Jeon Jungkook thinks his heart might explode.
He knew he was emotional,
his hand trembling slightly
as he leaned into her.
He had wanted to bring them closer.
He'd meant to show her how he felt.
He'd meant to claim a little,
For them to each claim the other a bit.
He knew exactly why he was kissing her.
He knew exactly what he wanted.
He wanted to tell her something, to share what his words couldn't,
because Jungkook was never any good at talking,
but surely she could see what was in his eyes
because he could barely hold himself together
and he definitely couldn't hide
what he knew was written all over his expression.
He wasn't even trying to hide it.
If they shared a breath
she would know exactly how he felt
He her to know-
But the moment his lips met hers,
Jeon Jungkook was lost.
---
He went somewhere that was inside his mind,
but still right here,
But he was seeing her,
she was seeing him,
they were standing somewhere golden.
They were standing in an ocean of gold.
The breeze running through her hair was golden, the look on her face.
They were each holding up one hand,
their Bonding hand...
stretched out toward each other,
their fingertips a breath apart.
And Jungkook knew,
they were supposed to reach out for each other,
or someone was supposed to pull away.
They were supposed to choose...
But she just looked at him softly,
As she turned her wrist,
so her reaching hand was palm up...
A gentle smile on her lips,
as she closed her eyes,
waiting for him...
The shuffling woke Jungkook,
though he never slept lightly, and it shouldn't have.
But he woke gently,
Like something in his chest warmed him,
and him,
And told him it was time.
He opened his eyes.
It was a nurse,
whose eyebrows lifted higher as she took in the scene.
Jungkook was still on top of the covers,
His soulmate under the sheets, curled into him,
her head on his shoulder,
the two of them for all the world at ease
in a hospital bed,
that was clearly too small for this.
He wanted to untangle himself so she could receive a proper checkup and care,

but he didn't want to wake her roughly,
so as the nurse, with a Bighit manager in tow,
stood at the foot of the bed staring at them, mouths agape,
Jungkook's hand,
of its own accord,
ended up brushing her hair to the side gently
away from her cheek,
as he whispered
"hey,"
in a voice so tender that he startled himself.
She didn't wake up.
In fact, she burrowed her face farther into his shoulder, letting out a displeased muffle.
He almost let out of laughter,
.
Jungkook immediately blushes to his ears
as his leader looks at him,
being caught having just woken up,
with a girl in his arms.
It's his worst nightmare, then,
When Taehyung also follows in behind Joon,
And lifts his eyes to Jungkook...
and immediately bursts into a grin.
"This will be fine," you shrug.
An assistant-type looking girl looks up at your voice and bows.
Jungkook sets down your laptop carrier and backpack onto a sofa.
The girl gives the two of you a look and scampers out the door.
"Jungkook!" Jhope's voice drifts over.
"I'll just be in the studio. Let me know if you need Healing,
If you need anything," Jungkook says.
"I'll be fine. I feel so rested," you smile at him.
You try not to think about it, try not to blush any harder.
He nods.
"Me too, actually."
Maybe we should always Heal like that- he bites down on this.
"Jungkookieeeeeeee!" calls Taehyung's voice from down the hall.
Jungkook sighs.
"Go," you laugh.
"I'm feeling fine."
He grins and steps his feet open,
stuttering forward,
pressing his hand against the opposite shoulder.
"I'm feeling just fine, fine fine," he sings, grinning ear to ear.
You burst out laughing.
"Please just go before Hoseok comes to kill you."
Jungkook turns in a flashy circle, like he was finishing a dance,
and then walks down the hall, still waving like he had invisible fans.
On cue,
Jhope's voice, no longer so patient this time, rings out again.
"Jungkook! Come!"
Jungkook turns to smile at you one last time
before he jogs away.
You settle down on the sofa in the dressing room,
trying to still your silly heartbeat,
as you think about Jungkook's crescent eyes
when he laughed and made fun of his own choreography.
You type in your password incorrectly,
twice,
on your laptop.
You sigh, and force yourself to focus.
Being away from work for three days was going to come with a price.

You'd probably need some coffee if you were going to make a dent.
Leaving everything behind, you go in search of the coffee room you knew was on this floor.
----
There's some kind of commotion when you return, a handful of people gathered outside.
A little wary for your work laptop, you push into the room, finding yourself right behind Mira.
Mira gasps.
You gasp too.
Glass bottles of foundation,
plastic pallets of powders,
lay in broken, jagged shards all over the counter and floor.
Liquids drip down the edge of the counter, all mixing together into brown goop.
Once-beautiful makeup brushes lay shattered on the ground,
glitter powder and eyeshadows coating everything in streaks.
Someone had torn open Mira's things, destroying everything.
What a terrible, terrible waste.
And most shocking of all, , are violent letters across the center mirror:
With a shaking voice, Mira turns back around.
"Eun-hee... you were supposed to be here. Watching all the stuff."
You turn to look.
It's the assistant girl she's talking to, the one who left so you and Jungkook could be alone.
The girl only stares, her eyes wide with shock.
"And... why is it only my stuff that's ruined?" Mira looks torn between anguish and anger.
She's right, you realize.
The other stylist's cases stand neatly and unopened against the corner.
"I only went to the bathroom for two minutes, unnie, I don't know what happened."
Eun-hee's face is wild, and she's scared.
Her eyes land on you.
"It's her, she's always been jealous of you," she says, panic in her eyes.
Mira barely even looks toward you.
"She's my friend. She's Jungkook's soulmate. She wouldn't do this. This is my livelihood, Bangtan's livelihood," Mira snaps, her eyes cold for the first time you've ever seen.
"But, it wasn't me, I swear, unnie," Eun-hee dashes forward and grips Mira's hand.
"Please believe me."
Mira pulls her hand back.
"I'm sorry.
Please...
Pack your things... and leave."
Her eyes are wet with tears as the other girl leaves.
-----
And it's lunch time, everybody crowded
into different break rooms and studios and lounges.
With the one topic in discussion.
"But Eun-hee has always been so sweet, I just don't get it," Mira's face pinches together.
She turns away, wiping her cheek.
Jungkook looks at you quietly.
, you try to answer the question he doesn't ask.
He gently nudges you as he walks past, tilting his head outward.
You follow him until you're near the elevators,
alone.
"Hey... It's okay...
If you lost control of the bond for a moment."
Jungkook smiles gently.
"I mean, you saw what I did to Taehyung hyung... when I lost control.
I pushed him into the wall..
He said his back was bruised for a week."
Jungkook laughs sheepishly.
"The bond... it makes us... kind of crazy.
It's okay if you lost control of it.
And that red stuff... the red... energy stuff... it's powerful.
It could easily... make this happen."
Jungkook gestures back in the other direction.
"It's okay."
You shake your head.
"It wasn't me."
Jungkook blinks in surprise.
He tries again.
"Hey, it's okay."
"If it was me, I would admit it.
But it wasn't me," you tell him again.
He furrows his brows together.
"There's nothing to be embarrassed about. It's obviously the bond energy,
it's explosive and would look exactly like this."
He taps his phone open and pulls up a picture.
It's a photo, of a swirling pattern.
Powder and gels sprayed across the mirrors.
"It would look exactly like this," Jungkook nods.
You think about it.
It look like the way the red energy had felt.
"Hey, it's just you and me."
Jungkook lightly brushes his hand against yours.
"You don't have to be scared."
Your heart softens at his tone, but you're starting to feel unheard.
"But... it isn't me," you look at him,
him to believe you.
"I know it looks like it, but... it isn't me, Jungkook."
Jungkook's shoulders sag.
"You can tell me.
I'm... I'm on your side."
And now he sounds confused, and hurt.
"Jungkook, I swear...
I didn't do it."
And you can feel the sadness behind your eyes,
because you know he doesn't believe you.
You can see the disappointment on his face.
He'd wanted you to open up to him,
and you would,
if you had done it.
But you hadn't.
He steps back.
"I thought... we...
after what we...
last night...
we could... share more,
Tell each other things now."
He drops his eyes from yours.
"I know... we think the bond is crazy.
But...
the stuff last night...
It felt so real."
He shakes his head.
"But I guess...
Only...
for me."
He chokes out his last word
and turns
and leaves you,
your hands open,
trying to hold onto something.
