Jayson sat on his bed, twirling the engagement ring. Before he was able to imagine their future together, Kate and himself, both together and happy but now when he tried it was nothing but a blur. It had only been two years but everything had changed except for his love for her. His shattered heart still had the capacity to love her without any limits but he just couldn't see them together anymore because he knew that it was not what she wanted.

Now she wanted to meet him and wanted answers for what happened in the past? Couldn't she have done this when the time was right? When there was still time to save their relationship and not go through all this hurt and pain?

He was jolted out his train of thoughts when his housekeeper knocked on the door and stepped inside.

"Sir, the flowers were just delivered" She said as she handed him a bouquet of lilies. They were Kate's favorite. He had ordered them for her.

"Thank you Jane"

Even though he knew this meeting wasn't going to be a walk in the park yet still he just couldn't help himself.

"I need a psychiatrist" he muttered to himself as he got up to get ready. As soon as he reached for the washroom door, his phone rang out.

"Reynolds speaking"

"Sir you are urgently required at the office. One of our cargo planes crashed. None of the crew members made it."

"What!? I will be right there! I want all the reports on my desk when I reach my office." Jayson said as he dashed out the room grabbing his car keys on the way out.

Kate checked the time on her phone. It was 11.45 a.m. Jayson was late. She tapped her foot nervously, her eyes on the door waiting for his familiar sight.

Kaden still hadn't called her but neither had she made any attempt to call him. She was so confused right now. Her feelings were all over the place. She just couldn't figure out where she stood with Jayson. She had thought that it was all gone and she was about to move on but she couldn't have been more wrong.

Her heart knew she still loved him but her brain just couldn't accept that fact. He had hurt and killed her baby. Why would she still be in love with such a man?

"Then what am I doing here? She thought to herself.

"Ma'am, are you ready for your order?" The waitress asked giving a sympathetic smile to Kate.

Kate shook her head and smiled.

"And the breaking news of today is that the most eligible bachelor of NYC, the handsome hunk Jayson Reynolds has finally decided to settle down with the love of his life!" the news anchor exclaimed with excitement.

Jayson's name immediately caught Kate's attention and she turned around in her seat to look at the LED mounted on the café wall where a news channel were running the celebrity segment.

She couldn't believe it but it was right there. Jayson was engaged.

"As per the news that we just got, Jayson proposed to his long time girlfriend in his own unique way. I'll hand over to Mike who at the present is with Ms. Maria Arquette, the stunning model who stole Jayson's heart." The anchor continued as the screen split in half and live footage came on.

Kate could barely breathe as she watched Maria's elated face fill the screen. She was the same woman Jayson had with him when he was at the party.

"I just couldn't believe it. I mean it was just a casual day. I went over to visit Jay and the moment I walked into his room there was this beautiful ring on the bed with a bouquet of flowers. I knew it all along that we were meant to be!" Maria said as she waved her left hand in front of the camera, the ring sparkling on her finger.

"But we still haven't been able to get in contact with Jayson for his comment and his side of the story. As per our facts there has been an emergency at the Reynolds INC. Maybe Jayson Reynolds himself would have been present in the room if it wouldn't have been for the emergency. We will know soon enough. Back over to you Andrea" Mike said and the screen once again came back to the anchor but Kate was no longer listening.

Tears escaped her eyes.

"Why am I crying?" Kate thought to herself but she couldn't help but feel like someone was crushing her heart. She quickly got up and grabbed her purse. She needed to get far away from all of this.

However she only made it as far as the door, when Jayson came storming in followed by a wave of paparazzi who was being pushed back by men in black uniform.

"Kate!" Jayson yelled looking around the café. He was furious yet scared at the same time. He just couldn't grasp what the hell was going on. All he knew at the moment were two things and those were find Kate and kill Maria.

He finally spotted Kate standing behind him near the table next to the door staring at him.

"Kate..."Jayson said as he went towards her.

Kate couldn't bring herself to speak anything.

"Please don't believe in anything that is going on in the news. None of it is true... I never proposed..."

"Jayson darling!"

Jayson growled when he heard Maria's voice behind him and he spun around to face, his facial expressions turning furious.

"YOU.!" Jayson spat as he pointed towards Maria."What the hell do you think you are doing!?"

"What is wrong babe? We are not even married yet and we are already fighting in public places?" Maria threw back her head and laughed.

"That ring was not for you. How dare you touch it let alone wear it!" Jayson yelled taking a step towards Maria. He had never till date disrespected any woman but what Maria did was beyond all of it.

Kate started to feel dizzy. This was turning into a nightmare. She could see the fury rolling of Jayson's body in waves. The ring was not for Maria...that means there was another woman in his life?

"Give me that ring back and get the hell away from me before I get a restraining order against you. What the f+ck were you doing at my house in the first place!? How many times do I have to tell you that what we have is nothing more than that one night! Get it through your pathetic head!"

Maria sneered at Jayson.

"This is the reason men like you die unhappy and go to hell. You sleep with me, mess around with her feelings" Maria said pointing at Kate "and you had this ring for another woman? Go f+ck yourself Reynolds." Maria said as she removed the ring and threw it across the table. She then grabbed the jug of water and threw it across Jayson's face and walked out of the café.

Jayson wanted to rip this entire place apart. There was the plane crash and then this scandal and then there was Kate...

Jayson turned around to face Kate but one of his bodyguard's hurriedly came in and grabbed Jayson's by his shoulders.

"Sir we need to leave now. This is getting out of hand. We have already called the PR at the office. They are working on it but we need to get you out of here ASAP"

Jayson looked at Kate once who looked so small and venerable standing there but he knew he couldn't do anything now. This had spiraled out of control. One last look at her and he left the café.

Kate sat down on the chair and tried to gather herself.

One of the waiters's tapped her shoulder and she looked up.

"Would you like to leave through the back door?" he asked with a gentle smile.

Kate nodded her head and got up to leave but something caught her eye.

Her heart stopped beating. Her hands shook as she reached for the engagement ring that lay on the table where Maria had thrown it.

She picked it up, barely breathing as she read the words engraved on the inside of the ring.

Jay+Kate forever.

Next to it was the date, the day she had found out that she was pregnant.
