《naruto character one shots》Amnesia {Naruto Uzumaki}

If you could explain how you felt in one word, it would definitely be -desperate.
You had been branded with a curse mark almost a year ago leaving you with no choice but to leave behind your village to live in isolation, and at least look for someone with a reverse jutsu.
To protect your friends and family, you unfortunately resorted to a most extreme method. You knew you couldn't leave the village, especially after Sasuke and his betrayal. You would never cause so much pain in the hearts of those you held so dear, especially Naruto. Him being your best friend, you could never put him through another loss like that again. After all, you were all he had left.
Your clan specializes in secret ninjutsu, you have the power to control the mind and body. Similar to the Nara clan's shadow possession and the Yamanaka mind transfer justsu. Except your power was a little more extreme; being able to enter into the depths of a persons mind simply by touching them is a serious skill to have, along with having then wrapped around your finger to obey any command you give them. You alone possessed the so called "gift", although you always referred to it as a curse, to mimic memories. Meaning you could remove memories from the human brain, and you could also add, replace, or tweak memories. So, you thought it best that if you were to leave the village, why not just erase their memories, only the ones of you.
This was a power difficult to hone, so when you used this justu there was the slight possibility of not completing it thoroughly. It also came with a nasty headache so you weren't always able to do a "double check", making sure nothing was left behind. And unfortunately, although with this unique jutsu you could remove memories, you could not remove any feelings any of your friends or family could have felt for you. So when you came back to the Leaf, months later after having found a ninja knowing a reverse jutsu, you realized your mistake.
Upon your returning, your parents acted like two completely different people. Not just because they weren't aware they had a daughter, they were just overall not the same people. And Naruto, his case was just bizarre. The first day you got back from home, you walked by Naruto. Completely fighting back the urge to run up to him or at least acknowledge him, you noticed out of the corner of your eye, his head turn to look at you for several seconds, as if he recognized you, which would be impossible right?

As you began to rebuild your friendships, meeting your friends all over again, something with Naruto was still different. He had once called you by a nickname he came up with when you two were in the academy. It was Lily. Your name isnt even remotely close to Lily, but he always called you that because it was your favorite flower, and you would always wear it's blossom in your hair. There was no way he could have remembered that, but it slipped out one day, leaving you in shock and he only said 'I just felt like that was the right thing to call you' when you asked him where the idea came from.
Naruto always seemed so confused, constantly staring at you trying to pin point how he knows you. The way he behaved made you regret what you did more and more each day. And the longer you spent time with your old buddy, he could tell something was wrong. He knew all these things about you, he had these thoughts, these memories which to him were mere dreams. But they weren't dreams, they were memories he wrote off as dreams because there was no way he had physically experienced them.
He would tell you about a dream he recalled having about you, how you both said you were going to become jounin together and move in together and have the lives you both longed to have with each other. This was something you said to him a week before you left, and the day before you left you had confessed your love to him, which he happily returned.
He was beginning to stress out, being so puzzled and confused, desperate to reach outside of the confines of his mind, his soul. Where he knew, he was absolutely sure he knew you. He just didn't have the mental proof. He would never get those memories back, they had dissolved into thin air, evaporating into nowhere. And there was nothing you could to change that, no matter how desperate you were to do anything to go back in time.
As you sat next to him, he had his usual glassy eyes daze on his face, as if he were trying to work out an impossible problem but got sidetracked, thinking about anything and everything but the problem at hand. His content focus had his eyebrows drawn together, and still that desperate look on his face. Why desperation?

He couldn't fathom the way he was feeling into words. The simplest way he would put it, whenever you asked what's wrong, would be 'I just feel like I forgot something.' Or 'I miss something that I don't think I ever even had'. Thinking back to the reason you did this to him, you felt like slapping yourself ten times over. You didn't just want to up and out disappear on him, making him experience a loss all over again. But what you did to him instead was worse. You made him this way, and there's no way of undoing what you did. Now he may not remember you, but he still knows you. Not necessarily you, but someone. Someone who supposed to have been there forever, but only appeared now.
"It's like torture." He mumbled, startling you back to reality. "Why did you do this to me? Huh? Your clan specializes with mental jutsu and you have the power to screw with memories!"
You stood up, shocked. How had he figured it out? Before you could even answer, his rant continued.
"All this time I've been wondering what was wrong with me. Scratching at the floor inside my mind looking for you. But you aren't there. It's just a vacant lot, all that's left is the air you breathed. I've been pulling at my hair, trying to figure out why your voice sounded so familiar to me. But all this time, you knew me. And I knew you. But you're the reason I've been this way. How could you do this to me, dammit!?" He grabbed a fist full of your shirt, forcing you to look at him.
He has never been this way towards you, but you're the one who made him this way.
"Look. I can explain. I promise. I know you don't like me but-"
He cut you off. "I don't like you?" He asked incredulously.
You put your hands up in front of your chest in surrender, not that that would do anything about his sudden new angry demeanor.
"Alright. I get that you hate me-" you began, using a harsher word to describe the way you thought he felt towards you, now that everything began to unfold before him.
"Hate you? Name, I can't think about anything or anyone else." He whispered, running his hands through his hair to prevent him from doing something irrational.
"Please listen to me, Naruto. I understand that-" He cut you off again.
"I love you." He said, as-a-matter-of-factly.
He took a step closer to you, an agonizingly confused expression on his face.
"I love you every second of every day, and I don't understand why or how to make it stop-"
"Stop it." You said, tears prickling at your eyes, threatening to spill.
"I know it's wrong. And I feel like I'm sick. And it tears at me that I feel this way without being conscious of the reason behind it." "Look at me." He commanded.
Your eyes met his blue eyes, as blue as the sky. The way they always were. And for a split second that usual twinkle, that glimmer of positivity was there. You eyes traveled down his face to the whisker shaped marks etched into his skin. Right down to his lips, begging for you to look at him, and never break that gaze.
"Name, I love you. Please tell me this is only amnesia and I'll remember you tomorrow. I'm not crazy just... Please tell me-"
You brushed your lips against his to stop him from his speech. It was such a hard, passionate kiss. You put every feeling, both negative and positive, into it, grabbing onto both the sides of his face. He pulled you as close to his body as physically manageable and he was giving you his all. Even after everything you had done to him. He still remembered that he loved you. You. And you only.
As you two broke away you were able to mumble against his lips "I promise you we'll find a way to fix this." before being pulled back into his embrace, invited in by his warm lips, desperate to cling to yours.
You were right. You were going to fix this, and you would spend every waking moment doing everything in your power to make it up to the one you love, for taking his one and only away.
