it took about five minutes to get to his house. patton parked and the two got out of the car, virgil walking up to the door first. he walked in and said, "hello, i hate you, thomas!" he has said that since the first day of summer school.
"there he is!" he heard a shout from the kitchen. thomas walked out into the living room where virgil and patton stood. "you really shouldn't hate me though. logan suggested it, but i understand how hard it is to hate him for you." he winked.
virgil rose his eyebrows and looked at patton, who was stifling a giggle. "you... you told him?" patton laughed and nodded. "that's it! i'm drowning myself in the pool!" virgil exclaimed, walking towards his backyard. once he was outside, he took his shirt off and threw it to the side, along with his phone, then jumped into the pool.
patton giggled and followed him out there, going over to the side of the pool and sitting down at the edge. "stop being so dramatic!"
virgil emerged from the water and swam over to patton. "fight me." he said, getting out of the pool snd sat next to patton. the two went in to get ready, specifically get into proper swimwear and get sunscreen on. by the time they were ready, logan knocked on the door.
thomas got up and answered the door. "hello, logan. come on in, virgil is in the kitchen." he smiled. "oh. hi roman!" thomas left to go back to the couch where he was binge watching steven universe again. logan and roman headed for the kitchen. "i apologize for being late, virgil. me and roman had a debate on something-"
"-and i won!"
"-no you didn't, that is yet to be concluded."

"about what?" virgil asked, hoping off the counter and tossed logan the sunscreen. logan answered with love and virgil scoffed rolling his eyes. "ew." he lied, trying to hide that he was sad. he hoped up on the counter and looked at his friends.
"please, you know you love love!" roman smirked and virgil rolled his eyes putting his head in his hand so he could hide his blush.
"just get ready, i wanna swimmmm" he whined. it took about five minutes then everyone was ready they walked out, virgil deciding to just cannonball into the water first. he got up to the surface and looked over to the diving board where roman was. "rate our dives, v!" roman shouted, smiled. he walked to the edge on bounced a little on the board before cannonballing in.
"hmmm. i'll give you a 5 1/2!" he smiled, once roman got back up to the surface. he gasped, faking offence. patton was up next, he just did a normal dive. "8 but i deduct one point for telling thomas so a 7!" he laughed. patton stuck his tounge out at virgil. logan stepped up on the diving board, quite nervous. virgil looked open and forced his jaw not to drop at logan's six pack- roman didn't even have a six pack! logan ended up doing a really cool flip into the pool, surprising the heck out of virgil. "you get a 9! that was amazing!"
logan blushed. "thanks, i've been practicing." he shrugged.
roman gasped, "virgil! you should dive!" he said excitedly.
virgil thought for a second, and then burst out into laugher. he thought about when he would dive what he would exactly do, and it was hilarious to him. he stopped laughing and turned to roman. "no." he said simply.
______
it was a while later and they were now at roman's cookout. there wasn't tons of people, only roman's family, logan and his parents, patton and his dad and virgil and thomas.
they had a fun time, everyone that is. roman did his best to make sure no one was bored or sad, and did a really good job at it. but now, the evening was coming to an end and people began to leave.
once logan and virgil left, they began to head towards a not so well known cliff. they thought it was always the perfect place to star gaze.
they got there and laid down a blanket, to be comfortable then sat down on it. "i had a ton of fun today." virgil smiled. "roman's cookouts are always so fun though."
logan cleared his throat. "uh, yeah. it was okay." he shrugged. "i-uh." logan froze in the middle of his sentence and decided not to go on.
"what?" virgil looled over to logan. logan immediately looked up at the stars.
"nothing. it doesn't matter."
"tell me."
"no."
"come on. i won't judge you."
"sure you won't."
"stop overthinking the situation, that's my job." virgil put his hand on logan's knee. logan looked down at virgil's hand but said nothing. "come on, logan. you can always tal-"
virgil was cut off when logan finally looked up and kissed him. virgil squeaked in surprise, blushing beet red, as he kissed logan back.
logan stopped kissing virgil and sat back down, blushing also. "i wanted to say i really really really like you, virgil."
virgil smiled wider. "i- uh. really really really like you too." logan smiled and kissed virgil again.
the two spent the rest of the night star gazing and cuddling. virgil and logan could not be more haplier now though.
when virgil finally got back to his house, he walked straight up to thomas's room, digging through his pocket. he shoved thomas awake. "what do you want?" thomas asked and felt something be placed in his hand.
"you won the bet." he shrugged, turning around.
"what bet?" logan asked, glancing between virgil and thomas.
"shh." virgil kissed logan. "you don't need to know." virgil smiled and took logan's hand, leading him to his room.

Build a Dungeon. Slay Heroes. Survive Finals. Wounded Army vet Logan Murray thought mimics were the stuff of board games and dungeon manuals… right up until one ate him. In a flash of snapping teeth, Logan suddenly finds himself on the doorstep to another world. He’s been unwittingly recruited into the Shadowcroft Academy for Dungeons—the most prestigious interdimensional school dedicated to training the monstrous guardians who protect the Tree of Souls from so-called heroes. Heroes who would destroy the universe if it meant a shot at advancement. If he’s going to survive the grueling challenges the academy has in store, he’ll need to ace the odd assortment of classes—Fiendish Fabrication, Dungeon Feng Shui, the Ethics of Murder 101—and learn how to turn his unusual guardian form into an asset instead of a liability.
