I wake up with a burst of energy today and decide to get ready even though it's still fairly early. I take a refreshing shower, brush my teeth and apply a face mask as I do my hair. After getting ready I head down to the commons to see if anyone else is up. No one. I huff. I make my way to the great hall alone and take in the scenery. December has finally arrived and with December comes the winter ball. I still don't know who my date is going to be, the only possible suitor is Cedric. I think. Maybe not even him, oh Merlin.
I finally arrive at the great hall and see Blaise, Crabbe, and Goyle all siting together enjoying their breakfast.
"Hey guys, how've y'all been?" I ask taking a seat across from the boys.
"Hey Y/n" they all say in unison letting out a laugh.
I scoop some hashbrowns on my plate alongside my fluffy eggs while pouring myself some milk.
"So, do you guys have a date to the ball yet?" I ask picking at my eggs.
Goyle looks up from his plate. "I asked Millicent the other day and she accepted" he responds with a cheeky smile.
"As in Millicent Bulstrode?" I query.
"Yup". Hm, she's a little too rude for my liking, but Goyle's happy so I'm fine with it.
"And you Crabbe?"
"Nothing yet" he responds taking bite out of his chocolate muffin.
"Alright enough about us, what about you?" Blaise asks leaning in, eager for my response.
I lean in as well for the dramatic effect. "No one" I whisper letting out a chuckle.
Blaise moves back and settles back in his chair. "Ha ha very funny Y/n".

"I'm not joking! No ones asked me yet. It's fine though, the balls overrated" I add crossing my arms.
"W-What about Draco" he stammers.
What about it? Wait, did Draco tell him we- no he couldn't have. "What do you mean?" I ask innocently looking down at my food.
"Well, he doesn't have a date, maybe you two should go together?" he continues. Thank Merlin he doesn't know about the kiss.
"Hm, that's intriguing. I wouldn't ask him though, but if for some reason he asked me I wouldn't say no" I respond with a slight smile.
After breakfast I go to my room to grab my bag and then walk over to my first class, DADA . I walk into class seeing that Draco is already there and take my seat beside him.
I greet Draco as I place my bag down beside me. "Hey Draco".
"Hey" he respond lowly focused on his doodle.
I start thinking about what Blaise said earlier at breakfast about me and Draco. I honestly think going to the ball with him would be fun, I'd have to force him to dance with me, but It'd be worth it to see him smile and have a good time.
"Helloo" Draco says as he moves his hand back and forth in front of my face.
Op- must have zoned out. "Y-Yes?" I respond returning back to reality.
"I asked if you knew how to do the third problem".
"I don't know let me take a look"
Class flew by since Lupin wasn't there today, probably taking a personal day or something. Draco and I decide to do homework together after class so we walk on over to the library as we chat about our day. Well, really just me, he just listens and nods every so often to show that he's following along. I notice he's not being a total git today which is nice, normally I couldn't talk to him about my day without him making some snarky remark but he seemed quiet today, like something was on his mind.

"Draco are you alr-".
"Y/n!"
I see Luna skipping over to join my side coming out from the courtyard that lies up ahead.
"Luna! How are you?" I query with a smile.
"Just fine" she say softly. "I just came over to tell you that Cedric was looking for you, he's over by the courtyard" she adds point up ahead.
"Wait you and Ced are friends? How did I not know this?!" I ask looking at her surprised.
"Well not necessarily, but he knew that we're friends".
I can sense Draco tense up, I turn to my right facing him. "I'll only be a minute, I'll meet you in the library" I announce sweetly sending him a reassuring smile as I place my hand on his arm. But before I can get a nod or response from him Luna whisks me away by taking my arm in hers as she streams me along to the courtyard.
"Any idea of what this's about?" I ask noticing a cheesy smile forming on her face.
"You'll see".
We finally arrive at the entrance of the courtyard and I gasp putting my hand over my mouth in disbelief. In the center of the courtyard I see rosy cheeked Cedric holding a giant teddy bear and a sign that reads 'this ball would be unbearable without you. Join me?'. This is so cheesy, I love it. As I walk up to him his Hufflepuff friends start to disperse.
"So?" he asks giggling softly.
"Hmmm, I don't know I'd have to sleep on it" I respond as seriously as I can trying not to blow my cover.
"Oh shut it" he says playfully rolling his eyes as he places the sign and the bear down to wrap me into a warm embrace.
"Of course" I add pecking his rosy cheek.
He slowly wraps me out of our embrace. "Should we discuss the details now or.." he asks clearly eager to start planning.
"Um well, I actually have plans right now that I should get back to, but we'll definitely discuss this soon" I announce giving him a reassuring smile.
"Alright then, later. Here's your poster and bear." he says handing me the poster in one hand while placing the giant bear in my other. "Can't wait to hear what you name the bear, see ya soon" Cedric says as he goes back to rejoin his friends, who all cheer and tease him playfully.
This ball will definitely be one to remember, I think to myself with a smile.
I turn around to join Draco back at the library where I told him I'd meet him and notice him standing in the hall from which I just came from, he looks hurt, betrayed even.
"Draco i-"
"Save it." he says coldly as he walks down the hall swiftly.
Shit.

The Stormcrow Cycle
Once a powerful and lauded witch, Ba'an salu-Ba'an now lives alone in a cave in the desert, waiting to die. When she rescues an outlander from certain death she becomes embroiled in a deadly game of politics and empire, of heart and soul, but worst of all--of hope and love and a chance at a peaceful future. Can a disgraced witch find a reason to live her life again--and if so, what price must she pay? The Stormcrow Cycle is a trilogy comprising of The Exile, The Lion, and Abomination. Tags or genres for each book: The Exile: romance, slice-of-life The Lion: romance, slice-of-life, politics Abomination: tragedy, high/epic fantasy (aka "Everything is on fire!") Updates once a week whenever I have time. Cross-posted on Wattpad and Scribble Hub. The CBMokedi cover will return! Excerpt: She looked down at him again. Young. Healthy, from what she could see, except for the wound that was killing him. He was handsome in a way that suggested a life of wealth and plenty. She did not think he had ever starved. Someone important. Her shadow fell across him, and he frowned. Blearily, he opened his eyes. They were amber and bright, even as he lay dying in the dirt. She could feel his soul, blazing inside of him like a fire refusing to die even as his body began to fail. He met her gaze, eyes widening in what she guessed was surprise—or shock. But he never looked away, staring up at her as though transfixed. Ba’an made her decision. She raised her hand and covered his eyes. In another moment, a murder of crows cawed as they took wing. The man and woman were gone from the road, leaving only the dead staring up into the sky. Note: This is a high-fantasy set in a low-magic world. The first book is largely character-driven and we really only hit the real plot in Book II, so if you're not fond of long epic yarns you ought to skip this one. I also don't include trigger warnings, but mind the "traumatizing content" tag--all societies minus one practice slavery and the world is indeed, rather grim!
