If people were rain,

I was drizzle

and she was a hurricane

Daisy found herself looking through the small window into the room again.

She and Doctor Schulman both pressed against it as they watched Alpha Jay.

He sat on a chair, conversing to the two wolfs.

Victoria, when she had first seen him, had growled, threatening him.

He slowly took her ear and twisted it.

She winced in pain, then winced again when her pain caused her to clench her deformed teeth.

"Alpha please," Doctor Schulman had whispered. He didn't ask much from his Alpha, but he couldn't stand to see another wolf in pain.

Now as the two watched, they each wondered why Jay had come and what he could possibly be talking about.

"I can't hear," Daisy whispered.

Doctor Schulman shook his head, "this is the first time I'm regretting a sound proof medical room."

Daisy sighed in frustration as they continued their watch.

They both shivered when Jay would occasionally raise his hand to pet or stroke Richmond and Victoria.

"Do you think this is some form of torture?" Daisy asked.

"I'm not sure...He didn't do this last time when-," Doctor Schulman paused and glanced at Daisy.

"Tell me," Daisy pressed.

The doctor shook his head, "It's best if the Alpha does."

"He tells me nothing Doc. Tell me just a little. It doesn't have to be about him. If it's about the pack's past then I want to know."

Doctor Schulman looked at Daisy and sighed, "Our pack custom for Alpha is, you cannot be Alpha until you beat the previous Alpha."

Daisy nodded, "So you mean Jay's father?"

Doctor Schulman nodded slowly, "he was... not a good Alpha...he made Jay and Lewis's lives hard."

"Wait..." Daisy felt her heart speed up as she turned to the doctor, "whose Lewis?"

Doctor Schulman turned pale white as he realized he had reveled something about his Alpha that he had not already told her.

"No I didn't realize....," He quickly turned around and left Daisy in the hall.

Later that night, as Daisy and Jay did their routine snuggle under the moon and a warm blanket, Daisy asked the question that had bothered her all day.

"Who is Lewis?"

Jay stiffened under her. She looked up and shivered at the hard glare directed towards her. He was mad.

"Who told you."

Daisy shook her head. She wouldn't give Doc away.

"Who told you."

"I just heard!" She said, lying to cover up for her friend, "I just heard someone say the name."

Jay continued his glare at her. He knew she was lying and already suspected that the culprit was Doctor Schulman. He had done it on accident. Jay already knew.

"Lewis is... my brother..."

Daisy felt her mouth drop open as she absorbed this news.

"Younger or older?"

Jay stayed silent.

"Jay please," Daisy hated begging from him, but she didn't want to be shut out from him. She could already see the walls in his eyes. Already tell the darkness that was creeping through his mind.

"Daisy I don't think I should open up to you."

His words hit her hard, leaving her breathless. "Why?" She asked.

"Daisy I know....I know you probably won't stay. I know you live up to your name. Wanderer. Seeker. I can feel your restlessness. I can taste the moon on your skin and see the stars in your eyes. You do not belong with me," Jay's last words caught within his throat as he fought down the emotions that suddenly overwhelmed him.

"You will always have a part of me Jay," Daisy whispered. She was in awe of her mate. In awe of his cleverness and how the moon had blessed her with a mate that seemed to understand her to perfectly.

"But not all of you. I will always just have a fragment of your heart."

Daisy felt tears trail down her face. She could not explain to Jay the emotions that she felt. How could she explain to him that wanderlust consumed her. That she was restless. That things, unknown things, were calling her and pulling here away. That stars were grabbing her hair and taking her.

"Jay I am a child of the Moon. She has blessed me. I am her daughter who does what she wants. I feel her inside me," Daisy took Jay's hand and pressed it against her chest, "can't you feel how wild it is? How so much of it is consumed by the moon and her light? I feel it. Pulling me. I've always gone were it takes me."

Jay stared silently where his hand laid. He closed his eyes and felt her heart beat. They stayed silent as they each listened to it.

"I know," he said in a strained voice, "You help so many people. Who am I to selfishly take you away from them?"

Daisy leaned over and kissed him.

He felt even more in that moment, the taste of the moon upon her.

They pulled away after a while, Daisy resting her head upon his chest and he wrapped his arms around her.

"The moon blessed me with you for a reason Jay. She knows your heart."

Jay stared silently up at the moon, registering how full it was. He thought it was with some irony that the moon had blessed him with Daisy. Because he out of all wolves knew that nothing stayed. That nothing lasted forever. That everything eventually left him.

Was that why then? Because he knew the pain of loss more keenfully than others? Or because she knew he could handle such a thing?

He wanted to laugh at the moon. No one could handle this. He wondered if she would protect her daughter from the madness that sunk into mates if they were away for too long. He wondered if Daisy thought about it. If she knew. Or maybe she was content to think that the moon would bless them both and make them not suffer.

But a bond was a bond.

No matter how strong.

"So is Lewis your older or younger brother?"

Jay looked down to meet Daisy's curious eyes.

"Come on Hot stuff. I've told you things about me that I've told no one else. I may leave, but I'll come back to you. I'll always come back to you."

She snuggled down closer to him and Jay felt his heart suddenly lighten at the promise.

"He's my younger brother."

"Where is he?"

Jay looked up at the moon again and said, "he mated with a female Alpha. He is content to let her run the pack and be her 'luna' of sorts."

Daisy smiled at the idea.

"Why doesn't he come and visit?"

"He...," Daisy felt the tension in Jay's body again, "He doesn't like this place. To many memories. Maybe after Grace is well, we can visit him."

Daisy stayed silent and continued snuggling deeper into Jay's warm arms.

"Tell me a secret Jay," she whispered.

"What kind of secret," he asked, trapped in their small bubble and how close her lips were.

"Any secret. A secret you've never told anyone."

Jay looked down at his beautiful mate. The woman that he loved but couldn't admit to her yet.

"I...shifted when I was eight."

Daisy stilled within his arms.

"How," she whispered, her voice strained.

Jay however stood up, softly grabbing her and placing her wrapped in the blanket, on the chair.

He stayed silent as he bent down and kissed her forehead, before walking away.

For the second time that night, Daisy felt tears form. She had never cried much, but there was something about having a connection with another person, about feeling and seeing their pain. And about them not letting you in to comfort and help them.

Instead Daisy watched the silent retreat of Jay's back.
