Tell me the story

about how the sun

loved the moon so much

he died every night

to let her breathe

The crispness of fall hung in the air. The summer months had passed to Alpha Jay's relief. He had never liked summer. The leaves were changing in color. The air now held a certain coolness to it. The transformation came at the right time.

It felt like his own life was transforming vastly.

The main reason- Daisy.

He had left the clinic after she called him her embarrassing pet name in front of Doctor Schulman. He felt uncomfortable being pushed outside his comfort zone like this. Daisy said things around him that he normally would have shut down. But from his mate, he found it both cute and traumatizing.

They still had their date tonight. Alpha Jay had an idea of what to do. He didn't know if Daisy would enjoy it or not though. The extra worry gnawed away inside of him.

Focus. Jay commanded himself. He needed his mind on pack duties right now. Daisy now held a certain part of his mind- a part that would always be thinking of her. But he didn't need his whole thoughts consumed by her. He needed to still get done his duties. For his pack.

Jay dropped the binder off in his office, deciding he needed to look at the pack warriors and check on their progress.

Within the Alba Rosa pack, every member was required at least two years of warrior training. After those two years, they had to make a choice of if they wanted to continue being a warrior or if they wanted to branch out and become something else. There was no special treatment just because of gender. Both males and females were required to train.

Stepping into the training zone, Alpha Jay eyed the many warriors. They all ranged in different age. He had three generals who oversaw the whole operation. Each General was assigned a different skill level. Beginner, Intermediate and Expert warriors.

Choosing to see how the beginners were doing, Alpha Jay spotted the General in charge of the group- Victoria.

"Alpha," she said, nodding her head down in respect.

"Victoria," Alpha Jay replied, standing next to her to look at the group of newly shifted wolfs that were running laps around the track. "How is their progress?"

"Good for the most part," Victoria said smiling without teeth at Alpha Jay, "Some have already expressed interest in continuing their training," she laughed then, saying, "others have already expressed interest of the opposite."

Alpha Jay gave a small smile. He could tell who some of the wolves Victoria was talking about were. A group of lean athletic wolves were racing ahead of the group, their skin reflecting with sweat but their faces smiling and eyes bright with the physical activity. And then in the back of the group, there were some who grumbled as others passed them. They glared at the ground or huffed away at the track, showing however they could their displeasure at being forced to do unwanted physical activity.

"It's only for a little while," Alpha Jay said, keeping his face straight, but on the inside feeling guilty for forcing someone to do something they didn't like.

"It's good for them Alpha," Victoria said, "They need the physical activity so their skin side can match their wolf. That way the wolf doesn't overpower them in a transformation. This is good practice so they can handle their shift later on."

Alpha Jay felt a slight annoyance at Victoria telling him what he already knew. He wasn't brainless. That's why he had everyone do required training. Instead of voicing his displeasure though he turned to Victoria and said, "Remember to fill out your weekly report on their status. And make it neater this time," he let some of his power leak out, watching as Victoria bowed her head in submission.

"Yes, Alpha."

Alpha Jay gave one last nod before walking away. He talked to his other generals, Richmond who was in charge of intermediate and Jackson who lead the experts, asking and telling them the same thing.

Walking away, Alpha Jay caught a few comments as Victoria and Richmond talked. They were mated. "He's so OCD about his paperwork," Victoria said.

A growl came from Jackson who had heard the comment, "Watch it Vic. That OCD is what keeps this pack running."

Alpha Jay kept his shoulders back and high as he walked out and to his office. He didn't need to listen to them. Entering his work space, he looked around at the organized files and binders.

He did have OCD. Not a soul knew but Doctor Schulman, John and Grace but the Alpha let no one in his office. Not even John. He had everything where he needed it. The pencils were lined up, and the papers were evenly stacked.

He wasn't OCD to where he needed everything cleaned, or he had to do something a certain number of times. He just needed to follow his routines. He needed his stuff in the exact place that he had left it.

He had a category and specific place for all of his binders and papers and objects.

But Jackson was right. It was that OCD that kept the pack running. Most Alpha's couldn't handle the pressure of keeping a pack as large as Jay did. Sometimes they had to assign several Betas. Jay was good though. He had a system for everything.

He started up his morning routine. Phone calls, paper, email.

The morning went by quickly enough. Jay had phoned in Mason, confirming his story that Daisy had been the healer that helped Shae.

"You and Daisy are mates!?" Mason exclaimed through the phone.

"Yes," Alpha Jay said. He was reorganizing his pens by color while he talked.

"Man that's great," Mason said through the phone, "Shae loves Daisy. We'll come down and visit you to see her."

"That sounds good," Alpha Jay said.

"Haven't seen that quirky wolf since she left our pack. Must have been about four years ago, but we got Charles from it."

Alpha Jay could hear the warmth coming from Mason's voice on the other line. Jay couldn't help himself though. He had to know more about his mate.

"Did she just leave without warning?" He asked Mason.

"Oh yea. I offered to drive her anywhere she wanted, but she refused. Just asked if I could help her get the backpack on her wolf. It was such a funny sight, a wolf wearing a back pack. Does she still have that tan one? She held that one between her teeth."

Alpha Jay sighed at the rambling thoughts that Mason spewed forth. "Yes, she carries what you described."

"Well, she just ran into the woods with her bags. Went to the next pack. Was only about an hour drive from mine but I'm guessing her wolf made it there in a day."

Alpha Jay sighed at the information, "so she doesn't have a pack?"

The line went silent for a few seconds until Mason spoke saying, "She didn't talk much about herself. Just about packs she had been to. But she's been traveling since she was thirteen. At least that's what Shae told me."

Alpha Jay couldn't imagine the thought of being alone without a pack for so long. Mason seemed to read his thought through the phone, "she gets people, she really does Jay. She makes them love her so fast, but she just...doesn't stick around. Shae told me she can't stay in one place too long because she doesn't want to feel trapped."

Jay didn't really want to take the advice and council of Shae. She was a pack councilor and consoled wolves minds. She often gave complicated explanations for why people acted the way they did. Jay just thought that sometimes people acted certain ways because they wanted to. No hidden meaning or scared past behind it.

It ruffled his fur when Shae one time caught onto his organized papers and files and claimed it was him saying he needed some control in his life. If anything he had too much control.

"Thanks, Mason," Jay simply said, not wanting to get into it with his friend.

He hung up after that.

Masons' words though seemed to echo in his mind. "she doesn't want to feel trapped..."

Would Jay trap her? He wanted to talk the details out with her later when they had gotten to know each other better, but Alpha Jay had hoped that one day Daisy would be his Luna. The packs Luna. It was the obvious result of being his mate.

But would she want that? He had never thought of an outcome in which a wolf wouldn't pick their mate. But he could tell already that she was so free-spirited. "Some call me Wanderer..."

Jay had to shake his head to rid himself of these unwanted thoughts.

He had too much on his plate as it was. He needed to lead his pack now without the support of a Beta.

He would deal with that problem when it came.

Taking out his phone, he sent a quick message to Doctor Schulman, "Tell Daisy to be ready by six." His phone vibrated in response as he looked and read the reply, a smile coming to his face.

"She'll be ready."

So for some reason "Moon Child" is ranked #947?? I'm not really sure how this whole rank thing goes (because I have another Werewolf story that I wrote that has more votes but isn't ranked?) but hey I'm happy! hahaha this probably won't last long and when I look in the morning it won't be there anymore so *screenshot* just for the memories!

Also sorry that today's update was posted so late peepers- I literally just got off work and was seriously debating blowing off today's chapter but DEDICATION WON THROUGH. So double pat on the back to me for having the energy to open my laptop.

Phew, I have to go to bed now to get up to go BACK TO WORK!? (gah what is this life *cries into my slightly annoyed cat*)

But what did you think of this chapter?!

You know what to do!

Comment, vote and all that other jazz!

Loves,
