Third Person

"WHERE IS MY FUCKING BAGEL?" A loud, yet familiar voice rang out from downstairs. The boys immediately ran from their rooms to the door with smiles on their faces, all but one. She matched their wide smiles.

As much as she hated to admit it, she missed those buttheads. The most contact they've had were facetime calls and she was excited to see them in person for the first time in three months.

She opened her arms, waiting for the first person to hug her but she was surprised on who it was. She heard another set of footsteps come rushing down the stairs and their arms engulfed her in a warm hug.

Their head was tucked behind her shoulder but by process of elimination and the shocked faces of her family, it could only be one person.

Blake.

She hesitantly patted his back, feeling weirded out by the fact that the one who hated her most, was the first one to hug her. He eventually pulled back but not without whispering something in her ear.

"Talk later?" He asked, almost pleading by the tone of voice he used. She furrowed her eyebrows but nodded. He looked relieved before walking over to the rest of the family.

"Well are you guys just going to stand there or are you going to give your favorite stepsister a hug?" They snapped out of their trances and Hayden was the first to run up and hug her.

"Hey squirt, you missed me?" She teased, he backed away, vigorously shaking his head.

"No." He looked down at the ground, Ray pulled him back in the hug but not before ruffling his fluffy hair. "Hey, that took forever to do." He complained as he walked over to the mirror, trying to fix his hair as she laughed.

Liam was next to step up, always ready for a hug.

"Don't forget about me pumpkin." She groaned at the nickname, until she remembered Micheal's nickname for him.

"I would never, Hemsworth." She smirked, Liam turned away and glared at his elder brother which he only shrugged.

"I will never forgive you for teaching her that." He spat and trotted back over.

"Who's next?" She opened her arms again, Micheal stepped up ready for a hug but was bewildered when he was pushed away.

"Remember what you promised me at the hospital?" He thought for a moment before shaking his head, she crossed her arms with a look of disgust. "I want my bagel." She pouted, Micheal had a puzzled look, still trying to figure out what she was talking about before it hit him.

"How about you can have a bagel as soon as we get home, alright?"

"Oh my gosh, you cannot be serious. How do you even remember that?" He groaned, she just shrugged. He stomped over to the kitchen and Rayland smiled at her victory.

"Come on over Jaylen." He practically jumped when he heard his name, he was waiting for his turn. He rushed over and wrapped his arms around her.

"I missed you too, cheerio." She practically wheezed out because of the strength this boy had.

"Oh sorry, Ray. I just can't believe you're back." He cheered, one of the reasons he got his nickname. She laughed and patted his back until he eventually let go.

"I guess it's my turn." Jaxon came over with his arms wide, with a wide smile, she returned the gesture. They stayed for a few seconds before returning to their spots.

It was a few seconds of awkward silence before Jayden slowly stepped up, standing about two feet away. Out of nowhere, he put her in a headlock and ruffled her hair.

"Stop, I just did my hair." She laughed, struggling to get out.

Turns out a break is just what they needed. Jayden let go of that useless grudge he had against her and she learned to forgive him, for real this time.

"Now you know how it feels." She heard a voice in the distance, Hayden stood there with a sly smirk on his face. She rolled her eyes and forced herself out of the headlock. She pushed Jayden away as he laughed and ruffled her hair again.

Paul came over and gave her a big hug and a kiss on the forehead before heading back.

The last one standing was Blake. He stood awkwardly with his arms behind his back, his head slightly downward with his eyes focused on the floor.

The silence was soon interrupted by Micheal walking into the room with a plate in his hand. Rayland's eyes lit up at the plate as she could smell the toasty scent of the contents from the plate.

Before he could make it over to her, he was crushed by a hug. The bagel almost dropped from his hands but he held onto it, knowing the consequences.

"Thanks, bro." She let go and grabbed the paper plate from his hands. He chuckled and nodded.

She hurried up the stairs but not before calling out, "You coming or not?"

"So what did you want to talk about?" She plopped down on her bed, Blake following shortly after. He started biting his nails, a bad habit he picked up as a kid .

"Do you really not remember me?" He voiced out after a few seconds, the question caught her off guard. The bagel didn't even seem important anymore as she put the plate down on her bedside table and furrowed her eyebrows, letting out a humorless laugh.

"What-" She scoffs, "what the hell are you talking about Blake?" Her response made this conversation seem pointless to Blake, clearly she didn't care so why should he.

He was about to leave but then he thought about it. Even if she didn't care, she still deserved an explanation as to why he was an ass. Besides, maybe they could start a bond again, one that he desperately missed.

"I know about the accident." He said abruptly which confused her even more. "I know that you lost your memory, I just don't know why you kept it a secret. It makes things so much clearer." He sighed, trying to make the conversation go the right way but to his dismay, it did the opposite.

"It's not like I kept it a secret, it's just not something you tell a group of strangers that seem to hate you. Besides, nobody asked." She shrugged.

"Makes sense." He laughed but she didn't find any humor in the conversation anymore.

"What is the point of this? That you know this 'big, bad secret'," She quoted, "because if it is, you can leave now." She directed him to the door and picked her plate back up.

"No, no it's not. I just wanted to know if you remembered me or not."

"Well, obviously I don't, so please enlighten me on what the hell you are talking about." He let out another sigh.

"Do you remember any of your friends?" She shook her head. "We used to be friends."

With those words, she laughed. She laughed the hardest she has ever since she was shot. Them, friends? There was no way she would ever be friends with someone like him.

"That was a good one." She laughed as she took a bite of the second half of the bagel.

When she was met with his blank face, her laughter immediately stopped and replaced it with a frown. She kinda felt bad. It was weird seeing him somewhat vulnerable. He always had a permanent glare or scowl on his face but this time it was just... blank.

"I'm not joking. This was stupid, I'm sorry. I'll go." He tried to rush out of the room but he was stopped by her voice.

"Wait." He slowly turned around to her, patting a spot on her bed. He came back but instead took a seat on the spinning chair. "When?"

He explained everything that he could remember. He didn't remember much because at the time he was a kid himself but he could remember their best memories. He thought that they could help regain those memories but they didn't.

She tried to find any of the memories that he was talking about but her mind came up empty. Maybe he was mistaking her for someone else and if that was the case she felt bad. It was obvious that this person was very important to him but it was also obvious this person wasn't her.

That was until one word changed everything.

Cookie.

To the naked eye, this word means nothing, it's just a simple, doughy treat. But not to her, to them.

"Have you ever realized that if you add an 'ie' to our last names, they become desserts?"

"No."

"Those could be our nicknames. Mine is Cookie and yours is Brownie."

"No."

"Why?"

"Because they're corny."

"Oh, okay then."

"Ugh, fine."

"Yay, Brownie!"

"Shut up."

"Are you forgetting something, Brownie?"

"No."

"Are you sure?"

"Yes."

"..."

"Cookie."
