"you have?" the o.b. asked.

"i want to try and save the other twin. i wouldn't be able to live with myself if i didn't."

"would you like to come in tomorrow and consult on making a medical plan?"

"yes, please. does 5 work?"

"i have an open slot. see you tomorrow."

"see you." madelyn ended the phone call. she turned around to see who was coming from behind her.

"hey, derek."

"was that the o.b.?"

"yeah. i made my decision. i'm gonna do everything i can to make sure both my babies survive."

"that's great!" derek said, digging his hand into his right pocket.

"here. this is the phone number to the best fetal surgeon i know. just, if you call her, don't mention me." derek offered, handing her a piece of paper with a phone number on it.

"why?"

"we don't get along very well. there's... history. now, follow me. we gotta go check up on our patient and i need you in surgery."

"thank you derek."

"don't worry. i just want to make sure you're twins are okay."

"you're gonna be retracting it for the next 14 hours, so i'm just saying i hope you have strong backs." bailey said as madelyn walked into the scrub room.

"holy, that's a lot of tumor." madelyn marveled.

"i need you to assist me in the surgery." derek instructed as madelyn and him start to scrub.

christina and george finished scrubbing and left to set up in the o.r. leaving madelyn, shepherd, burke, and bailey alone in the scrub room. meredith popped through the scrub room door.

"mr. levangie has agreed to dbs... if we do it today. if he leaves he won't come back." meredith said at the door of the scrub room.

"don't worry, dr. shepherd. it'll take hours before we get to the spine. i'll page you." burke assured.

"all right then. let's do it." derek said as he walked out of the scrub room. madelyn finished scrubbing and went into the o.r.

"hey george." madalyn said, standing next to him.

"how did you get on this surgery? you've been running around with shepherd all day. you're like.. a mini him."

"oh, shut up george. i'm here to help shepherd when he gets back."

"of course you are. he always lets you in on the best surgeries."

"maybe that's because i deserve them."

"or maybe it's because he's sleeping with your sister." christina mumbled.

"i heard that! that has nothing to do with it yang! i'm his intern."

"you're his bitch." christina scoffed.

"you know, i know you're sleeping with burke. it's obvious, okay. you're here cause you let him in your pants. george and i are here cause we deserve to be here. so what, he's sleeping with meredith?" madelyn snapped before turning back to george.

"hello? is this addison montgomery, the fetal surgeon?"

"this is she. who am i talking

to?"

"uh, i'm grey. madelyn grey. i live in seattle."

"hello madelyn, is there a reason you called my personal phone number?"

"yes. yeah, there is. i'm pregnant."

"uh, congratulations."

"sorry, that's not why i called. i have a nuchal cord, and i'm pregnant. with twins."

"i'm sorry to hear that."

"can you help me? please, i want both these babies to live and someone told me you're the best."

"did this someone also give you my phone number?"

"yeah, they did."

"and do they have a name?"

"they told me not to tell you, sorry."

"okay.. well there's one problem. i could probably fit you in, but i live in new york."

"new york. that's not too far."

"it's halfway across the states from seattle."

"i'll come to you."

"are you sure?"

"yes. i'm sure."

"how many weeks are you?"

"three months. 13 weeks."

"so, the fetuses are still young."

"yeah, they are."

"you caught this really early, which is good. i'll have a better estimation when i see you, but i'm thinking we wait a few weeks before operating. but i think i can save it."

"thank you so much dr. montgomery!"

"it's my pleasure, ms grey."

"it's dr. grey."

"you're a doctor too?"

"surgical intern."

"interesting. when do you think you can fly to new york."

"as early as next week."

"perfect. i'll see you next week."

addison ended the phone call. madelyn started to cry tears of joy.

"madelyn?" derek walked up to her in the hall way.

"thank you derek. dr montgomery said she'll help me!"madelyn cried, throwing her arms around him.

"that's great! you didn't mention my name, right?"

"i didn't. i leave for new york in a few days. i'm going to go talk to richard." madelyn said before running to the chiefs office.

"chief webber?" madelyn knocked on the door to his office.

"come in madelyn."

"chief, i need one month of leave."

"that's a long time. i don't know-"

"it's for my babies, chief."

"you're pregnant?"

"yeah. three months with twins. but there's a problem. i have a nuchal cord and i need to leave for new york in a few days to have a surgery. dr. montgomery is preforming it. please dr. webber, i need to do this." madelyn begged.

"that's.. a lot. i'm sorry you have to deal with all of that. you can have the one months leave, but no vacation days unless you physically can't work or too sick to be around patients, understand?"

"i under stand. thank you sir. i owe you."

"you don't owe me anything. now, get out of here, go back to work."

madelyn smiled before running out of the room.
