《My Brothers' Enemy》40. Behind Closed Doors

Emma

Sometimes I wonder if I could just freaking disappear, you know? Never have I ever thought of this situation that is currently unfolding its ugly self. Maybe I should accuse Noah of harassing me. Only problem is I love him, so I can't really witness his death.

The look on my brothers' faces was priceless, and it made me think if we weren't in this position right now, I would have adored the idea of taking a photo. Carter on the other hand looked rather distressed than surprised, this little snoop already knew what was going on. He reminds me of gossip girl.

In a fraction of a second, my eyes flickered to the manly figure, caging me to the wall. He was eyeing my brothers seriously, with no ounce of hesitation in his grey, stormy eyes. I was about to get lost in his beauty and ponder some more when a sharp voice cut my train of thoughts before it took off.

''What. The fuck. Is happening here.'' Not a question but a warning was spat off Lucas's mouth. My eyes shifted to my hands that were resting comfortably on Noah's hard chest, only to realize there was no gap between us.

''I-I can explain.'' I stuttered, pushing Noah off of me gently. The thing is...he didn't move, but locked eyes with mine in seriousness. No, no, no, no....

I glared at him as I attempted to push him again, still he had his arms around me like he didn't agree with my plan. In a matter of a second I was the one being snatched away from him. Lucas was livid. He pushed me behind him, but couldn't rest for a moment as Noah held me again, pulling me into him.

''I think she can speak for herself.'' Noah's voice held no discussions.

''Who do you think you are? Leave my sister, or I swear you will regret it.'' Lucas took threatening steps forward, his gaze holding hatred. I panicked being in between them, knowing quite well if I didn't take an action now, I would be sandwiched.

''I need you both to clam down, please...'' I said calmly, planting my palms on both their chests.

Carter's eyes softened, ''Emma, come here.'' I obliged, taking no sides. It had to be done this way, or else one of us will end up miserable at the end. I couldn't help but cast a look at Logan, who surprised me by his calmness. He was observing us, his hands crossed over his chest. But when his eyes clashed with mine, I felt it. His disappointment. And I hated it.

With my head low, I stood next to Carter who looked like he was about to take the lead from here. ''If we are gonna to do that, we need to be clam to find a solution, and starting a fight will not help.'' Lucas turned very quickly that it took me by surprise and eyed Carter weirdly.

''Do you know what's going on here?'' Lucas seethed out at Carter.

Last thing I wanted to do was to ignite a fight between these ugly fighters. As much as Lucas is a sweetheart, when he is angry, he doesn't see what he is doing, and this is the worst thing about him. I reached out for Carter's hand to prevent him from going any further. This was my mess, and I am going to be the one to correct it. Carter's head swiped to mine, his eyes holding hesitance. I gave him one reassuring look before shifting my attention to the turning hulks in front of me.

''I will be the one talking.'' I gulped, taking in the expression on my brother's face. Noah stood behind him proudly, both hands crossed over his chest as he looked at me. His black hair was tousled messily, his nose flared in anger. His black t-shirt clung to him like a second skin, making his muscles more prominent that ever.

''Do talk.'' Lucas seethed out.

I raised my hand to massage my temple in distress before I found the courage to speak, ''N-Noah and I...W-we were together...'' I stuttered out nervously.

''Are.'' Noah stated hardly, ''Are together.'' Please, kill me.

Lucas chuckled evilly as he pinched his nose in distress. Next thing I know, his fist flew out and clashed into Noah's face. My body grew alert at the sudden move as they were sprawled across the ground. Everything was happening very quickly. The way they rolled vigorously, both fighting for dominance as they still threw punches at one another made me feel weak.

I was shouting at them to stop, but nothing I did seemed to get them out of their trance.

''You asshole! You are a fucking man-whore to try and take advantage of my little sister, she was out of it!'' Lucas raged out, holding Noah down to the ground.

In one swift motion, tables were turned and it was the other way round, ''You have no idea what the fuck you are talking about.'' Noah spat, giving him another one square in the jaw.

Deciding to do something, I realized that my legs were already taking me over to them. Carter was about to reach out to me and grasp me, but I was quick in getting far away from reach, and beside them on the ground.

Noah was about to punch Lucas again when my hand reached and received his fist instead. Pain swam through my arm, but I bit my lip and absorbed it all inside. As his eyes locked with mine, different emotions swam through them, and quickly he was off my brother and holding my hand between his.

''What did you do!?'' He screamed out in frustration, inspecting my hand gently. His breaths were still ragged and unsteady, but that didn't make him any less angry with me.

''I-I wanted to stop you.'' I answered softly. My hand was seriously starting to hurt badly. All his force came into it in the opposite direction.

''Emma...'' He shook his head, ''Does it hurt really bad?'' His voice was calm this time, full of regret as he still continued to massage my hand, releasing some of the pain.

''No, It's o--''

''I am so sorry, babe.'' His eyes locked with mine before he planted his hand on the side of my face, ''You know I didn't see you, right? I wouldn't ever hurt you, you now that, right babe?'' My eyes teared up at his state. I knew he didn't see me. I was the one who took his fist into my hands.

''I know.'' I smiled, ''It's okay, really. I was the one who held your hand.'' His eyes softened, and he quickly raised my hand up to his lips, placing one meaningful kiss on it, all the while his other hand drawing soothing circles on the side of my face.

''We will go check it up now. Let's go.''

For the first time, my eyes wandered around us at the scene. Lucas was still on the ground, his eyes following our every movement in confusion while Carter was just standing near Logan smiling down at us.

I blushed at the attention and stood up with Noah, who offered his hand out for Lucas to take.

He looked at him from the ground weirdly, but there was something I couldn't help but feel from Lucas. He looked like he was having an internal battle, and I so wanted to know what the hell happened between these two. He stayed on the ground looking at Noah's hand for what seemed like forever before his eyes went back to a darker shade and pushed it away from him, standing up on his own.

Noah shrugged, retreating his hand back to himself.

''Emma, come with me.'' Lucas called out, his jaw clenched at the sight of me holding hands with Noah.

''She is not going to. I am taking her to the hospital to check on her hand, this one was broken before.'' Noah stated emotionlessly.

''It is not your role to take care of my sister. You were the one who caused this from the very beginning anyways.'' Lucas spat out.

''It is my role to take care of my girlfriend, Lucas, whether you like it or not.''

Lucas growled, ''She is not your fucking girlfriend, Noah! Don't test me.'' I swallowed the lump in my throat, tightening my grip on Noah's hand to stop him from talking.

''May I know what is the problem here?'' My voice came out, thankfully, firm. ''Ever since I joined this school, you've been filling my ears with warnings, but never once did you tell me why should I stay away from him. I think I have a right to know why.''

Lucas sighed out, frustrated, ''You will not understand, Emma. It's comp--''

''Maybe I will, Lucas.'' I took a step forward, but my hand was still locked with Noah's, ''You always treat me like a child. I know you are protective over me, and I couldn't ask for better brothers, but the way you guys treat me makes me feel so small. Like I have no ability to do anything for myself.''

Lucas was now calmer for sure, but still it seemed like he was having a hard time confronting the situation. So in a moment, and without a warning, he was out of sight. Just gone.

I raked a hand over my face, taking a look at Carter. He was standing rooted in his place as surprised as I am, but neither of us uttered a word. I felt Noah's soothing hand on mine, which shifted my attention to him again.

''I will wait for you after school to go to the doctor, but for now, I think there is someone that needs to talk to you.'' My eyes wondered to where he was looking, only to fall on the retrieving figure of my brother; Logan.

He hasn't spoken a word ever since they barged into the place, and it wasn't the slightest bit comforting because I felt like he was disappointed in me. My eyes watered, but Noah was quick in holding my face and forcing my eyes to his.

''Nothing is gonna happen, alright? I promise you. I am going to fix it.'' He whispered, brushing the lone tear that fell on my cheek. I trust him, but I too want to fix this. I nodded my head, smiling a little at his flustered look. He pulled me close, planting a kiss on the top of my head.

''Go to Logan.'' He whispered.

I wasted no time in chasing my brother who fleet out of the place as quick as flash. The corridors were empty, no sound was heard, just nothing, and yet there was no sign of him. The only option that was left was to enter the cafeteria, even though I was positive he wasn't there.

The lights were turned off, tables were tucked in neatly, tables cleaned as it wasn't lunch time yet. I sighed and heard its echo in the empty place; however, the sound of a chair screech pulled me out of my trance. He was here.

Logan was sat down in the very far corner of the huge room, a chair in front of him using it to rest his elbows on. I felt my hearts rate quickens, urging me to get out of there. What if he really is upset with me? I can't bare one look from him like that. Even though Logan and I bicker a lot, we've always had a soft spot for one another. Lucas was more instinctual and quick in protection, but with Logan it is different. He is more calculative and understanding.

''L-Logan..'' I squeaked, turning his eyes to my direction. The emotion that swam in his eyes was sadness, and it tugged at my chest hard enough.

He sighed at my distressed state and patted the empty chair in front of him after turning it around. Relief washed over me, and my heels flied there. He rested his back on his own chair, locking eyes with me.

I was about to talk when he interrupted, ''Before you start talking non sense, I am not mad at you.'' My eyes widened. H-he wasn't ?

''Really?'' My voice was weak and uncertain, I thought he would snap at me and tell me how much of a bad sister I was, but instead he nodded his head, breaking eye contact with me. Something wasn't right, by the look on his face I could tell there was something off.

''Then what's bothering you?'' I touched his hand. His eyes fluttered at the gesture as a small smile tugged at his lips.

''You.'' He sighed.

''I am confused.'' I admitted, not wasting a beat. He laughed, shaking his head at my snappy attitude.

A minute has passed and his laughing has eased and we returned back to being quiet. I felt like there was something he wanted to say, but maybe embarrassed?

Noticing my serious expression, he sighed for the 12th time already, and talked, ''Alright, alright. I will talk.'' I nodded, waiting for him to begin. ''It's j-just....it's just that... agh, you know?''

Clenching my teeth, I pinched his hand, ''No, honestly, I don't know. No surprise you suck in English.'' He rolled his eyes at my remark.

''Okay, I will spill it and no judgement.''

''Wait! I thought you liked Veronica! Do you like Noah?!''

His expression remained emotionless, his eyes hooded a little. He smacked my head, cursing under his breath. ''Of course not, you idiot. I do like Veronica. I am not into guys, and seriously if I was, do you think I'd be interested in Noah?'' His voice was mocking.

My grin spread, ''So you really like Ver, don't you?'' I winked, my eyebrows wiggling suggestively.

His eyes widened before he coughed, ''I meant her boobs. She's got a nice pair of'em''

''Oh really?'' I teased, my eyes sparkling in another light.

''Can we get to the point again, please?'' He snapped, causing me to raise my hands up in surrender. He continued, ''Look, Emma. I am not mad at you as mush as I thought I would be. It is the fact that you chose to hide this from me. I don't like that Carter gets to know about this before I do. I get how Lucas can be overboard with his overprotectiveness, but you know I would have never prevented you from dating him, right?''

I shook my head hesitantly. I sure as hell did not know that. Na-uh.

''Okay look, Logan.'' I stroked his hand, ''I am sorry I didn't tell you. If I had known that you wouldn't be upset, I would have told you a decade ago, but the reason why I hid it from you was because I was trying not to make you sad or upset with me. You gave me really strict rules about Noah, and up till now I don't even know why you guys despise him that much.'' His eyes softened as he shook his head.

''It's complicated, plus that shit was a year ago, so it doesn't matter anymore.'' He shrugged carelessly.

''But I have the right to know, I don't care of it was last year or ten years ago, Logan.''

''No, absolutely no.'' His voice came out strictly edgy.

''Pretty please, big brother.'' I blinked adorably at him, ''I will clean your room for a week?''

''Don't really care about my room.'' He stated in a mono-tone.

''How about buying you the sweater you want?''

''That one is already out of trend.'' Stupid, Emma.

And op, an idea popped in my mind.

''How about setting you up with Ver?'' I asked hopefully, causing his head to turn sharply to me.

He took moments of hesitance before answering, ''I-I am n-not interested for God's sake.'' He huffed, his mouth twitching.

''Your loss, she is already to be on a date next Friday.'' I shrugged, turning my eyes away from him while his struck back. Nyahaha.

''O-Oh really? Who?'' His voice from what I concluded was meant to sound genuine but it ended being deadly.

''A guy from school, but they seem to already have such striking chemistry.''

''What can you do about that?'' He sounded serious. I looked at him puzzled by the his words, or maybe not.

''What do you mean?'' I uttered, innocently.

''What can you do to stop this date?'' He asked directly, going straight to the point. I grinned evilly.

''That's for me to know and for you to tell me about what happened, big brother.'' I smirked.

I ran through the corridors, followed by an outraged Logan. We both opened doors leading to the football area, or the changing room, anything that could lead us to the biggest jerk on the planet, Asher.

I spotted him from afar going in the direction of the changing room. I nudged Logan, and his eyes followed my gaze until it stopped at the poisonous creature standing afar.

''Can I talk first before you have your dandy way with him?'' I asked him before he could take a step forward.

''You have to sound scary, or I will take the lead.'' He smirked. I nodded, ecstatic to have my very first fight with a guy.

We marched quickly his direction and reached him just before he could enter the sweaty, damp, disgusting room. Logan was quick in twisting his arm as he dragged him the corner of the building where no one could see us.

''What the fuck is wrong with you, dude?!'' Asher shouted, trying to set his arm free off Logan's grip but failing miserably anyways.

''Why did you give the football captain fake drug reports?'' I fired the question instantly, making his eyes go wide.

''W-what a-are you talking about?'' He asked, squirming in Logan's hold.

''Tell me, Asher. Why did you hand in fake drug reports concerning Noah and Lucas to the football captain last year?'' I punched him in his leg as forcefully as I could. Logan smiled over at me, steadying the pained body in his hands.

''Who the fuck do you think you are?'' Asher shouted, anger seething out of him.

''She is Emma Green, asshole.'' Logan stated, giving him a punch in his stomach, ''And with you was Logan Green's light punch.''

I gave Logan thumps up and quickly shifted my attention back to Asher.

''Look, we already know, all we need you to do right now is to admit it, shouldn't be hard as you have a mouth.''

''Look you bit--'' Another punch delivered by my brother, but this one hit hard, though.

''Speak.'' My voice was firm this time as I was getting impatient.

''Fuck's sake...'' He sighed tiredly, ''Why do you think? To be the fucking team leader.'' He muttered.

Is this dude serious? What is he? 4?

''What are you? 4?'' Logan sneered at him lividly, stealing the words from the tip of my tongue.

''You...don't understand anything.'' Asher grumbled, struggling again to free himself, but this time Logan let him.

''Do fucking explain, asshole.'' Logan seethed out with a clenched jaw.

''If I hadn't become the leader, my dad would have sent me to a boarding school out of the country. Who would want that, so I am sorry if your brother didn't get to be the leader or whatever.'' Asher rolled his eyes.

''Do you really think it's about who was supposed to be the leader to a stupid football team?!'' I exclaimed, surprised by how surfaced of a person he was, ''You damaged a friendship between two people who thought they were manipulated by one another, and you are still talking about the football team?''

''How did the captain not discuss the drug problem with them?'' Logan asked.

''It was last year, the captain was shitty you know him, plus I told him they were seeking rehab.'' Asher shrugged.

A sudden urge of total disgust washed over me, and I found myself doing something I never though of doing ever. My fist flew as quick as light, landing on his face with force I didn't know I had within me. Two screams were heard after that. One from him as blood dripped out of his nose, and the other from me as my hand twisted even more than before.

''Damn, Emma.'' Logan smiled, taking my hand in his to inspect. ''Let's go.'' He said as we started leaving, Asher still on the ground groaning in pain.

''I can't believe how didn't you even think about this before? Hadn't it ever cross your mind that Asher could be the one behind all of this?'' I groaned, massaging my probably fractured fist.

''Guess we were too absorbed in anger to notice this fuck head, and you Tyson, need to get your hand checked in as quick as possible. It's already getting blue.'' He laughed, amusement dancing in his eyes.

''Is that really what happened a year ago? Were they good friends?'' I asked as we entered the building once again.
