《His Proposal》His Proposal - 86

I am sitting in the back of the limo with a very stubborn guy. I told him on many occasions that he needed to forgive his sister and that she was doing everything she could to pay the medical bills.

She knew it wasn't going to be easy to pay off. That's why she accepted my help and signed The Proposal. She wanted to make things easier for her siblings and herself.

What wasn't on the proposal was us falling for each other. At first, it was about helping a girl out that needed a break, but as soon as I met her siblings, things started to change and I wanted to be there for her more.

I wormed my way into their lives and I was lucky that they accepted me. Well, except for Nate. He didn't welcome me with open arms at first.

He gave me a chance and for that, I want to return the favour and let him forgive his sister.

The limo comes to a stop at the cemetery and we step out of the car.

I place my hand on Nate's shoulder. "When your sister gets here you need to start talking to her. She's done nothing wrong. Chloe did what she had to, to keep herself from drowning in debt. If I didn't help her out, she would be in debt, with no way of getting out of it. She knew she needed help and that's why she signed the proposal. That document was supposed to be private, but someone broke into my personal safe and stole it. They had a copy of it for a year and when things took a turn and your sister died the person thought that the proposal would be void and they could have there turn with me. Everything between Chloe and me is real. I didn't propose to her in Paris for a publicity stunt. I did it because she's the woman that I truly want to be with."

Nate bows his head and a single tear fall down his face. He quickly wipes it away. "I will apologise when I see her." He looks at the parking area. "Where is she?"

The last time I saw her she was following behind us.

My parents and siblings walk towards us. "Mom, have you seen, Chloe?" She shakes her head.

Pulling my phone out of my pocket I call her. It goes straight to voice message.

Where the hell is she?

My family, Nate and I walk over to he where Aleysa will be buried with her parents.

The grass has been dug up and it's waiting for the third Knight family member to be placed in the hole.

Nate puts a rose on the headstone and he whispers. "I miss you all. I'm sorry for being a disappointment to you." He places his hand on the headstone. "Please, tell me that my sister is safe."

We stay at the cemetery for 40 minutes before we go to my place for the wake.

Chloe never showed at the cemetery and that's unlike her. When she says she will be somewhere she's there, but for her not to show up to something like this has me worried.

Maybe, she's at home.

The limo pulls into the driveway of my house.

Opening the front door I invite everyone in. "Chloe," I yell, making my way up the stairs. "are you in the bedroom? I'm coming in." I open the door to the bedroom and see some of her things missing.

On the nightstand, I see a piece of paper and my heart sinks.

What has she done?

I open the paper and start to read it.

At least I know how she feels.

The paparazzi just made her leave town, but it's also going to help her heal with the loss of her sister.

I open the nightstand and see a brochure for Camp Tranquility.

She needs it.

I'm going to miss her though.

Mom walks towards me. She looks at what's in my hand. "What's that?"

"Chloe needed a break from everything that's happening." I give her a brochure. "She went there for a few days. She told me that she wants to have three days there before I follow her."

She pulls me into a hug. "She's a good girl and she realised that she needs help even though it's not from any of us. It's good that someone left her this. It's what she needs after what the paparazzi and her brother are putting her through."

"I miss her, Mom."

"I know you do. Which is why you will sleep tonight and tomorrow night here. Then you will fly to San Francisco and bring her back home where she belongs." I walk back downstairs and see people eating the food that Mom prepared for the wake.

Nate is sitting outside. He looks up when he hears me open the door. "I'm not going back in there. Everyone keeps saying the same line over and over. It's hard to hear "I'm sorry for your loss" without wanting to strangle someone."

I feel that way about the kid sitting next to me.

Looking at him, I say. "You're sister won't be home for a few days."

He frowns. "Why?"

Looking him in the eyes I say the next sentence. "She lost her sister and then something that wasn't supposed to exposed was. She put up with a lot from strangers and then there's you. You refused to talk to her after everything went down. All she wanted was a little understanding from her brother. She asked for a few days to herself and I'm going to respect her wishes." I lean forward. "So, should you." I rise and make my way back to the kitchen. I talk to some of the guests and apologise to some with the absence of my fiancé.

Everyone has left the house at 9 pm.

I look for Nate and find him in the living holding a picture of Aleysa. "Help me clean the kitchen."

It takes Nate and me three hours to clean the entire house. "Goodnight," he walks to his room.

"Night," I walk to my room and climb into bed. I look at the photo of Chloe and me. "I love you, Chloe. Goodnight."
