I gulped -Yes, gulped- and stood shakily to my feet. He started to head towards me, so I quickly walked over to the counter, giving Luna a warning look. She glanced behind me casually, staring at him for a moment before blinking and taking a step back.
"Oh, shit," She muttered.
It wasn't that I was afraid of Sam, per say. After all, he was the one that gave me money to start out with, and convinced them to let me go in the first place. Without him I might still be in the institution, mute and having twice as many hallucinations as I am now.
He walked up to the counter, leaning on the shelf and sending us a smile I didn't know how to interpret. "Luna, Alexxa," He greeted. "I'm here for my half month checkup. . . It seems you're doing exceptional, Alexxa."
I nodded, not really trusting myself to speak at the moment. "Yeah," I muttered, voice raspy.
He cocked a brow. "Is there a place we can speak?"
She looked around at the crowd. "Right here is fine, Samuel." Her voice was emotionless- It seemed she still wasn't over our last experience with him.
He caused the hallucinations.
He swallowed, nodding stiffly and pulling over a stool. I sat down next to Luna behind the counter, chewing on the corner of my lip and trying not to play with the lip stud embedded in my flesh. Sam ran a hand through his black hair- Which wasn't gelled this time- and pulled out a cigarette.
"Do you mind?" He asked Luna.
She shrugged, which I took as my cue to take out my own. A new brand was being sold at the gas station, called Pink Elephant. They're vanilla flavored, and taste like heaven. Sam eyed me as I lit it, but I could hardly care less.
"So, you speak now." He said it more as a statement than a question. I nodded, not responding. "How did this happen?"
I shrugged. "It just . . . Did."
"She was sticking up for Gabriel." Luna let out an eye roll.
"Your boyfriend?"
Annoyed, I let out a puff of smoke. "For Christ's sake, he isn't my boyfriend." I grumbled.
She leaned over, smiling and pecking my cheek. "She's just a little upset he's dating her friend, is all. Don't take it personal."
I glared at her. She shrugged her shoulders, giving me a 'well-it's-true' look and glancing back at Sam. He tapped his fingers on the table, pulling out a sheet of paper. "Does this mean you'll give me information?"
I bit the inside of my cheek. "Depends on what it is." I said.
He took a sip of the coffee she had laid out on the table for him. "We'll start simple- Your name?"
Showing no expression, I looked into his brown eyes. "Alexxa Ward."
He sighed. "Bullshit."
I showed nothing. "Sorry."
He sighed, looking down his paper. "Date of birth?"
I didn't have to lie on this one- Millions of people shared my birthday. "The 17th of August."

"Year?"
"1995."
He smiled stiffly. "So that isn't a lie, then?" I shook my head, playing with my fingers. "Do you have any relatives?"
I nodded.
"From the information we had gathered upon finding you, Alexxa, you had a brother. Is that correct?"
I felt tears well up into my vision and bobbed my head again. Chris. . .
He was so perfect. The way he told me stories could make me cry. I yearned for him to speak to me once again. to tell a tale from his mind. Even listening unknown from the other wall would suffice, as he could make me feel apart of the conversation even when nobody knew I was there.
"And you also had two parents- Married. Someone named Alexxa and Marion?"
"Stop, please." I whispered, wiping tears from my face. Doesn't he know when it gets too far?
He just pressed on. "Which means, based off your date of birth and family members, you're the only daughter of the wed couple, which makes you R-"
"Stop it!" I yelled.
The cafe went silent. I ran a hand through my hair, pleading with myself that it wouldn't happen again. Tears streaming down my cheeks, I took in ragged breaths, spots clouding my vision and a dull drone ringing in my ears. Luna looked panicked, while Sam had a satisfied expression on his face.
I could see the blood running down my arms, limbs falling onto the counter top. My parents were suddenly in front of me, holding knives and slicing crescents in my hands. I screamed, pushing them away, but everyone that could've helped me was gone. It was just me and my parents, who were trying to kill me.
They advanced towards me slowly, eyes gouged out and smiles carved into their lips. I held my hands up over my face to shield myself from their knives, but when I reached them towards my eyes, my hands weren't there. Instead, bloody stubs replaced palms, chunks of flesh falling onto the wood floor.
"L-leave me alone!" I managed, crying out in pain and falling onto the floor. They lifted me up, pinning me to the table and tying something around my chest. I squirmed, sobbing now, and kicked my legs. Teeth rolled out of my mouth and blood spattered onto them, but they were so disembodied that it just blended in with their skin - or what was left of it.
They had no eyes, and their lips were cut into hanging chunks. Scars covered their foreheads, hair cut off in places. Their ears were gone, which I soon realized were used to stuff my mouth, and the tip of my mother's nose was gone. My father's fingers were stapled to his face, forming an upside down cross.
I shuddered, a spurt of vomit coming out of my breath. "P-please," I stammered, heaving now. The ear fell from my mouth and onto the ground, watching in horror as my father took a knife out. Tracing his face with it, he pulled it off his bones, a bloody mess replacing the once warm features I felt I knew. My breathing was loud and forced, now, as I slid back as far as I could on the table, only to hit my mother.
She took her hands and placed them on my ears, pressing my head down onto the soft wood with a chuckle. I screamed as the warm, dripping flesh was placed over my skin, making me sink into darkness.

A soft pressure on my left hand brought me from my haze. I felt a piercing light hurt my eyelids, almost as if I was hungover again, and rolled over as to escape it. A sigh escaped my lips as a cool, light feeling washed over me, making me snuggle deeper into what appeared as a pillow.
The hand left mine abruptly in sync with my eyes opening. The first thing I noticed was the sky next to me, only a few feet a way. The clouds were close, and looked animated, a little boy flying a kite underneath it.
Hold up.
That kite wasn't moving.
"What the fu-"
"Good morning, Miss Ward." A voice said cheerfully. I sat up abruptly, only to hiss in pain as something popped out of my right arm.
"Jesus," I hissed. "How drunk was I?"
She laughed, red hair falling in her face. She looked to be about twenty five or so, and walked over, gently nudging someone aside. I didn't check to see who it was, too focused on the fact that something had been injected into my skin.
Here's the thing. I hate needles. They were never a problem before my family's suicides, but since they had used needles in my hallucinations, I've been scarred by them. So, naturally, I teared up like an idiot. "W-what is that?" I asked quietly, shifting away.
"Just some fluids, don't worry." Brushing a strand of hair out of my face, she attempted to distract me by talking about some of the other patients who had the same fear of me.
It was then that I caught a pair of blue eyes. "Gabriel?" I muttered, searching his face. Wasn't he supposed to be on a date? And where the hell am I?
"Hey, Trouble." He said quietly, looking down at the floor.
I chewed the inside of my cheek. "Just to get this straight- Where the hell am I?"
The lady just chuckled. I let out a small scream as a prick went through my arm, and squeezed my eyes shut, willing these memories not to come back again. A hand found mine again, safe and warm, and intertwined our fingers. "You're in the hospital, babes," the lady said. "You passed out a few hours ago."
I let out a deep breath, opening them and looking over to Gabriel again. "Where's Kira?" I asked, a little confused.
He swallowed, running his free hand through his dark hair. "Getting food with Luna. They'll be back in any minute."
I nodded, sitting up and cringing at the hallucination. That was worse than the others- It felt like I was living in the hallucination, like they would come out at any moment with fingers made into crosses and bleeding eyes.
It brought me into another panic, my eyes darting around the hospital room. Gabriel's hand squeezed mine and he got my attention just as the nurse left. "What happened?"
I shrugged, playing it safe. The less he knew about me, the better, as he already thinks i'm a freak enough. "I don't know," I lied through my teeth, guilt eating away at my insides.
"You know you can trust me, right?" His tone was soft, not pressuring me at all. I nodded again, sending him a forced smile before laying my head down on the pillow.
I yawned. "I'm tired," I commented quietly. "When can we leave?"
He put one jean-clad knee to his chest. "I don't know," he remarked. "Want me to stay the night?"
I shook my head. "You weren't going to. . . remember?" I attempted to hide the disappointment in my voice, but even I could tell it was there.
"I mean, if you want me to. . ." His voice trailed off as Luna walked back inside, Kira right behind her. Sam closed the door, holding the clipboard in his hands. She let out a sigh of relief as she saw me, kissing my forehead and pulling me into a loose hug. I dropped his hand, patting her back and letting her go so Kira could peck my cheek.
"Shortie," She whined. "You scared the shit out of me."
I smiled weakly, watching her sit down next to Gabriel. She blushed , laying her head on his shoulder. I looked away at Luna and Sam. "Hey, Sam." I muttered.
He sat down on the edge of the bed. "Hey." He greeted, tone solemn. "Um, guys?" He glanced at the two teenagers next to me, talking about something quietly. They immediately went quiet, staring at him as if he had four eyes.
"I'm going to need to talk to Alexxa alone."
Those 9 words made my heart stop. I knew exactly what it was about, and it scared me half to death. Gabriel shook his head, but I made him stand, motioning for him to leave. He took Kira's elbow lightly, tugging her out with him.
I sat up, crossing my legs under me and looking up at the man. "What is it?" I asked, biting my lip.
He sighed. "Alexxa, we know about your past hallucinations, and the reason we let you out was because we believed you were cured of them. I want you to be honest with me- Was that a hallucination?"
"So what if it was?" I spat, angered all of a sudden. "You're the one who triggered it!"
"All I wanted to know was your past," he said gently.
I rolled my eyes, resisting the urge to snort. "That's what makes it happen! I won't tell you my name because I don't want to be the same girl anymore. Can you just leave me be to start over, or do you like torturing me that much?"
He was silent. "Alexxa," He looked into my eyes. "If you have another hallucination, I have no choice but to take you back to the institution."

Go on, hoes. Cry.
I know I did ;-;
Do people recognize Sam now that's all cleared up?
I have a questionaaree! I don't know who reads this with the exception of Sofia and a couple others, so everyone who answers.... I love youuu C:
1) What do you think her real name is?
2) How do you feel about Kirieal? (Gabriel + Kira)
I kind of also wanted to clear something up. I got a private message asking about how this story even makes the smallest sense. Well, number one, fuck you . I like writing it. But to clear up your questions.
People didnt know she was in the mental hospital because they couldnt confirm who she was without her verbally telling them. In some places, they do that so it's not like they're framing someone or something. So on the news and stuff, they would put, "Unknown person sent to .. " Get it? Good.
Now stop insulting this story.

The Lady's Handbook of Intrigue and Murder (High Fantasy Politics)
Summary:The daughter of a dying house is summoned to the Imperial City to meet and perhaps marry a handsome prince. It sounds like a fairy tale. Except Mydea doesn’t have the advantage of a half-forgotten childhood encounter, supreme magic to match the highest echelons of society, or even the privilege of an ally. In order to survive and make a name for herself, she must beat the Imperial Court at its own game. At least no one's tried to kill her—yet. Notes: Basically, if you liked the magic of Harry Potter and the politics of Game of Thrones, you'll probably like this. While the first book focuses on the female lead, and the interplay of competing regional and imperial interests, subsequent books will also cover warfare and how I imagine that differs wildly from historical norms with the introductions of a magical aristocracy. 8 132Flap Merganser: Space Duck
This story began as joke to troll some dude on reddit, but I fell in love with the premise and kind of went crazy writing without any direction or planning. Luckily for me, I spent a couple months convinced I was dying and stepped away from the project. I'm not dying by the way, at least not any more than in the traditional sense. But during that period of inner turmoil, I was able to step back and realize I wasn't too thrilled with the direction this was going. So I have relaunched this project under the name Duck Around and Find Out. Some elements will be the same, and some early chapters may be pretty close to what was in the original draft, but I wanted to get into the action with a bit more haste. That being said, I'm going to leave this up here for now so that you can see how this whole project started. So read it if you want to. Or don't. I don't really care. I'm just happy I don't actually have a terminal cancer.

It will help a little but without anything to disinfect the area, I'm at risk of it turning really ugly. I will just have to work with what I have for now. Shore can't be that far away. The island of Kheran is fairly close to the mainland. I've already been out here a while, drifting in the right direction. I estimate to be out of here by the end of the night. That is, if I don't freeze to death. With the water being as cold as it is, I need to keep kicking and paddling to get my heart rate up." In this thrilling, first-person narrative, a defected soldier finds himself adrift in a dire, life-or-death situation. With missing memories and few guesses as to how he got here, his lif quickly becomes a game of survival. Follow his journey through this exhilarating heart-pounder, with fluidly woven descriptions and page-turning surprises.
