"
"Wait this doesn't make any sense. He gave me the documents that actually helped us build our case. If he was on dad's side, he would never do that."
"May be its because of money?" the lawyer tried to reason.
"But then, he would have blackmailed dad with these documents and never given them to me. I did ask for his helped, but I never expected anything in return. I never in specifically asked him to look it dad's finances"
"May be he is just seeking redemption for his behavior." Mom finally spoke up. "I always considered Lam as my brother, but I never thought he would break my trust because of some money. I could have given him the money. All he had to do was ask. We wouldn't be here right now if he had just been honest with me 10 years ago."
"Mom, I am going to talk to Uncle Lam and get to the bottom of this"
"I wouldn't recommend that, Arthit" the lawyer advised. "We need to keep all this information between us only and not discuss it with anyone else until we have officially filed our case.
I am going to prepare the divorce papers and try to schedule a meeting with Mr Rojnapat tomorrow itself. Here is what we will be offering him — Your home in Macau and 30 million baht. But we'll ask for 15-20 days to make the transfer. He'll probably be in jail by that time, if everything goes well."
"How are we going to make dad attend the meeting?"
"That's my job Arthit, you don't have to worry about that.
For now, Mrs Rojnapat, I would just like you to sign all these papers which would put all of your assets in Arthit's name. That way, these assets won't get entangled in your divorce proceedings.
Once we move forward with the fraudulent charges against your husband, there is a slim chance some of your bank accounts and other assets might get freezed too.
"Yes, of course." Mom signed a whole stack of papers.
The more papers she signed, the more nervous I got. It felt like I didn't deserve all that. I was still scared of what dad might do once he finds out the company has been put under my name.
"Okay, we are all set now Mrs Rojnapat. You should just go home, relax, and come back tomorrow with a positive state of mind. While I'll try my best, the meeting can go either way, so we want to be prepared."
We left the meeting and dropped Arthit's mom at house. But Arthit.. he looked like he had a lot on his mind.
"So, how about I take my newly rich boyfriend out for an ice cream? Don't worry, I'll pay for it, Arthit. It might be hard to believe but I am not after you for your money."

He chuckled. "Stop being over dramatic Kong, lets just go"
I bought Arthit his favourite ice cream, at least I thought it was his favourite. But even that failed to amp up Arthit's mood.
"Hey Arthit, I have a good news and a great news. What do you want to hear first?"
Arthit looked up. "Ah, good news, I guess?"
"Uncle Thipat passed the test. Not only did he not check the envelope, he also didn't let any of the new staff members enter the study.
"Really? Whats the great news then?"
"Wait. what? Seriously? You said it would take months" Arthit was finally smiling again.
"Yeah. But I already told mom and dad about it, and they were pretty happy actually. I think they like you more than their own son"
"That's not true... They are just nice to me, that's it.
Should we go to your dorms and pack your stuff then?"
I laughed. "Too eager, are we? I have some assignments to complete today. I'll pack my stuff tomorrow night and move in. Sound like a plan?"
Arthit sighed. "Okay but you better stay at the apartment tonight"
"Where else would I go? Lets finish this up and go home. We'll have a long day tomorrow"
···
"Arthit, all set?"
"Are you sure he is coming?"
"Yes, we confirmed it yesterday. He is definitely coming. We also have security guards right outside the room in case he tries to get violent again, so you don't have to worry about anything."
I can't believe the lawyers actually convinced Arthit's dad to come into the meeting. Arthit didn't want me to come to the meeting, but I insisted. After he tried to attack Arthit in front of the house, I couldn't just leave him be. I would be more worried sitting at home.
We had to wait for good 15 minutes when Mr Rojnapat finally entered the meeting room. He looked just as angry as he did the other day.
"You seem pretty happy for a guy who just destroyed his parents marriage, Arthit. How does it feel to be the most selfish guy in this whole world?"
I gritted my teeth. My first instinct was to beat him up but I needed to stay calm until he signed the papers.
"Mr Rojnapat, I would request you to not be disrespectful towards my clients." said the lawyer.
"Like we discussed on the phone, the divorce papers are ready to be signed. In return, my client won't be pressing any charges against you for siphoning company money and you will also get ownership of the Macau house that you share with my client."
"Yeah. About that, I am not signing any divorce papers without getting complete ownership of the company. I will only divorce Maya if she gives me her company shares and puts the whole company in my name. She can keep all the houses she wants."

"First of all, the company is Arthit's now, not Maya's. Also, Mr Rojnapat, I think there is some misunderstanding here. You think this is a negotiation when we are offering you the best option available to youwhich doesn't lead to you going to jail."
"The company was never Arthit's to have and you don't have anything against me to put me in jail. I have an army of lawyers behind me. You will never, ever get me."
"With all due respect Mr Rojnapat, hiring an army of lawyers requires money, which you won't have once we file fraudulent charges against you. We'll make sure your assets and bank accounts get freezed and you will be left on your own. People don't really want to care about you when you don't have money."
"They are just fraud charges. Everyone takes a bit from their company. Don't try me here and don't waste my time. I have been in the business for 20 years and I have friends in high place."
"I am sure you do Mr Rojnapat, but I might have forgotted to mention something — We'll also be filing attempt to murder charges against you. You really thought we wouldn't find evidence of you trying to target your own wife by putting a GPS in her car and sending that godawful truck?
The hundreds of trackers around the house will only help bolster our case."
Arthit looked shocked, he clearly didn't know about this. Its a good thing I asked the lawyer to look into the truck which tried to bump into us on the day of the accident.
The truck's license number was actually fake and we ended up getting no information there. I am pretty sure the lawyer was just bluffing Mr Rojnapat at this point.
"You—you can't do that. You don't have anything against me"
"If we didn't, would we know all about the truck and GPS devices? We have enough to officially file a case against you and then we can use the public opinion to push the case on our side.
What do you think will happen to your reputation once the media gets a whiff of what you did? Thai millionaire spies on his family for years and tries to kill his only son — all for money. The press will eat it up.
We'll also add some of your pictures with your mistress and the video we took last night—perfect icing on top.
How many of your friends in high places will be willing to help you once you become an outcast Mr Rojanpat?"
Arthit's dad was left speechless at this point. The lawyer had finally confused him with his words.
"You can look at the papers and sign it now."
"How do I believe you won't file a case against me once I sign the papers?"
If you agree to move away from the company and my client's private life, we have no reason to file a case against you, it will only hurt the company's reputation and breach my client's privacy. And none of us want that to happen"
"Maya, do you really want this? Do you really want to leave me? Why did you even put the whole company in Arthit's name?"
"I should have done this a decade ago. Just sign the papers already"
He stared at the papers for a while. "I also want money apart from the Macau house. I am not leaving empty handed."
"We have already prepared 30 million baht. It will be transferred in your overseas account as soon as you leave the country." said the lawyer.
He finally picked up the pen and signed the papers. And it felt like I could breathe again.
The lawyer took the papers. "Thanks Mr Rojnapat, we'll get the house ownership agreement to you soon too. You'll also get a copy of the divorce papers with them."
He got up, but just as he was about to leave, he walked towards Arthit and stared him down.
"Are you finally happy you got what you wanted? We could have all been a happy family if you had just stayed straight and married my business partner's daughter like I wanted. You think you can run this company? You never deserved it and you never will."
"We were never a happy family. You were an awful husband, and a pathetic father. You never did anything in your life on your own. All you did was burn through mom's money and spend it on women—"
Before Arthit could say anything else, his dad attacked him and chocked his neck.
"How dare you talk to me like that? You destroy my whole life and then you have the audacity to sit here and talk shit about me?"
----
Do you think Arthit's dad will retaliate or will he go away quietly?
Did you think Uncle Thipat was suspicious?
I just want to say a big THANKS to everyone reading the story. Your comments gave me the constant motivation to write this story. Honestly, when I started it, I thought no one would ready my story and I will probably abandon it half way. So thank you so much❤️❤️❤️
