《Zero Falls: Season One》Summerween-Part One

"Are you two ready yet?"

It was the beginning of night, and the shack was decorated in a variety of Halloween decorations. Watermelons with smiley faces carved in them, and lit candles stuck in their centers, illuminated the front porch. Meanwhile inside, Wendy was waiting downstairs, while adding the finishing touches to a costume she wore. She was dressed as a manly lumberjack, and was tying up her hair, before putting on a fake mustache. Wendy admired herself in the mirror.

"Looking good," She smiled.

Wendy tossed another glance to the staircase. "Guys, the kids are not gonna trick or treat themselves."

"We're coming!" Bill called.

There was a sound of footfalls, as the Cipher twins came down the staircase. They were dressed as a stereotypical devil and angel. Will adjusted his fake halo, so it wouldn't fall into his face.

"I'd be lying if I said I did this before," He said, sheepishly. "Our parents were never keen on celebrating...any holiday."

"Well, you're in luck," Wendy said, excitingly. "Because the people in this town love Halloween so much, they celebrate it twice a year. Which is how Summerween was born."

"Works for me," Bill grinned. "Hopefully, we'll be able to hit as many houses as possible."

"Ain't we a little old to go trick or treating?" Will questioned.

The blond chuckled mischievously. "Yes, but we can never be too old to TP every house in sight," He said, then his expression soured. "Especially Gideon's."

"Bill, no," The blue haired boy chided. "I rather not have a raging telepath tearing you limb from limb."

"Ugh, fine," The blond remarked, then added sarcastically. "It's not like he's working with our greatest enemies, or anything."

Will and Wendy frowned.

The latest discovery of Gideon's partnership, made everyone a little shaky, especially since it wasn't only Kill they were facing. Dipper and Mabel had explained to the Cipher brothers, everything they knew about Jill. The female Demon was indeed intelligent, and her main power centered around her voice. Unlike Kill's power of invulnerability, Jill wasn't as flashy with her ability, so the Guardians were unsure how she used it. It was also known, that Jill was smarter than Kill, and usually came up with all the plans. With that, Bill and Will decided to trudge more carefully, now that they were aware of who they were dealing with.

The tension in the shack was thankfully cut short, when two more figures entered. Of course, it was Dipper and Mabel, and they weren't wearing costumes.

"Happy Summerween!" Mabel cheered, holding a bucket of candy.

"Glad you two could make it," Wendy greeted.

Dipper looked severely drained, with heavy bags under his eyes. He lazily scratched at a band-aid on his neck. "Yep, Mabel really wanted to give the twins some leftover candy."

"Wow, thanks Shooting Star," Bill said, and Will nodded in agreement.

The brothers reached out and each grabbed a treat. After tearing off the wrapping paper, they each took a bite. However, shortly after, they gagged in disgust.

"What the heck?" Bill snapped, reading the candy wrapper. "I never heard of this brand! Sand-Pop?"

"Mr Adequate Bar?" Will questioned, looking at his own wrapper.

"Did you seriously feed us cheap loser candy?" The blond snapped at Mabel.

"Oh? Is that Summerween discontent I hear?" She replied, ominously. "Maybe, it'll be enough to summon the infamous Summerween Trickster."

"The what?" Bill asked.

Dipper yawned, before answering his question tiredly. "The Summerween Trickster is this supposed monster that eats people who don't show the spirit for the holiday. And he's a myth."

"He is not!" Mabel argued. "I know he's real, and I'm gonna definitely prove it this year."

"Do what you want," Dipper sighed. He walked over to the sofa in the living room. "As for me, I'm gonna take a little break..."

Then, in an instant, he fell fast asleep on the sofa. Bill glanced at him in confusion. "Uh, Pine Tree?"

When he didn't get a response, Bill turned towards Mabel. "OK, what's up with him?"

"He was pulling an all-nighter," Mabel explained. "I knew I should've gave him some Mabel Juice to keep him energized."

Will looked at her curiously. "What's Mabel Juice."

"My famous concoction," She answered, proudly. "Keeps you awake for up to 24 hours or more!"

"That sounds horrible," Bill commented.

"Eh, it's not that bad," Wendy chimed in. "I tried it, and I was so energized, I managed to party all night...Granted, I did wake up the next morning with no memory, and I was parentally engaged to a hermit that sniffed mold."

Bill chuckled. "And how did that work out for you?"

She shrugged. "He was surprisingly a gentleman. However, some of the mold fumes were toxic, so..."

"Oh, I'm so sorry for your loss," Will said, sincerely.

"Yep, he was a great man," Wendy sighed. "The 20 minutes I spent with him had been the best 20 minutes of my life..."

"What a tragic tale," Mabel said, gravely.

Bill stared at her blankly, then said. "OK...I'm going to forget I heard any of that."

"That'll be for the best," Wendy agreed.

So, moving on, the group continued to prepare for trick or treaters, with Mabel helping. Dipper was sleeping on the sofa the whole time, and Bill was stopped by the others more than once from drawing on his face with black markers. At one point, the doorbell rang, catching everyone's attention.

"Our first batch of trick or treaters!" Will exclaimed.

He picked up a nearby bowl of candy, and headed to the front door. Bill followed his brother, and they both stood by the entrance. Holding the bowl in one hand, Will turned the doorknob, and opened the door.

He smiled. "Happy Summer--"

"ARRGH!"

Will leaped back in surprise, falling onto his back, and spilling candy everywhere. The Cipher twins stared, at the two figures standing on the porch. The stranger's were wearing hockey masks stained with blood, one held a rusty shovel, while the other wielded a chainsaw. Expectedly, Will released a high pitched scream, while Bill jumped in front of him protectively.

However, the menacing figures lowered their weapons. One of them then burst into a fit of laughter. "Haha! Our first scare of the night! We got them good!"

"We could've done better," The other said, bluntly. "The blue haired one didn't even wet his pants."

"Now, now," The first masked stranger chided. "We can't make everyone wet their pants. We're not professionals after all."

"Yeah, you're right."

Bill looked between the two. He noticed that they were the same height as him and his brother, which meant they also might be their age. The one that was laughing sounded female, while the other was male. These two weren't monsters, they were a couple of idiots planning to scare them!

"You two!" Bill snapped. "What's the big deal?"

The masked male shrugged. "This isn't personal, Blondie. My sister and I like to scare random people on this holiday, it's become a tradition of ours."

"Your tradition broke my brother!" The blond yelled, gesturing to Will.

Will was curled into a ball on the floor, and murmuring under his breath. "I thought this was a kid's holiday, I thought this was a kid's holiday, I thought this was a kid's holiday..."

"Yeah, we don't make that much friends," The boy in the mask admitted.

The girl leaned closer to Bill, her voice muffled behind her mask. "We're really sorry for the trouble, we can repay you if you like."

Bill tilted his head. "I guess..."

"Good!" She cheered. "My brother and I were gonna go for a walk around town, how about you two join us?"

"What?" Her brother demanded. "We don't know anything about them!"

"Then, we should all introduce ourselves," She insisted, looking at the Cipher brothers. "What's your names?"

"I'm Bill," The blond answered. "And my less fortunate looking clone on the floor is my brother, Will."

Will stood up, smiling gingerly at the sibling on the porch. "Hey, nice to meet you. And might I add, that fake chainsaw looks so real."

"That's because it is," The girl said, holding it up to his face.

The blue haired boy gulped softly, backing away. "Oh...that's nice."

"So, what are your names?" Bill asked. "And, do you mind taking off those masks?"

The two obliged, and tore off their masks almost on the same time. But, as soon as they came off, the brothers were stunned into silence. The pair before them...looked almost identical to Dipper and Mabel. Sure, they appeared younger than the Guardians, but besides from that, the resemblance was almost mindblowing.

"Why are you staring?" The copy of Dipper asked them. "C'mon, my face isn't that ugly, is it?"

Bill narrowed his eyes. "No, and that's the problem."

The brunette blinked. "What?"

"What?"

While both boys stared awkwardly at one another, Will hesitantly asked. "So...what are your names?"

"Oh, of course!" The copy of Mabel beamed. "Our names are Mabel and Dipper."

As expected, the Cipher brothers only looked at them in confusion and amazement. This was the second time they came across doubles of the Pine twins, it couldn't possibly be a coincidence. This definitely meant something. Quickly, Bill fished out his phone from his pocket, and snapped a picture of the two.

"Ah! What the heck!?" Other Dipper complained, rubbing his eyes from the flash.

"Sorry, I was aiming for the cute squirrel behind you," Bill lied.

Other Mabel gasped, then spun around. "Where!?"

"Sadly, it ran off," He said, starting to close the door. "Anyway, we'll see you later!"

"That sounds great," The girl smiled. "Remember to meet us in front of the Summerween store--"

Then, Bill closed the door shut, before stomping towards the living room. Will followed him, a worried expression on his face. A moment later, they saw Wendy and Mabel on the floor, each eating a chocolate bar.

When Mabel saw them, the Guardian quickly the treat behind her back. "We weren't eating your candy or anything!" She insisted, with her mouth full.

"Shooting Star, I have a question for you," Bill told her, seriously.

Mabel swallowed the rest of the chocolate, before giving him a look of curiosity. "Um, okay? Spill."

"Not yet," He said, shooting a look towards the sofa. "I want him to be awake for this." Bill walked over to Dipper, and shook his shoulder. "Pine Tree! Wake up!"

Dipper peeled his eyes open slowly, looking at Bill with a dazed look. Bill chose to ignore how cute the brunette looked while waking up, with his eyes half-lidded and his ruffled brown locks.

"Bill, what's going on?" Dipper asked, sitting up.

Bill showed him the picture on his phone. "I'm assuming you know about this?"

Dipper's eyes widened, and gasped. "The Oak twins."

"Good, you recognize them," He said. "Mind telling me what the hell is going on?"

The male Guardian breathed deeply, before saying. "I can explain, you see...Mabel and I didn't always look like this."

"What does that mean?" Will asked.

"I'll try to make it sound simple," Dipper said, then went on to explaining. "Similar to how Demons take a new form every time they die, Guardians have multiple counterparts when they're born. Our kind is originated from space matter, and every time we're brought into this world, it would cause a ripple through reality, making duplicates throughout history or other dimensions, who usually share the same names as their Guardian counterparts."

"But, what does this have to do with you guys not always looking like this?" Bill asked.

"Because our counterparts develop a human form before we do," Dipper explained. "Unlike Demons, who are born with the ability to change into their humanoid forms, Guardians have to reach a certain age, before they share the same features as their duplicates."

"So, what did you two look like before?" Will asked, curious.

Mabel grinned in return. "Oh, sort of like this!"

The female Guardian was suddenly encased in a cloud of pink glitter. When it cleared, the Cipher twins could only stand in amazement. Mabel was no longer a young woman, but a floating yellow five pointed star, with a rainbow cape, and one single eye.

Will stared at the floating being. "Woah!"

"I know right?" Mabel beamed, circling around the brothers. "This form is so cute, but it takes a lot of energy to maintain." With that, she changed back to normal in an instant.

Bill glanced curiously at Dipper. "How about you?"

Dipper shook his head. "Not gonna happen."

"I'm betting you'll turn into a little pine tree," The blond chuckled. "Who knows, maybe you'll make an adorable air freshener."

Dipper blushed, then slumped back into the sofa. "I'm going back to sleep." Then, he did.

"I guess, he's out of commission," Bill muttered, turning to his brother. "So, we're gonna meet up with those two weirdos or not?"

"Well, we're not going to keep them waiting," Will pointed out.

So, the two brothers headed for the front door. Before they left, Mabel called out to them from the living room.

"While you're out, keep your eyes open for the Summerween Trickster!"

"Yeah, yeah," Bill murmured, closing the door behind him.

"You think that the Summerween Trickster is real?" Will asked him, looking a little nervous.

"If Pine Tree says it's false, then it must be," The blond declared. "He knows everything. Also, Mabel is probably high on candy right now."

"Good point," His brother agreed.

The two walked away from the shack, the night looming over. They were unaware, of the lurking shadow slinking off behind the trees.
