19) least favorite character
Listen...if I have to go the easy route it would be Orochimaru. Because yeah no thanks ☠️ now that I think about it, I have never made a Orochimaru oneshot bEcAUsE I am too uncomfortable writing about him.
Please tell me I'm not the only one who just thinks "ew" when I think of him, like I have no actual reasons...just...eww.
Who do you guys like the least? Who doesn't like Naruto even if he's the main character? I need that tea lol.
Oh! And this oneshot is super fluffy by the way.
Mkay,
Bye bye, lovelies~

You were basically raised to work for people that were in a higher class than you. Ever since you were little; walking around with your mother as she helped Fourth Kazekage Rasa; saying goodbye to your father when he was a valuable messenger. You always thought that it was your job for the Kazekage to be comfortable and keeping all important records.
Until Rasa died, and your family was left in shambles. Without a Kage, you and your parents weren't able to have a supportive job. The only option left for you that was in your blood? Become a shinobi. So that's what you did.
Panting softly, you were staring at the red painted target on to the sand bricks. Being a chunin was the perfect balance for you. No longer were you a small, pathetic child. You had a purpose other than taking care of someone.
"Y/n?" Your mother called out from inside, the kunai in your hand being placed back in to its pouch. "Yes?" you answered her in a curious tone, your body leading you inside.
"Great news! Gaara is becoming the new fifth Kazekage! Now we can have our normal jobs back...think about it!" you could hear her scream, cheering and hugging her pet cat/dog Mushroom to her chest. Your heart sunk into your chest, a fake smile going on your face.
Placing your hand on her shoulder, you made the smile wider. "That's amazing mother...but I have a full week of missions ahead, so I can't work under him with you-" you were saying, only to see the hostile look upon the woman's face. "You're telling me..." she told you, leaning in on her eyebrows, "You WON'T? What I say in this house is final, so no more missions until I hear from Gaara himself you would rather be a fine shinobi!" your mother yelled softly, your eyes enlarging.
You've never seen her this upset. "But!-" you were about to proclaim, only to shut it again.
"You promise that you'll let me stay a shinobi if he says I'm better off being a fighter?" you quoted, her head bobbing.
A deal was a deal.

It was already sunrise when you walked into the building in which the old men of the council were in. Almost everyone in the town knew they were always watching the town, but more specifically the jinchuri. The air felt tense when you opened the door, revealing two of the counselor men: Baki and Ikanago.
"Y/n? What are you doing here?" you heard Baki's deep voice say, your head tilting slightly up to see him. All eyes pierced your skin as you gulped, the sweat in your neck feeling gross.
"I-I came here to become the Kazekage's secretary. I know this place is anxious of him snapping out at the town. If I take this job, not only could I help him getting used to his new life, but also protect the town in case he snaps. It's been a family tradition, after all..."

Next to the man with wrapping all over his face, Ikanago nodded slowly, smiling. "I like the way this girl speaks! Let's discuss about this with the other gentlemen, Baki." he told him, Baki's usual tense face relaxing for a quick second. The two of them walked away from you, leaving you to wait.

Gaara sat in his office all alone. It was still, and surprisingly chilly thanks the AC they installed inside of the building. Temari and Kankuro were both busy dealing with gate keeping, and any other problems in Suna. His door cranked open, freezing up as he waited for the person to reveal themselves.
"I don't think you remember me, but I'm Y/n L/n." you said, peeking your head in with a small smile. "May I come in?"
Relaxing his shoulders, his eyes gazed softly at you while he nodded, your whole body stepping inside as well. "I do remember you...I saw you playing with Temari before. And that your mother was an assistant for the previous Kazekage..." he said smoothly, your eyes widening. Never did you expect the jinchuri to remember you.
Nodding, the smile on your non-dimpled/dimpled cheeks expanded. "What an honor for you to remember me," you said, bowing in respect, "however I'm not here to only talk. I have been nominated by the senior council of Suna to become your personal assistant. This means I will take any order from you, including risking my life for you." Gaara stood up, bowing as well.
"Then I respect their choice. They don't trust me, do they?" he asked you in a soft murmured, looking over towards the window. Gulping, your stood up straight. "I cannot give you a clear answer, sir. But....I have my opinions upon their trust in you, sir." Looking back at you, he frowned. '
"Please, call me Gaara instead, no formalities are necessary."

By the time you were able to go home, it was late. You had to stay up as long as Gaara did, and you didn't do much seeing how he was independent. This job kind of sucked. You missed the action....that sensation of happiness whenever you helped a poor village or something.
Opening the door, you turned on the lights of the room to reveal your mother sleeping on the couch and snoring away. "Great....I'm too tired to even eat-" you whispered, going towards your bedroom. Having this job would mean you were going to go through VERY long night shifts.
Meanwhile, Gaara was greeted home by Temari's cooking in the air, alongside the smell of freshly cut wood not to far away in Kankuro's room. "Temari?" he called out, her footsteps walking towards him.
"So, I heard Y/n is your assistant. Tell me, you are you alright with that?" she asked, raising an eyebrow. He shrugged, taking off the thick white coat and hat on to the hat rack. Kana came rushing inside, holding what seemed to be like a kunai with poison.
"I heard she's kinda cute. You wouldn't mind if I sweep her off her feet would he?" Kankuro said in a rather teasing matter, which Temari made a smart comeback to him. "No, because you haven't even dated someone before." she told him, the look on his face embarrassed. But while they were arguing, Gaara had one memory stuck in his head about the young h/c.

Sandcastles. For some reason, Temari and Kankuro were both amazed at the way he made them with his ability to move sand. Gaara was only around four or five, enjoying the time he had with his siblings. "Hey, maybe you should make a turd this time!" Kankuro shouted at him, his older sister rolling her eyes at him.
In the distance, Gaara was able to sense their father. The soft foot steps, the way he could feel the tense air. Glancing over at where he sensed it, his eyes caught another body not to far away.
Behind a dark brown pillar, a short/tall female with h/c stood in the dark, her eyes widening when his eyes caught hers. She smiled, waving at him with her small hand. Gaara waved back, his smile rising. But soon, she ran away, and his father had spoken up to look down at the red head with shame.
"Temari, Kankuro."
His two siblings walked away, instead of that short smile it was a lonesome frown. All he could play with...was the sand.

"You look tired today, Gaara. Did something happen?" you asked, pouring him a cup of green tea. The Kazekage stared into your eyes like usual....no where else.
He was focused on every inch of your face; it was like you were a masterpiece that even he couldn't look away from.
"Um....Kazekage..." you said, staring back at him. Realizing he was staring, Gaara looked away and down at his tea. "Thank you." he mumbled, taking a sip already from the hot substance. Bowing, you grabbed the tray.
"Please, no need to thank me. It's my job." you replied, walking out of the room to place the tray for the kitchen. Though, this time, the Kazekage stood up too. "Gaara?" you said, noticing him walking next to you. "I apologize...I needed to stretch my legs." he told you, you cheeks flushing as you felt your shoulders touching gently.
Nodding, along with a gentle hum, you stayed quiet. Nearly five months have passed by of working under him, taking errands out like informing gatekeepers about something, organizing his documents for him. During that time, the two of you enjoyed talking about all kinds of things. For instance, how the Senior Council was like.
It seemed like an actual friendship had finally began to grow.
Maybe even something more....
Once the kitchen door was in sight, you asked Gaara to wait outside for you. Placing the tray back, your eyes caught the chef who cooked for Gaara personally.
"Ah, look who it is!" he exclaimed, your laughter filling the room. "Good evening." you greeted him politely, his grin appearing to notice the whole tray was empty. "Did he enjoy the tea?" he asked. "Yes, he did." you said, heading towards the door.
Outside the door, it seemed Gaara was talking to someone. "Kankuro?" you called out quietly, his head turning towards you. "She's even more cuter than I remember!" he said, boldly as he smirked at you. The Kazekage watched as your face heated up, something surging in his stomach.
"Well, let's go. It was nice talking to you, brother-" he said in hurried voice, grabbing your hand and dragging you away. The blush on your cheeks became as red as his hair, to flustered to say anything. Staring down at your hand in his was all you could do.
Once you guys reached the office, he shut the door a bit louder than usual. Gaara released your hand, which to him was soft and delicate.
"Um...Gaara..." you asked, biting your lip as you watched his back. His broad shoulders relaxed as he turned around in front of you. "Yes?" he asked, raising an non-existent eyebrow. "Are you okay? You seemed upset back there- if I did anything-" you were saying, only to feel firm grip of his large hand on your shoulder.
His sea green eyes looked into yours, the beat of your heart going faster. "-You didn't. I was just annoyed by him, is all." the Kazekage told you, going back to his chair. Zoning out for a second, you snapped out, looking back over to him and his desk while he did paperwork.
"R-Right, Kazekage."
+
Another late night shift. As the sand was brushing against each building due to the wind, Gaara was still checking documents and other things. Sometimes you wondered how he did it. You, on the other hand, had been assigned to double check each treaty. If something seemed off, you were to inform him immediately about it. Then and only then, it would be necessary to speak with the council.
Slowly, and slowly, you felt yourself falling asleep...
"Y/n-" Gaara said, looking up at a paper. His eyes widened to see you had fallen asleep, your hair over your face slightly as you breathed in ever so slowly. Charmingly smiling, he chuckled quietly, standing up from his seat. He guess that he need to get some rest too.
Slowly, his arms picked you up like a light feather, your head resting upon his hard chest. In your sleep, you snuggled up against him, his eyes enlarging while he blushed. Walking out the office, he didn't know what to do with you. Never would he attempt to do anything wrong, especially when you were vulnerable in your sleep. At the same time, he couldn't help but feel a tiny urge to....
"Gaara."
Looking down at you once you whispered his name, he stopped walking. Were you awake? Not to sure, he continued walking anyways.
Eventually, Gaara somehow managed to get to his living quarters without Temari and Kankuro noticing. he made it to his bedroom, looking around to see if any extra blankets could be used for him to use to sleep in. But clearly there weren't, so he decided to just go sleep on the couch in the living room.
Trying to lay you down on his mattress, you hold on him was strong. Trying to pry you away in the kindest way he could, he failed.
He came to a decision of just laying down with you on his bed. Laying down properly on the bed, your body rested slightly on top of him while your legs wrapped around his. Gaara leaned forwards to place a light kiss upon your temple.
"Goodnight, my assistant." he mumbled, closing his eyes as he brought you closer to him. Instead of staying awake in his bed this time, since you were around him you soothed him to sleep.
And the night was silent.

8 232Living as a Demon
Jonathan was living the life of a normal human male in modern-day society, until he was rudely awakened one night by a summoning circle that ripped him out of his reality and dumped him into a new world filled with magic, demons, and…mouthy young orphan girls?! Now Jonathan must navigate the trials of playing guardian to a preteen, learning to unlock his inner demon, and somehow managing to find a dang pair of pants! Welcome! I'm E.O. Tenkey; thank you for considering Living as a Demon, my third released work here on Royal Road (following Not a Manga and Mr. Familiar)! Let's set some expectations, shall we? • Not much hard profanity (chapter 1 is the exception!)• Human MC! Our protagonist is a bona fide homo sapiens. Which is not to say there won't be demons, demonic powers, and what-have-you, but this isn't some grimdark exploration of the life and times of a nihilistic, amoral killing machine.• Slice of life. My previous works always ended up there, so might as well get ahead of the curve!• Weekly updates, and a completed story: I will post a single chapter per week on Wednesdays until the story is complete (extra chapters are rare, but do happen).
