"Si no. ¿Si? Entiendo. Gracias, por decirnos." Carmen sighed, hanging up the phone. She turned to her girlfriend with a small frown. "Our flight got canceled, Ives. Looks like we're stuck."
Ivy glanced up, a tiny sheen of sweat on her brow. She was wearing a pair of gym shorts and a sports bra, and was in the middle of her daily workout.
"Oh come on, Carm, it's only for one day. They're giving us a second ticket, right?" She mused, flexing her arm as she lifted a dumbell.
"Yeah, they gave us two one-ways back to San Diego set for tomorrow."
Ivy set her dumbell down, raising an eyebrow at her lover. "So? That means we're good, right? Why do you look upset?"
Carmen sighed, running her hands through her wild waves and gathering them into a messy ponytail at the nape of her neck. "Player said there's some VILE activity in Thailand. We won't be able to make it in time for the mission if our flight's delayed."
Her girlfriend got up and dried herself off with a towel before coming and taking a seat next to the thief. Ivy laced her fingers with Carmen's, massaging warmth back into her icy skin. "Carm, Shadowsan and Zack can take care of it. You know that. What's wrong?"
"I-I don't know...I just...feel like I need to be doing something. I can't let them win, Ivy. Not after how close they came back in Beijing."
Ivy began to trace circles in the Latina's palm, gently rubbing her thumb over her various callouses and injuries that marred her hands. "We just finished a caper, Carm. It's ok to take a break and let someone else do the work for a change."
Carmen shook her head, turning away. She moved her lips as if to respond but no words came out.
"Hey. Look at me." Ivy said, gently tipping Carmen's head to face her. "It's okay, Carmen. They're not here right now. They're not going to hurt you."
Carmen felt her lower lip quiver as she met Ivy's beautiful blue eyes. She let her lids drift to a close and sank into the Bostonian's warm embrace, feeling her strong arms protectively wrap around her. Carmen sighed, settling in the nook of Ivy's shoulder, feeling a warm blanket of comfort wrap around her.
After a few minutes, Ivy carefully separated them. "We're going to relax tonight, alright? Just a fun girls night. We'll watch movies, eat popcorn, order pizza....all that Jazz. Sound good?"

Ivy gave her girlfriend a soft smile, tucking a loose strand of her auburn waves behind her ear and tracing the gentle curve of her cheek. Nothing but love was pooling in her cerulean orbs.
Carmen's lips tugged upwards, and she felt her stress slowly dissipate. She didn't have to be scared with Ivy. Ivy was safe, Ivy was warm. Ivy was home.
"Alright..." She relented with a small grin. "It has been a while since we were able to spend some quality time together."
"What do you mean? We spent a full four hours busting Tigress and her buddies out of those Incan ruins." Ivy smirked, shooting her a wink.
Carmen chuckled in response, tangling her fingers into the redhead's short curls. "I meant without having to think about VILE."
Ivy threw her another wink. "Let me shower real quick and I promise we can have a fun little movie date."
"If you insist..." The Latina smiled, watching as Ivy disappeared into their hotel room's shower.
They had arrived in Peru this week to intervene in VILE's plot to rob a newly discovered Incan Ruin. Tigress and a pair of operatives Carmen hadn't recognized had been there, but luckily Ivy and Carmen managed to thwart their plans.
They ended up back at the hotel to stay the night before going back to HQ, but their flight had been canceled. While she was disappointed at first, the thought of spending a cozy night in with Ivy sounded like a dream. Maybe, Carmen mused. Maybe it's a blessing rather than a curse.
The thief grabbed her phone and searched up for local Pizza places. "Hey, Ivy! Papa Johns or Domino's??"
"Dominoes, no questions asked! Why would you even compare the two?" Ivy shouted back, the thrum of the shower water echoing out.
"Dominoes it is." Carmen laughed, dialing the number. " ¡Hola! ¿Esperaba que pudiéramos pedir una pizza grande? Medio pepperoni y medio vegetal, por favor. ¡Gracias!" The Latina ordered a large pizza, half Veggie for herself and Half pepperoni for Ivy. She gave the employee the address of their hotel and her room number before ending the call.
A few minutes later, her girlfriend popped out of the shower and quickly got dressed in one of her favorite blue tank tops and a pair of grey sweat pants. She grabbed Ice Cream from the mini fridge and plopped down next to Carmen.
"You Order the pizza?" She asked with a grin.
"Yep. What should we watch?"
" Mission Impossible, duh!" Ivy pumped a fist in the air, accidentally dropping the ice cream whilst doing so. "Whoops-"

Carmen caught the container just in time. "Alright, Miss Klutz. Slow your roll. There are like seven of those movies to pick from."
"Nothing's been able to beat the first one for me." Ivy added, shrugging.
"Misio'n Imposible numero uno it is!" Carmen answered.
Ivy snuggled closer to her girlfriend, reaching around in the dark for the remote. Finally finding it, she switched the TV on and begin to navigate the streaming services, pursing her lips and sticking her tongue out.
The movie began to play, it's all too familiar theme spreading through the room as beginning credits began to roll.
"This movie never gets old." Carmen sighed, laying her head down on Ivy's shoulder. Her girlfriend, who was snarfing down the ice cream, slipped her free hand around the thief', snuggling in even closer.
For a while they said nothing, content to cuddle in the dark and watch the movie. Just as the air begin to dip in temperature, Ivy wrapped her arms around Carmen's torso and tugged her close. Her arms encircled the thief's waist, and her head lolled into her shoulder.
As time ticked by, Carmen's worries faded away into oblivion. Being in Ivy's arms made her forget all the bad things and believe that her life held all the sunshine and smiles and warmth she so desperately craved. For the first time in what felt like forever, Carmen was content. She was happy. She was safe. No one had ever made her feel that way. At least, Not like Ivy did.
Carmen turned to her girlfriend with a loving smile, unapologetically gazing at her. After a moment, Ivy turned as well, peppering the sweet skin of her neck with kisses.
"I love you so much." Ivy whispered, smiling against the thief's lips. She tried to fight her grin but to no avail. The redhead's lips captured hers, and Carmen gasped softly, hooking her arm around Ivy's neck. She pulled the other woman closer, a thousand wonderful feelings shooting through her body. Kissing Ivy was like all the slow and sweet things in the world condensed into a promise delivered by her lips.
It felt right. So right.
Tap-Tap, a sound came from the door grabbing the two women's attention.
"Pizza's here!" Ivy said, waggling her eyebrows. Carmen chuckled and planted a kiss on her girlfriend's forehead before separating herself from the bed. She went to answer the door, a relaxed smile forming on her lips.
"¿Pizza para la señorita Elena San Ferdinand?" The devlivery boy said, mentioning one of her many identities--Elena San Ferdinand. He was broad shouldered and tall, yet his face had this young sort of look to it that made Carmen think he couldn't have been older than 17.
"Si, Gracias." Carmen answered with a smile, swiftly paying for the pizza and throwing in an extra tip of 18 Peruvian Solace.
After the transaction was complete, the thief shut the door and brought the pizza in.
Ivy's eyes rounded out to saucers at the sight of the Pizza Box. "Oh...Sweet mother of Jesus." She said, licking her lips in anticipation.
"It any good?" Carmen asked after they found a set of paper plates and divied up the slices.
"Mhm....I mean nothing beats a good slice of Antonio's Pizza but hey, it's still nice on the taste buds." Ivy answered her with a mouthful of food.
"Antonio's?" Carmen asked, placing her chin in er palm.
"Oh yeah, back in me and Zack's neighborhood there was this killer pizza joint. We used to work there actually! The pay wasn't the best but Ant always let us eat there for free. And that was helpful considering...you know...." Ivy gestured at the air, referencing the death of her mother.
Carmen gave Ivy's hand a comforting squeeze, the women trading a glimmer of reassurance with their eyes.
"Anyway..." Ivy continued. "That place was honestly the best but it's location in the poorest part of town didn't exactly draw in a whole lot of customers. Ant had to close Antonio's eventually. His place was bought up by that donut shop where we met, actually."
"Huh. I guess all things are connected." Carmen said with a smile, taking another generous bite.
They spent the rest of the evening in a wonderful bliss, stuffing their faces with all the junk food in the world and following the adventures of Ethan Hunt as he traipsed around the globe in an all too similar fashion to their own travels.
Eventually, they had washed up, sleep beginning to touch their eyelids. Carmen and Ivy May side by side in their bed, legs tangling under the comforter. Ivy had an arm protectively splayed over the Latina's midsection, her fist curling in to brush Carmen's chest.
(Omg big spoon Ivy I canttt)
"Ivy?"
"Mhm?" The redhead hummed.
"Thank you for this." Carmen whispered with a soft smile.
"Yer...wel...Zzzz." Ivy sleepily answered, tugging her girlfriend closer to her own body.
They fell asleep like that-wrapped in each other's arms with a buzz of happiness in the air.
"Night, Ivy." Carmen whispered sweetly before she too, sank away into oblivion.

The Painter: A fantasy psych thriller and epic
*** June 21th Update ***- New chapters are being posted! I haven't figured out a schedule yet, but stay tuned!- Thank you to everyone who has read and reviewed, I'm happy to say The Painter is in the top 200 best-rated fictions. - Readers of The Painter have suggested reading through Chapter 6 before making a decision on this book.- The story takes place in the Lootverse, but you don't need a canonical understanding to appreciate the storyFinally, a warning or reader beware: This is not an action novel (despite the coming fight scene) but a slow-burn psychological thriller of sorts. For a time, the Painter's life was simple. He lived in the small town of Kinon (called Kinney by locals) with his wife, Kahriah and his son, Thesdon. The story begins with him alone and unable to travel more than a few hundred miles from his home. For 5 years he tried to chart his prison until one day a letter appears with a mysterious commission that will see him test his condition and his boundary. Set roughly 50 years before the impending end of days (from Loot canon), The Painter is a story about loss, grit, and exploration of a seemingly normal man in a world of magic and monsters. The Painter will follow the man on his adventure to restore his family, uncover his commissioners and discover the nature of his condition. Loot is the decentralized, global, community built fantasy world based on Dom Hoffman's art/tech experiment: Loot. Fun fact: The cover of our book is painted by the artist, who the MC is loosely based on and the same person painting the Banners (digitally) IRL for an art/worldbuilding project.
