《Unexpected》[2] - stares

Willow had a long day at school. No one ever really paid any attention to the girl as she wasn't hanging around Everett and the boys anymore like she used to. At first, when the whole situation occurred, people did give her dirty looks. Of course, everyone suspected that she had a thing with Everett. They would always smile at each other in the hallways, and Everett always hugged or had an arm around Willow. However, the situation happened in her junior year- a year ago.
Everyone else stopped paying attention to Willow. They found new things to gossip and talk about. That doesn't mean that Everett stopped looking at her.
Every time Everett was with Marissa, he would always find himself looking for Willow. This, of course, didn't go unnoticed by Marissa. Marissa was jealous. Jealous of Willow. She hated how, even at her lame attempt of separating them, Everett still wanted Willow. She could tell by the desperation in his eyes that he wants nothing more than to be with Willow again. However, that didn't stop her. Marissa was determined to have Everett fall in love with her. She did everything in her power to make Everett spend time with her. He was with Marissa at all times, so he didn't have any chance to speak to Willow, even though he wanted nothing more than to hear her soft voice.
Throughout the day, Willow was bored out of her mind. She didn't like school, not one bit, but that didn't mean that she was slacking. She always tried her best in school to make her mother proud. She was in top of her classes. She just didn't like school. It was like a prison for her. The food was nasty, the students were rude and obnoxious, and the teachers were moody. How the whole class was going to go was all dependent on the teacher's mood. If the teacher was moody and had a bad day, the class would be a living hell- the teacher snapping at everything and anything that made a single sound. If the teacher had a good day, the class would go by smoothly.
During lunch, Willow sat inside with her friend, Violet. Willow and Violet were best friends since kindergarten. How they met was due to the fact that Violet was getting picked on by a couple of boys. They ended up pushing her, causing her to scrap her knees really badly. Willow, being the kind hearted girl she is, she went to go help Violet. Ever since that day, they clicked. They have been together ever since.

The only time Violet and Willow ever hang out though, was during school or holiday breaks. Violet has been dating the school's quarterback, Isaac. He's not that bad once you get to know him. Luckily, he doesn't fit the quarterback stereotype. Isaac was a nice gentleman and he treated Violet the way she should be treated. Being the school's quarterback, he's always busy with practice, so they always try to hang out whenever they can. Isaac sometimes joins the two for lunch, but most of the time, he's with his friends. Not that the boy was ashamed of being with his girlfriend, in fact, everyone in school knew that they were involved. He just didn't want to make Willow uncomfortable, and he also knew that Willow and Violet barely had time to hang out as they were both busy after school. Willow had a good relationship with Isaac, they were really close, but not as close as Willow was with Violet.
While Violet was conversing about the date Isaac had taken her to, Willow felt eyes on her.
"Don't look now, but Everett's looking at you." Willow turned around and saw him staring right at her. Not even ashamed that he was caught.
"I told you not to look!" Violet said while lightly slapping Willow's arm.
"Sorry! Geez lady, no need to be abusive." Willow said while faking the hurt in her arm, pouting her lips at her best friend. They both laughed.
She shifted uncomfortably in her seat. He had been staring at her ever since school started. It was getting very nerve-wrecking. As always, Marissa was glaring at Willow, she had noticed how Everett was watching the girl instead of paying attention to her. The rest of the table looked at Willow with pity, which was something she didn't want. To be fair, life was never kind to her. She didn't grow up having much money, there wasn't much to eat and her mom couldn't afford the bills, which almost resulted in them being homeless. Almost. Her and her brother never had it easy. She hated sympathy and pity. She didn't want people feeling sorry for her.
Word got out that Willow supposedly cheated on Everett. Everyone knew that Everett and Willow had a thing going on. They all supported it. Marissa was so blinded by hatred that she wanted everyone to hate Willow as much as she did. So she sent the video to the whole school. However, everything backfired. Most sided with Willow. They all knew Willow would never do that. On top of that, they all hated Marissa, but that didn't stop people from giving Willow dirty looks every once in a while.

She hated how Willow still had an affect on Everett. He was looking at Willow with a sad look in his eyes. It was obvious that he missed her and was miserable with Marissa. Everyone could tell. She was manipulative and controlling. She would always get mad and throw tantrums when she caught Everett with another girl. This was no secret. Everyone knew that Marissa was a bitch. They even caught her making a scene during school. Everett was talking to another girl about a project. Marissa saw them together and got so furious, she yelled and stomped on the floor until he agreed to never see the girl ever again.
"What are you doing next Saturday?" Willow asked her friend as they walked to their lockers. Luckily, their lockers were close to each other's.
"I have that dinner party my mother is hosting." Violet's mother posted a dinner party or some major event annually, it was an event or gathering for her relatives. They always get together as one big family once a year. Their house was huge, so they always threw it at their place. She worked as real estate agent. Her mother made more than enough money. Violet's family was loaded. They lived in a mansion. They also didn't care about how much money Violet spent. They had more money to spend. Sometimes the events she would throw would be for work. As both her parents were very successful, they threw huge events every holiday, whether they were balls/dances, or even dinner parties.
Violet's parents were very close with Willow's mother as they would always come to their place for get-togethers. So Violet's mother was always there for the West siblings when their mother had passed.
"That's next week? I was going to ask if you wanted to hang out. Maybe go to the movies or something, just like old times." Although the pair were very close, they barely spent time together anymore. Violet was always busy, either with Isaac or her family events. Willow had other things to do as well. Most of her weekends consisted of her working at a flower shop, visiting her mother, or going to The Oasis with Oliver. He never wanted Willow to work. He always wanted her to have fun and not worry about money because they had more than enough, however, he knew that working at the flower shop was a way that she connected with their mother as their mother loved flowers and often talked to Willow about them. She was also busy with deciding what she wanted to do after high school. She wanted to be an architect or maybe even major in criminology. She always found true crime fascinating and always found herself wanting to be apart of it.
"Yeah, you know my mother, she takes these things very seriously." Violet rolls her eyes, but Willow knew that deep down, she enjoyed those events. She never sees her family unless it's at the events her mother throws, plus she had a great bond with her family. Willow knew she was excited and happy to see them.
Throughout the rest of the day of the school, she felt eyes on her. She knew it was Everett. She noticed how he would always watch her. Not in a creepy way, but it sure felt creepy to her. Every time she would around to see who was looking at her, she saw that it was Everett. His eyes screamed "I miss you". At first, Willow was uncomfortable, she didn't liked being watched, she hated attention being on her, but after some time, she got used to his stares. She didn't really care. She cared about Everett and wished him nothing but the best, however, she didn't want him in her life anymore. Somewhere inside, she was still a bit hurt. She wished he could've came to her to talk about it instead of being a child. Soon, she learned to accept it. She couldn't change the past. She didn't even want to. It is what it is, and she was okay with that.
