《Not Never (Complete)》Chapter 20 - Part 2

"It's just." She shrugged. "I've been hoping this would happen but now that it finally has I just need a moment to take it in." "My father's moving out. Well, in fact, he has got another job." She clasped her hands together feeling nervous about the future. With her parent's continuous bickering her future had been solid and now it wasn't.

"You're allowed to feel apprehensive about the future."

She nodded. But it was only deep down inside did she admit she was also fearful of what the future meant without Maddox. The thought made it hard to breathe. It made no sense for her to feel this strongly about a boy she had only known for a short while. She had been with Logan longer but he had never made her feel the way Maddox did.

They only had a few weeks left and then he would be going off to college. And she? She would be staying behind. Was there any point to spending more time with him if she knew there could never be more than just right now?

Before she would have said no but now. Things were a lot more complicated. A sexy, green eyed bad boy who made her heart stutter and start complicated.

"I don't want to think about it right now." She moved closer to him.

"So what do you want to do right now?"

Her hand reached for his. "I don't care. Maybe for once I don't want to be worrying about the future." It was saying a lot. It had been the only thing that had driven her for so long.

"Then we wont."

Her eyes drifted to his mouth. "I want to shut out everything except you."

He pulled her closer. "Done."

His fingers touched her chin and lifted her mouth to his. The brief kiss ended and she bit on lip as she stared up into his eyes his hands resting on her hips.

"It wasn't the same without you the last few days." Being with him calmed the storm in her thoughts and there was only the two of them, no one else. No parents, college or future. Just two teenagers in the moment who wanted to be with each other.

"Trust me, it hasn't exactly been a picnic at here either," he remarked.

She frowned. "Why?"

He pulled a hand through his hair. "My dad has been giving me a hard time."

"I'm sorry," she murmured.

"It's fine. It was worth it."

"Was it really?" she asked, not liking how she kept getting him into trouble. What if he went too far and they kicked him out the school just weeks away from graduation?

She didn't want him to mess up his future just to teach some assholes a lesson.

"You ever going to tell your parents about us?"

His quiet question took her by surprise.

"Is there any point?" she asked before she really thought about her response.

He frowned and he moved her away from him. "Then I should take you home."

He was already heading for the doorway when she realised the mistake she had made. She grabbed his wrist to stop him.

"No...that didn't come out right..." she tried to explain as he turned to face her with his arms crossed.

"Then tell me what you meant to say."

She rubbed her forehead as she tried to find the right words to explain what she meant. "You know...this." She waved the space between them. "This had a time limit."

He worked his jaw as he listened but he didn't say anything.

Feeling like she was making a mess of things she touched his arm. "You're going off to college in a few weeks." She held his eyes. "And then what happens?"

"I haven't decided what I want to do." So in his mind there was no end to it yet.

"It doesn't make any sense to continue with something that can't last but..." she swallowed. She wasn't used to being so open with her thoughts and emotions.

"But?" he prompted.

She let out a sigh. "But I can't seem to stop thinking about you."

It was the most she was going to reveal. It was more than she had been prepared to admit.

His features softened and his arms dropped to his sides.

"Being here with you makes no logical sense." She shook her head gently.

"What if this is the only thing that makes sense." His voice was soft. His eyes captivated hers and she couldn't look away.

His hand caressed her cheek as she stared into his eyes, trying to find a label for what was happening between them.

"But what happens after graduation?" she asked. She hated how needy she sounded but she had to know.

He did not fit in the future she had worked toward and she didn't fit in his.

"I don't know," he whispered. "But I know I only want to be here with you right now."

Her heart inflated and filled her chest making it difficult to breathe. He had this way of blocking out everything else. Common sense and reasoning evaporated and all that remained was the way he made her feel.

His lips neared hers and she held her breath as his lips touched hers.

His kiss was brief because he lifted his mouth from hers. "Why don't we just enjoy the moment and we can figure everything else later."

She nodded as she wet her lips. She ignored warning from her subconscious that allowing herself to get closer to Maddox would only lead to heartache. They had no future. They both knew that.

It was crazy.

But what she felt for him was crazy. No one had ever made her feel the way he did. She couldn't remember exactly the moment he had gone from the annoying bad boy to the one who made her heart flutter.

"You're thinking too much." He kissed her.

When he touched her she couldn't think. Her hands went to his shoulders when he deepened the kiss and held her waist.

She wanted him to touch her and make her feel alive. She didn't want to think.

His hand cupped the back of her neck as his tongue moved against hers slowly. Her stomach dipped and she held on tighter needing more.

He broke the kiss but held her. Her chest rose and fell with each deep breath.

"I don't want you to think I invited you over here just to make out because my parents are away."

Her hands slid lower to rest flat against his chest. She was still trying to catch her breath.

"What if I just want to...make out." It took a lot for her to admit that to him. After having a taste of what he could do to her she wanted more.

He smiled, the type of smile that made her heart flutter in her chest like a butterfly. His hand rose and put a stray strand of hair behind her ear. A seriousness set in. "Stay with me tonight."

"Tonight?" she asked breathless.

He nodded.

She hesitated.

"We don't have to do anything."

She swallowed.

"We can just hang out."

Her whole life she felt like she had been sleep walking. Numb. And for the first time she felt like she was wide awake, living every moment to the fullest. Maddox had opened her eyes and she wanted more.

"I can tell my mom I'm sleeping over at Diane's." She was already figuring out what to tell her mom and whether she should ask Diane to cover for her if her mom called. But then she didn't want to have to explain where she really was to her friend. She wasn't ready to admit to her friends how important Maddox had become in her life. Maybe she was in denial and didn't want the voices of reason to talk her out of what she was considering.

"And where would I sleep?" she asked softly, wanting him to say the words.

"In my bed."

Her stomach flipped and she raised her finger to trace his mouth. His lips were firm beneath her touch.

"I don't want you to feel like we have to do anything. Honestly I'm happy to just sleep next to you."

She smiled. "I need to make a phone call."

She reached for her phone and dialled her home. Her mom answered and it only took a few minutes to get the okay from her and that she would see her in the morning. Her mom probably thought she needed time with her friends after the announcement of the divorce. It was only because she felt sure that her mom wouldn't suspect a thing, she didn't call Diane to cover for her.
