《Return • Todoroki ff》Chapter 4

"Niko where were you?" My father asked.
"I was talking to my old classmates." My father gave me a nod and walked towards the main entrance with me following closely behind.
My father stopped in front of the car and opened the door for me to get in. I didn't say anything but returned his gesture with a smile.
The car ride back home was quiet mostly because I was trying to keep myself awake.
After what seems like ages my father finally announced that we were home and I immediately got off the car.
'I hate these heels..' I thought when I took them off and changed into my slippers before walking up to my room to take a shower.
After showering I walked out of the bathroom with my hair in a towel. When I was going about to collapse onto my bed. My phone rang signalling that I got a text.
I was mentally cursing at that person when I walked over to get my phone.
Unknown number, Niko
Yes it is and you are?
I didn't reply after that and just left him on read and changed his contact to Shoto with a heart emoji at the back of his name. I smiled with satisfaction as I walked to my bed and charged my phone. I laid on my bed staring at the ceiling before drifting to sleep a few minutes later.
My phone rang and I groaned in reply. As I reached over to my bedside table to snooze my alarm.
'Should I wake up? It's a Sunday..' I didn't think about that anymore because I fell into a deep slumber once again.
"Nikoooooooo!!" My brother whined as he jumped onto the bed next to mine.
"Oh my god what do you want!" I said as I sat up on my bed and I ran my fingers through my hair.
"I want to eat ramen." Asahi said as he lied down beside me.
"Are you crazy? Why are you telling me? Go tell the chefs or mum." I said as I lied down and pulled the covers over my head.
"But Nikooooo you make the best ramen!" Asahi said as he pulled the covers off my head and stared and me with his puppy eyes.

"Oh my god.. Why are you my brother I said as I got out of my bed and walked to the bathroom to get ready.
As Niko walked out of the bathroom her brother was sitting on her bed using his phone.
"Oh and also we don't have anymore ramen-"
"Asahi Hitori!" Niko shouted and her brother flinched.
"Sorry- I didn't know hehe."Her brother said smiling sheepishly.
Niko whined in reply as she grabbed her phone and wallet before walking down the stairs to the main entrance where she put on her shoes. After she wore her shoes she walked out of the door to buy ingredients to make ramen.
"Screw Asahi.." Niko cursed as she walked along the streets of Japan.
Niko plugged in her earpiece as she listened to her playlist. After she got the ingredients for ramen she walked out to be met with a villain currently running away from a hero. She couldn't do much since she was out of training and was convinced that she could not fight like before.
So she just kept to one side of the street and continued walking home but she didn't sense the villain knocking over a lamp post she was walking under.
As I was walking I felt someone grabbing my waist and sliding further from where I was. I looked up to see Shoto.
"Todoroki?" I asked surprised as I looked back to see the lamp post falling. The villain on the other hand was caught by Bakugo and Midoriya.
"AHA I GOT YOU!" Bakugo shouted as he grabbed onto the villain. I shook my head as I watched the boy handcuff the villain.
"Niko are you okay?" Shoto asked waving his hands in front of me.
"Yea I am fine. If there's nothing else I'll be going my brother is waiting and thank you for saving me." I said as I stood up and brushed the dust off my pants before attempting to walk off.
"Niko!" Todoroki said as he held onto my wrist I turned around to look at him but he pulled me into a hug.
"Todoroki! We are in public." I said as I tried to push him off me but of course since he was stronger than me that attempt failed so I just gave up.

"Are you free tonight? I want to make you dinner." He whispered into my ear sending shivers down my spine.
"Yes I am free." I whispered back and I swear for a moment his face turned red.
"G-oo-d I'll pick you up tonight." He replied and pulled away from the hug.
But before he left he placed a kiss on top of my forehead. I was of course stunned that was such a bold move and I knew the old Shoto would not do that. I guess people can change a lot in 3 years.
I shook off that thought and walked back home to make ramen for my troublesome brother.
'My god what did I do! Why why did I kiss her Todoroki Shoto are you out of your mind?!' I mentally slapped myself as I watched Niko walk into the distance.
"ICYHOT!" Bakugo screamed into my ear.
"Oh my god!" I said as I turned around to see Midoriya and Bakugo staring at me.
"Why are the both of you staring at me like I am not human." I questioned.
"Because you-" Bakugo couldn't finish his sentence when Midoriya placed his hands over his mouth.
"Oh it's nothing we just thought that something was on your mind because you didn't reply when we were calling you." I made an 'O' with my mouth as a reply.
"It's nothing. Is the police coming to collect that guy soon?" I asked pointing to the villain in the handcuffs sitting on the floor.
"Oh they are comi-" Midoriya's sentence was cut off when the sound of police sirens came.
"I guess they are here." I said as I walked over to the villain and lifted him off the ground.
"Great work heroes it's always a pleasure working with the 3 of you." The chief said as he saluted and took the villain from me.
"How about a little celebration tonight?" Midoriya asked taking his hands off of Bakugo's mouth.
"HELL YEAH!" Bakugo said actually screamed but I guess that was more of his speaking voice than his shouting voice.
"I can't make it. I am meeting Niko." I replied.
"Niko? As in Niko Hitori from our class?" Midoriya questioned and I nod in reply.
"Oh wow are you trying to get her back or something?"
"Of course."
"But won't your dad disagree?"
"As if I care." I stated shrugging my shoulders. Surprisingly Bakugo was quiet I guess he was thinking about something.
"Well then Todoroki I wish you the best of luck."
"Oi Todoroki." Honestly I flinched when I heard Bakugo call me by name and mainly also because he wasn't shouting.
"If you hurt Niko I'll make sure you die." Bakugo said as he shoved his hands into the pockets of his hero costume.
"Kacchan why do you care about Niko I thought you were on bad terms with her back in highschool?"
"YOU DUMB DEKU SHE'S MY FIRST FRIEND!" Bakugo shouted and I guess I was kind of relieved to see him back in his usual state of mind.
"Oh oh I forgot." Midoriya replied as he scratched his nape.
"Yes don't worry Bakugo I won't harm Niko in any way. Even if she faces any trouble I will make sure I'll rescue her even if it costs my life." I said and Bakugo nodded his head in reply before walking into the distance with Midoriya trying to keep up with him.
I went a separate way because my agency was on a different street and as I was walking I thought about what I should make for Niko.
"Soba?" I mumbled as I walked into my office.
"Todoroki-san this is the report for today's meeting." My sidekick said and I signaled for her to place the document on my desk"
"Todoroki-san are you okay? You seem pretty dazed after you came back from that patrol." My sidekick asked.
"Yes I am fine." I said and I leaned back onto my chair thinking about what I should do with Niko.
"Then I'll be leaving." My sidekick said as she bowed and left the office.

On the Road to Elspar (Book 1)
The year is 1329. The Huntress' War has entered its tenth year, inflaming competing nationalisms and pitting the Confederacy of Caldrein against one of the continent's superpowers, the Tenereian Union. Desperately outnumbered, the Confederacy has relied on the prowess of its famed Caldran mercenaries, with highly-trained and experienced warbands returning from foreign conflicts to the defense of their homeland, and it is on their backs that Caldrein has successfully mounted a valiant defense for a decade. But they are losing, and day by day, with all the grace of a sledgehammer, the vast Tenereian armies take one more bit of Caldran territory, one footstep at a time. Sixteen-year-old Neianne from the village of Caelon has submitted herself to Faulkren Academy, one of the centuries-old institutions established to train the next generation of Caldrein's elite soldiers of fortune, to learn the ways of wars for three years before embarking upon the defense of her country. Her dryad family once hailed from reclusive woodland communes isolated from Caldrein's complicated mainstream society, and her upbringing leaves the shy village girl unprepared to suddenly train alongside other apprentices from backgrounds as low as the dirty slums of Caldrein's cities and as high as the halls of aristocratic power. Yet the war is eroding the norms and traditions that the Caldran people have long considered part of their national mythos, and the tensions within the confederacy that have long simmered under the surface - race, class, community, identity - are slowly but surely dividing its people, and Neianne must grow and discover who she really is, even as the war that she is steadfastly training for comes to its inexorable end... On the Road to Elspar is a fantasy quest - a work of interactive fiction wherein readers get to vote on what happens next at critical junctures - that is the first entry in a story that follows Neianne of Caelon, which first began on July 20, 2016. Originally a three-part in medias res prologue to a larger story titled On the Elsparian Road, it was eventually decided that this section - which covers Neianne's three years at Faulkren Academy - become its own independent story due to length, structural, and accessibility reasons. Despite this being a reader interactive work of fiction, due to logistical and verification concerns, voting will only be counted on its thread on the forum Sufficient Velocity, where this story originally began. As such, the content here on Royal Road serves as a story-only archive. You are, of course, entirely welcome to enjoy On the Road to Elspar as a conventional work of fiction, just as you are welcome to comment, discuss, and provide critique. But if you would like to participate in the voting, then I would be honored to welcome you on Sufficient Velocity. To facilitate accessibility and to ensure the best reading experience, this story-only version of On the Road to Elspar will be updated at a periodic pace, even though further content exists, so as to not overwhelm new readers on Royal Road. If you enjoy this story, wish to binge it, and/or want to participate in voting immediately, you may of course read all additional content via the link provided above. This paragraph will be removed once the content on Royal Road catches up with what has already been posted in its original thread. Cover artwork by DreamSyndd.

The Foretold: Sun Child (Complete)
As a sixteen year old commoner, your future is bleak. Worse, your appearance sets you apart from others. Your only achievement so far, is befriending the second son of the Lord of the Keep. He has been your only friend for eleven years, initially partner in mischief and later your hunting companion and confidant. Now your friendship is being torn asunder, he has turned eighteen and is being sent away to become a Judge Knight Aspirant. What is to become of you? Before your friend leaves, there is murder and conspiracy! Magic left the land hundreds of years ago, all you have is your bow and hunting skills, nevertheless you must fight to survive and save another to have any hope of a future! Note: The graphic isn't mine; it is a re-imagining of a few separate images, any objections by original artists let me know. N.B. If you are looking for Sexual Content every chapter, or every second, third or fourth chapter this isn't the story for you - the Sexual Content is required for a plot device, not a way of life and the later chapters reflect that - please stop dropping Low Ratings when you feel I haven't met your idea of "fan service". This is finished as much as a multi book vision can be finished. At 750,000 words give or take and very little readership I can only blame myself. I have learnt a lot, possibly forgotten a lot as well! I will probably return to the Chapters at some point - a touch up here and a touch up there. The second book though will probably remain in my head for a very long time, so yes "cliffs" although I hope the characters and their motivations are developed enough that you can have a good guess at the content of Book Two and tell me so I can confirm or deny! This isn't a LITRPG where classes are developed, great foes are defeated by a hero of immense power. This is a story based within (I hope) a very real and consistent culture, that leaves breadcrumbs for the reader to work out what the heck is happening and why. This is a slow burn story as the MC is stumbling around discovering her new place and role. Author's Note (Apr 2021): I dropped the Fantasy Genre for the Mystery Genre, because while the setting mentions magic, is it about past glories and trying to return to them. Whereas the MC from Chapter One doesn't understand her predicament and the range of mysteries she must solve to survive. If I have this wrong PM me and I will change this back.

It is a world where imagination meets biology with often disastrous results, and where who you are is quite literally whatever you want to be - If you live long enough.expect weird body horror. Not gore, Think Frankenstein by Kubrik, at least for the first few chapters. Also, quite a few naked dudes. They'll find pants eventually.
