You

-----

You knew that things were wrong for sure this time,

when you opened your eyes and it was noon.

You had slept a whole night, answered the door for five minutes, then slept an entire day and then another night.

That is definitely bad.

Your entire upper body ached.

You need to eat something, you told yourself.

Even broth is better than nothing.

Go.

With a pathetic whimper you could barely believe was coming out of yourself

and embarrassed you even when alone,

you shoved yourself out of the covers,

wheeled to stay balanced as you crashed to and fro into the kitchen.

It's the flu? Maybe? You decided as you threw up the broth into the kitchen sink.

No use trying to eat if I can't keep it down. Definitely the flu.

Your arms and back and upper body ached all over.

It seemed weird that your legs felt fine but whatever. You'll take what blessing you get.

You looked at your phone.

22 missed calls from your best friend and 5 text messages of .

You were a terrible friend, you shamed yourself as you fumbled to speed-dial her.

Something must be wrong if she was like this.

"I'm so sorry-" you sputtered as soon as she picked up, "I was-"

"ARE YOU OKAY? Oh my god," she was sobbing.

You stomach sank. If she's crying something must be very very wrong.

You thought you'd burn alive from the guilt.

"Hey, hey, I'm okay. I'm so so sorry. I came down with the flu, so I've been resting.

I'm so sorry. Are you okay? What's wrong?"

You force the words past your lips as you grew hot with blame.

"What? The flu...?"

"Yeah, I caught the flu. I'm sorry. Really, I am. I didn't think you'd be so worried. Please don't be upset. I'm okay. But who cares. What's going on with you, are you okay?"

"I thought..." her voice staggered with relief.

"Look, some people from Big Hit came by. They said Jungkook soulmate bonded."

"?" you heard yourself say shrilly.

"I know, I couldn't believe it either. But if you think about how many people he touches. Well, higher chances of touching his one and only true girl, right?"

"I... what... but why are you so upset?"

"Did they come see you? They said they'd visit everyone in the standing rock zone by the stage. Anyone who touched Jungkook's hand."

"They did. But they... they said something about tickets. And wanting to investigate who pulled on Jungkook. You know, when he touched the fans. Some people wouldn't let go of him."

You mind spun. Why didn't the BigHit employees give the two of you the same story?

"I think it's because I told them I touched him. They seemed very hush hush about it. They originally gave me the fraud tickets story too. They only told me about his bonding after I said his hand touched my wrist and right away they started checking my hands and telling me all of it."

She sounded a little smug.

"But man I did not think it was going to turn into that drama. They called me back every few hours since then to demand to know if I had suddenly bruised really late for no reason, but I told them no. God I wish I would bruise though! Can you imagine? Being soulmate bonded to Jeon Jungkook? God, whoever she is she is sooo lucky."

It took a few pauses before she realized you hadn't answered her babble.

"Hey... are you doing OK?"

"I'm... honestly having trouble processing this," you manage.

She laughed.

"Yeah it took me a while too."

"Wow." You say, still stunned.

She sighed.

"I'm just happy you're fine. I was so worried.

For a while I was worried because... well... BigHit keep calling me to check up, so they obviously hadn't found his soulmate.

And you weren't answering your phone.

I was scared, I know it's silly because you told me that night you didn't touch his hand, but I was scared that his soulmate was you

and you were just... dying... and I just couldn't reach you...

I didn't know if you had help...

I went by your house and pounded on the door but I figured you must not be home..."

Your breath caught in your chest.

She had come by, to try to make sure you were OK.

She lived so far away.

Two cities away.

She had subwayed and bussed across two cities to check on you, and you'd been fast asleep, ignoring her calls.

"I'm. I'm so sorry," you choked.

"It's OK," she replied immediately.

"I really shouldn't have overreacted. I should have known you were safe. You told me you didn't get to touch him. I don't know why I freaked. I guess there's just so many bonded people who don't meet in time that I... "

She coughed to clear her throat.

"I just panicked is all. It's OK now!"

But you could tell from the residual fear in her voice that it was not OK that you had put her through that.

"I promise! I did not touch him. I'm so, so sorry I had you worried. You're the best. I love you. I'll make it up to you. Let me buy you dinner next weekend?"

You'd hold her hand and apologize to her seriously then too. Thank her for being such a good friend you weren't sure you deserved.

She chuckled, obviously trying to make you feel better.

"You better! I almost called the police. Seriously if you hadn't called me today I might have."

"I'm not bonded, OK? I'm not secretly sporting a huge bruise of death and hiding it, I promise," you grin.

She laughs, genuine again this time.

"I do have the flu though, bruise or not," you whined at her.

"Hey, get some rest then, OK?"

"Alright," you pouted.

It shouldn't have surprised you that you chugged three whole glasses of water this time you felt thirsty, but you did vomit earlier.

Lost plenty of fluids.

And it was good that you're drinking water.

You twisted back into the bedsheets again, meaning only to close your eyes, but before you know it, you drifted off again.

----------

No.

Alarm bells went off in your head,

trying to warn you about terrible danger

as you noticed so many things at once

the moment you reopened your eyes.

First, your right hand hurt terribly.

Muscle spasms raced up and down that arm, and all degrees of hot and cold flashes poured over your body, clearly pulsing out from that hand.

Second, a glance at your phone told you that it was noon.

Again.

That had to be wrong.

Terribly wrong.

That wouldn't make any sense.

Not even if you had a flu.

How could you have possibly slept another entire 24 hours, two days in a row, without waking?

60 hours of sleep was a... a , not the flu.

Third.

Also the thing that horrified you

beyond anything that had ever happened to you

since you remembered being a human being.

As you brought your right hand up to your face to see what the hell was causing the pain, you saw the dark, purple and bright splotches of bruising on your fingertips.

Jungkook

Jungkook was panting for breath, and he knew it.

He tried to breathe quieter when Bang Sihyuk stepped into the hall,

but he knew his face was plastered with cold sweat.

Still, Jungkook held on.

Because if he kept his eyes open,

if he could still open his mouth to argue,

then he could still fight for Bangtan.

Jungkook locked his gaze the older man head on, stubbornly and forcefully, as the Producer and CEO of Bighit looked down upon him.

"You are not OK."

Was all Bang Sihyuk said.

"I'm. Fine." Jungkook panted.

The ceiling was all swirls of neon rainbow colors he'd never seen there before and the last time he'd gotten up to pee he'd fallen twice in the three steps it took to get back to the sofa, but he was nowhere, close to letting anyone destroy Bangtan.

He refused to soften his jaw that he knew he was squaring rebelliously.

Then his reflexes turned his head to the side

as he vomited out all the water he had just drank in the last hour.

He wasn't surprised by the thin shreds of pink blood floating in his vomit,

but when Jimin handed him tissue to wipe his mouth with,

Bang Sihyuk shook his head.

"You're done," he said. "We're going to go public now."

And that was how Jeon Jungkook's heart shattered into a million unamendable pieces.
