Jayson walked into his office and slammed the door shut. It rattled against the frame. He was so furious that his vision had a red tinge to it.

He started to pace the office and the image of Kaden’s arm around her waist flashed again in his head. He picked up a paperweight and smashed it against a wall.

The door burst open and Marc walked into the office. Marc was also shocked to see Kate in the office and he knew this was going to take a toll on his son, who right now was bent on destroying the office as he punched a hole on the wall and was about to upturn the coffee table.

“Jayson!”

“Don’t dad. Please leave me alone right now. I can’t do this. I need to leave.”

“I understand. Just take care of yourself and keep yourself in one piece. I don’t want to be answerable to your mother”

“Continue the meeting without me” Jayson said as he walked out and just as he was about to turn the corner he slammed in a body.

“I am sorry sir.” Kaden said as he steadied himself against the wall.

“Watch where you are going” Jayson growled at him. He didn’t notice Kate who stood to the side.

“Why didn’t I ever see this in him? I thought he was perfect but he never let this side come out and look where that had gotten me” Kate thought.

“Wow, the boss is pissed… don’t know what got into him” Kaden said as he straightened his jacket. He looked at Kate and smiled. He was grateful to god everyday for sending her into his life. She was his light and he loved her so much.

Kate smiled at Kaden and took his hand as he led her towards the conference room. She has been dating him from the past three months after he pursued her for almost 6 months. She wasn’t ready to be in a relation after what happened between Jayson and her but Kaden brought hope to her. He made her smile and when she told him about her past, leaving out details such as his name and place, he had told her that he would wait for her as long she needed him to and soon she caught herself thinking about Kaden often and then when he asked her again she had said yes and so far she had not regretted it.

She knew she didn’t love him but she was ready to explore the potential. He was so loving and caring and considerate that she felt happy around him but now with Jayson back in her life she didn’t know what to tell Kaden, should she tell him that he was the one or let things be as they are and pretend that Jayson didn’t exist…didn’t exist? Who was she kidding? Even now he was there in the back of her head.

Jayson arrived into his penthouse after driving around the city aimlessly trying to control his anger. He went into his room and opened his safe.

There lay a small Cartier’s box, which held the ring for Kate he had bought two years ago. He didn’t have it in him to give it back. It was the only reminder that what they had was true...at least from his side.

He opened the box and looked at the ring. He had it all planned. He was going to take for a dinner and then after that he had asked his dad to lend him his yacht and he was going to take her out on the Hudson and propose her under the stars. He was so sure she was going to say yes but after the horrifying turns of events he often wonder if they hadn’t gotten pregnant and had made it to the yacht and he had proposed…would have she said yes?

He seriously doubted it. He was blinded by the love he had for to even pay attention to the fact that whether she loved him or not. She said it a million times to him but things can be said without meaning them right?

He closed the box shut and kept it back into the safe.

His phone vibrated in his pocket and he took it out to look at the caller id. It was his father.

“Hey dad”

“Reached home?”

“Yes”

“Okay good. We wrapped up the meeting and it went good. I hope you are doing okay?”

“I am fine. It just took me by surprise that’s all. Didn’t expect her to be there. Is there anything else you want to say?”

“Yeah…Mr. Crichton is hosting a party tomorrow for the whole team. Don’t ask me why but Landen and Fred were in on it. It will be good publicity for the hotel so I need you to be there as well. I know it will be hard for you with Kate but you have worked hard on this project, don’t let anything or anyone come in the way of that.”

“Okay thanks”

“Good night son”

“Yeah good night dad” Jayson said as he disconnected the call and threw the phone across the bed.

Tomorrow was going to be fun.

Kate was getting ready for the party in the hotel room she shared with Kaden. The entire team had checked into one of the Reynolds’ Inc hotels which was fully paid by the company.

Tonight their boss was hosting a party and they all had to be present though Kate was not looking forward to it especially with Jayson being present there, which is if he comes. Yesterday he had stormed out of the meeting and had not returned.

Kate was trying to zip up her dress but it seemed to be stuck.

“Need help with that?” Kaden asked as he walked out of the washroom, dressed in a black tux with emerald green tie and pocket piece, matching Kate’s dress.

Kate nodded as she blushed.

Kaden zipped her up trailing his fingers as he did so and placed a kiss on her neck.

Kate laughed and pushed him away.

“Not now. We are going to be late.”

“Okay but I will be helping you out of that dress tonight” Kaden winked at her as he stepped back.

Kate put on her earrings and heels and grabbed her clutch.

“Ready to go?” Kaden asked and she nodded.

They made their way downstairs to the ballroom where the party was being hosted.

The guests had already started to arrive and media was going crazy outside.

Just as she was about to turn around to grab a glass of champagne she saw Jayson enter the room with a gorgeous model looking woman by his side.

She missed the glass and toppled over another with her hand, spilling the drink.

“S..ss..orr..ry” She stammered at the waiter.

“Sorry buddy” Kaden came to her side and apologized to the waiter.

“It’s okay” the waiter said and left.

“Be careful love” Kaden said as he kissed her cheek.

Kate pulled back from Kaden as she heard someone clear his throat behind her.

“Hello. I hope you are doing well today Ms. Katherine. Yesterday you seemed a bit off” Jayson said to her.

He had heard Kaden call her love and kiss her. It had made his blood boil. He was trying to be not affected by it but he couldn’t.

He still loved her even though she trampled on his heart and didn’t care about him.

“Y..ees..s”

“She is fine” Kaden said

“I was talking to her” Jayson shot at Kaden

“She has as problem with speech.” Kaden explained

“Oh okay. Well nice meeting you both”

“Darling let us get a drink” Maria said.

“Excuse us please” Jayson said as he took Maria’s hand and lead her away.

“What is he doing?” Kate thought as she watched his retreating back and why was she affected by the way that woman Maria looked at him and touched him?

“Tonight is going to be a disaster” Kate thought still looking where Jayson had disappeared with Maria.
