《Return • Todoroki ff》Chapter 12

Just like that Niko and the rest of her employees had to work overnight to complete the project.
"Is this the last draft?" Niko asked as Kaito passed her a file.
"Yes it is," Kaito said his eyebags more visible after spending his whole night at the office.
Niko flipped through the contents of the file before giving it back to Kaito and nodding, indicating that the contents were okay and were ready to be submitted.
"Submit it to the sponsors and after that inform everyone that they can go on a break for 2 days and return back next Monday," Niko replied looking through her other files.
Kaito nodded almost immediately and walked briskly out of the door. A few seconds later, Niko could hear the cheers from her employees from her office and she smiled at their act. A few moments later Kaito walked in again.
"Hitori-san, there's a bouquet of baby breaths for you," Kaito said before giving Niko the bouquet.
Niko raised an eyebrow, questioning why was there flowers for her and then it suddenly hit her. She was supposed to collect the flowers she requested from her older sister yesterday.
"Ah.... Okay thank you Kaito just put it on the table I'll put it in the vase later,"
Kaito nodded and placed the flowers on Niko's table and saying, "Hitori-san are you going back soon?"
"In awhile you can go back first, I'll leave once I am done with these files." Kaito nodded and left the office.
"Finally done...." Niko mumbled as she stretched her arms.
"I should probably place these flowers in the vase before I go."
Niko took the bouquet of baby breaths and walked to the company's kitchen with the flower vase in her hands. After placing the baby breaths into the vase she returned back to her office and placed it on the coffee table she had in front of her desk.
Before leaving her office, Niko tidied her desk, placing all the files neatly in her drawer and locking it before grabbing her bag and leaving the office. As she was walking towards the carpark she saw a man with red and white hair from a distance standing by her car.
"Shoto?" Niko called out as she walked closer towards the car.
Upon hearing his name, Todoroki lifted his head from his phone to find the source of the voice.

"Why are you here? Don't you have to patrol the city?"
"It's my rest day.."
'She finally called me by my name...." I thought smiling to myself
"Shoto? Why are you smiling to yourself-" Niko asked.
"Oh nothing."
"So, why are you here? If it's your rest day shouldn't you be resting at home?"
"I was out getting groceries when I saw your assistant and he said that you were still in the office so I decided to wait for you."
"I see...."
"Do you need me to drive you home? You seem tired."
"I guess I can't reject your kind offer," Niko said smiling as she gave me her car keys and walked towards the passenger seat as soon as I unlocked the car.
When I turned towards the passenger seat to ask if she wanted to eat lunch together I realised that she had already fallen asleep. I smiled to myself as I started the car and started the quiet and peaceful journey towards her house.
The drive back to Niko's house didn't take long since the company was rather close to her house.
"Niko-" I said giving her shoulder a light tap. She didn't respond so I continued my attempt to wake her up. After several attempts she finally woke up.
"Where are we..." Niko asked as she rubbed her eyes.
"Your house," I replied getting off the car and opening the car door for her.
"Thank you...." She said getting off.
"Do you need the car to get back?"
"No it's fine I can visit my siblings while I'm here," I said returning her car key.
"I guess I'll see you at the reunion this Friday?"
"Yea...."
"Oh um Aizawa-sensei confirmed that its 11am."
"Oh okay. Well um bye see you on Friday," Niko said as she opened the door to her house and gave me a small wave before closing the door.
After seeing the door close I left the estate and started my walk towards my father's house.
As I was removing my shoes, my mother walked down the stairs.
"Oh Niko, you're back? Why weren't you home last night?" My mother questioned.
"Sorry mum, I forgot to inform you that the company had something important so I can't come back."
"It's fine just remember next time," She replied before walking to the kitchen.

"Do you want something to eat?"
"Yes please I am starving." My mother laughed when she heard my response.
"I'll be in my room, call me when the food is done. Thank you mum," I said as I walked up the stairs towards my room.
Closing the door to my room, I walked to the vanity and removed my accessories before grabbing my towel and pajamas and getting into the shower.
While I was showering my mum knocked on the bathroom door and told me that the food was ready and it was already on the dining table before leaving my room. I got out of the shower after a few minutes and wrapped my hair with the towel before walking down the stairs and eating my food.
'She really is my mum.... She still remembers my favourite food.' I thought as I sat down to eat my noodles. It didn't take me long to finish the bowl of noodles and I brought my bowl to the kitchen to place in the dishwasher. As I was walking up to my room so that I could continue sleeping, my father walked out of the study room and called me in.
I sighed mentally as I walked behind him into the study room.
"Niko. Take a seat," My father said sitting behind his table.
The atmosphere was very solemn, the moment I sat on the couch in front of his table the memories of him scolding me while I was still schooling suddenly came back.
"NIKO HITORI!" My father screamed, I flinched when he raised his voice.
He had his cane in one hand and my test papers in another.
"How can you flunk this test. Do you know as the successor to the Hitori Inc. you are required to excel in everything you do. Even if it's the smallest test. Do you understand," He said slamming the test papers onto his desk.
Although he wasn't raising his voice I could feel his anger in his tone. He was warning me, telling me, saying that if I don't excel in everything I do I will be stripped of the title of the successor of the Hitori Inc.
"Niko?"
"Ah.. Yes?"
"Did you hear what I was saying?"
"Sorry could you repeat...."
"I said. How is the company?"
"It's doing great."
"Good."
I can't remember when was the last time I had a proper conversation with my father. As the both of us grew older the conversations between us became shorter as well. Besides that, our conversations were only limited to work. It was almost never about our personal lives.
"Is there anything that I need to know?"
"I- No...."
I was going to ask if I was allowed to leave the company at this timing so I could go to America with Shoto. But I figured that it was not a good timing and that I should wait a while longer before asking.
"If there isn't anything else I'll be leaving," I said getting up from my seat and leaving the study room, walking back to my room so that I could sleep.
"Sis!" Asahi called out as he jumped onto Niko's bed. Seeing that his sister showed no reaction he proceeded to jump up and down on her bed until she woke up and threw her pillow at him.
"Asahi Hitori what do you want. It better be something more worthy than my sleep."
"Didn't you agree to me training you every night?"
"Oh."
"Not tonight Asahi. I am sleepy."
"Such a pity. I'm made some food for you.... I guess I'll eat it...." Asahi said getting off the bed.
"Ah- Asahi wait," Niko replied grabbing her younger brother's hand.
"What did you make?"
"Just some ramen. Nothing special," Asahi said shrugging.
"Is it your speciality?" Niko asked secretly praying that it is.
Asahi's chicken ramen was on another level and he won't make it unless it feels like it.
"Maybeeeee," Asahi said walking out of the room and Niko followed him.
"It is! I love you baby brother!!" Niko said hugging Asahi before sitting down and eating the ramen Asahi made.
"This taste! I have been craving for it while I was in Korea."
"You should have came back to visit if you were craving for it."
"You know I couldn't Asahi. The company was in such a bad state."
"Yea yea I know. Anyways after you eat meet me at the gym, we will begin our training."
"Come on Asahi, cut your sister some slack. I didn't sleep because someone exposed the company's project files to the rival company."
"Fine. Just for today. I'll make you train double tomorrow."
"Thank you!!" Niko said smiling as she continued to eat her ramen.
"I'll be in my room doing my work," Asahi said before walking up to his room, which was beside Niko's.

The seekers of the Alien, the Heretic and the Daemon have descended upon this peaceful world, and they will not leave it intact.
