《DreamScape》PART 3: THE WAY GEMSTONES ARE MADE - XI

It was a few years later that Jungkook went viral. A letter of his spread across the world; a letter written to all of humanity, which would eventually come to be translated into every language there is. Some very few people, such as the core of their friend group, would recognise it for the utter truth. Mostly though, people thought it to be fiction, and for a short time he was even rumoured to be a professional writer. But that isn't important; in the end what mattered was that his message spread throughout the globe, into classrooms where it made people dream, debate and grow.
It was the heritage he would leave behind when he died of old age, many years later. It was called 'A Memoir of the Meddling Gods'.
And it ended like this.
"The DreamScape is a strange place. It is magic and physics; it is unfathomable.
It sees someone who could do lots of good, someone who is suffering, and it saves them. They are the DreamCatcher.
Then it looks through the universe for someone who could match with them, someone who can fit perfectly, a soulmate. It brings them together, gives them a chance to save the Catcher. They are the DreamSoul.
I have been both.
I met my husband in the DreamScape.
At first, I was the DreamSoul, brought to him every night so I could lift him up. The DreamScape showed me the very essence of his soul, because it knew I would fall in love with it, with him. With all that he is.
At the time, my Tae was crumbling under the pressure, forced to be someone he hated, forced to sing meaningless things and project painful stereotypes. I have come to accept that I saved him.
How? Quite simply- by loving him.
When he gave up on his music, I latched onto the songs he was trying to destroy. When he was being controlled, I bolstered his courage to do something about it. When he lost faith in himself, I restored it.
And so, when I had fulfilled my purpose, the DreamScape separated us. It is a truly magnificent creation, but it is an ephemeral dream, something never meant to truly bring you together. DreamCatchers and DreamSouls meet so one can save the other, before fading into the night.

So no, we were never meant to meet. I don't know how we broke through the barriers that separated us, but one night, he found me again. This time, he the Soul, I the Catcher.
For a time we were happy, apart but together. Still fated to never meet, but following the DreamScape's purpose.
Do you see the problem yet?
Here it is: The DreamCatcher is someone who is suffering, doomed, on the brink of disappearing. I'd saved him from that by loving him when he was failing to love himself. But what about me?
It was the fire.
The fire was my suffering and doom. The fire was where I was meant to die, I know that now. The Dreamscape brought us back together because it knew that I would need saving.
And he did. He saved me.
We bent many of the DreamScape's rules in our search for each other, but we are soulmates. We were so, so lucky, to be the ones picked. I think the DreamScape saw that together we could do great things in that way, and so it gave us a chance: a chance to save each other. So we could later save others.
Since the fire, Taehyung has done his best to make the world a more accepting place. People and societies change, and these issues we have fought would have faded into pop cultures with or without us, future generations mocking us and saying 'I still can't believe they use to think that...'. But I believe my Tae was a catalyst for that.
You know, he went on to do such amazing things! He broke through so many barriers, brought so many people to the light, gave an entire piece of our population courage and hope. When he came out, thousands of people followed him. When he began wearing women's clothes and pushing open fashion, trying to makes things less about gender and more about people, his fans, old and new, followed him like an unstoppable tsunami.
I'm not saying it was because of him, of course it couldn't be just him, but when the Korean Government suddenly accepted gay marriage three years later, he was amongst those hailed for the change. Of course he was. That was what had made him illegible for the DreamScape: it knew he could help bring about that change.

But why him, why Tae? I find him to be the most amazing person in the world, but other brilliant, inspiring people came before him. So what made him this huge conduct for change? Honestly, I think some of it was just luck, or more like fate. So many people had the opportunity to do what he did for the world. Many people took those chances, and they were the ones who paved the way for us. But Tae was in the right place at the right time, and he had something else to help him: more brilliant souls to help him on his path.
Kim Namjoon.
Kim Seokjin.
Min Yoongi.
Jung Hoseok.
Park Jimin.
Me.
As a group, we took to championing all of this, spurred on by something we didn't really understand. We had seen magic, something more in the world, and we were determined to share it.
The movie, of course, played a huge role in this. It just so happened that Taehyung started his activism as we were filming it. The film turned out to be the biggest success of my career. It broke every Korean record, made it to Hollywood and won several Oscars. It made it like this because, as a superhero movie, it was everything that Marvel and DC addicts loved. The gay relationship in it wasn't central, it just was. So natural, that when most of South Korea had watched the movie, lured in by the promise of special effects and trendy themes, they saw a same-sex couple and it didn't matter.
It wasn't a trend, it wasn't forced or strange. It was just love, as love had always been.
So many things just happened to fall into place after that, as people took empowerment from us and slowly, the tides changed. BigHit continued to make movies, and under Namjoon and Yoongi's guidance, it involved more and more of those themes in its projects. Jimin and Hoseok went on to become a celebrity couple severely involved in charity work; later hailed as true representatives of South Korea. Seokjin turned to acting, and as he took over Hollywood, he spread the message of acceptance in his own way.
So what about me? I've done nothing for the world; all I've done is love him. All I've done is stand behind my friends and show my faith in them as they tried to change the world for the better. All I've done is stand behind Taehyung, a silent supporter, as he leads thousands towards a more accepting world. So maybe that was the reason I was eligible for the Dreamscape. Maybe my sheer, unadulterated love for Tae is what is truly my defining quality. And you know what? I'm happy with that.
If my one purpose in life is to make Kim Taehyung happy, then I will be content.
So there you have it, my convoluted account of our love story. The DreamScape exists, as an entity which saw a dark future and decided to change it. It saw an opportunity, where many good people would fade, either in death or despair, and changed it. It brought us all together because it knew we would bond like few people do. And at the centre it placed my Taehyung, to inspire us.
I know he will continue to spend his life loving others, showing them they can love themselves no matter what, and I will be there to love him in return.
So if you do anything right in your life, pick one: You could either do your best to improve the world, or you can support someone else who is trying to do so. It is okay to not be the one changing everything and looking forwards. Sometimes, it can be enough to give all your love and support to those who do the right things. And in your own way, you'll be improving the world, day by day."
THE END.
