《My Brothers' Enemy》15. Ignorance Is Supposed To Be A Bless, Right?

i woke up dreading the day already. Lucas and Logan were fighting over some football teams, while i was still in my pyjamas eating cereals. mum and dad were sitting in the living room talking about some memories from when they were still in college.
sighing, i washed my dish, and ascended the stairs to get to my room. i quickly changed my clothes into a pair of washed mum jeans, and a red hoodie. i placed my hair into a messy bun on my way to the door. that's how much i care about my looks, ladies and gentlemen.
Abby was already out, waiting for us, as she was now involved in the argument. rolling my eyes at them, i got in the car, and decided to do the one page i left out of my Calculus homework.
''boring...'' Logan huffed, as he entered the car, taking a glance at what i was doing.
''it's being smart. something you know nothing about.'' i retorted back, not sparing him a glance. he was about to argue back, but i shoved the book in his face instead. ''answer question 22.''
he looked at me puzzled for a moment, before taking the book. ''fine,'' he took my pencil aggressively, and stared at the paper as if it was an alien. it took him about 3 minutes before answering back, ''done!''
''let me see, idiot.'' Abby smirked, taking the book from his grip. he gave it to her with his chin high, but soon he had a frown, after he heard a snort coming out of her. she showed me the book mockingly, and i too snorted at how dumb my brother is.
''HEY!'' he complained, glaring at the both of us angrily.
''the question is already answered, Logan, and still you managed to get it wrong.'' i said with my brow raised.
''whatever.'' he rolled his eyes, and with a pout he looked in front of him. ignoring him, i finished the last question, and slammed the book shut, placing it in my bag again. Lucas was parking the car by now, and everyone got out. i stretched my legs and arms, getting out all the tension, and we all started walking to the school's entrance. Carter was standing there with some of the football team guys surrounding him.
''hey guys.'' Carter chirped out, making a smile crashes its way on my lips.
''what are you guys talking about?'' Lucas asked, snaking an arm on my shoulder. they started after that having a conversation on their own, leaving Abby and I out of it. i slowly stepped away, going with Abby inside the school. once we entered, it started getting 10 times noisier, and you could smell the stinking smell of the high school.
''hey girls!'' Della came in, crushing both of us in a hug. my eyes widened in surprise, but then it was followed by a chuckle. she is so sweet, unlike the other cheerleaders.
''how are you doing, hottie?'' Abby asked her with a wink.
Della rolled her eyes at her, ''shut up, Abbs.''
''no really. how is practice going?'' i asked her instead.
''well, Stella is very tiring, but we are trying to cope up with her.'' she said, scratching her shoulder.
''i don't even know why she is the coach, you are way more better than her.'' Abby defended, and i nodded my head.
''i never saw her face, while she is cheering. all i see is boobs.'' i remarked, causing Abby to burst out laughing, and Della to chuckle lightly, but anyone could see that she is a little sad. i tried to avoid talking about cheerleading the whole break before the classes, not wanting to upset her more.

the bell rang, indicating that it was time for the first class-- Calculus. i walked to the class, extra slowly trying to get late, so that i can at least waste a few minutes of the boring ass class, and try not to get in touch with a specific person. i found myself in front of the class, so i got in and went to my usual seat. people came in, filling in all the places. the teacher not long after that came in in a pissed mood, but before she could start explaining, someone barged into the class.
''you are late, Mr. Knight.'' she said looking at Noah.
''well, i can see that.'' he said, and he also seemed in a pissed mood. he looked over all the places, and his eyes came across the one next to me. his eyes locked with mine, and he seemed unsure at first, but there was no places left, so he came over and sat down.
he took out his phone from his pocket, and acted as if i was not there at all. i would lie, if i said that it didn't hurt my feelings, but who am i to talk. i am the girl who rejected him, when he kissed me. sighing, i tried as much as i can to concentrate on what the teacher was saying, but i have to say that took a lot of effort, and it didn't even work. i placed my head on the desk, and decided that i am going to zone out for the rest of the class.
class finished, and i couldn't be more grateful. i started packing my stuff, and quickly Noah was up and out of the door. i felt bad--real bad. i might not admit this out loud, but i hate it when he acts with me that way. so without a word, i also got out of the class, and to the English session.
''hey little sis.'' Logan smiled, as he shifted his attention from the girl that was half sitting on his lap to me. i rolled my eyes at him, and he grinned in a teasing mood. i slid down next to Abby, and huffed out a breath.
''what's wrong, beb?'' she asked, giving me her worried eyes.
''Noah is ignoring me!'' i whisper yelled in frustration.
''he should.'' she answered me back. ''i mean come on! put yourself in his place. the guy kissed you, and you rejected him. should he come and smile at you?'' what she said made sense, but i was far way too pissed for sense right now. not a minute later and the teacher was already in with a huge smile plastered on his face. and that's weird...
''good morning, class. today is the pop quiz, everybody!'' well, that explained it. groans were heard from every corner of the classroom, and i heard Logan muttering a serial of curses, making me laugh silently.
the teacher passed by with a smug face, and handed us the papers. English was never a big problem for me, and i didn't have to put a lot of effort in it, so i don't really care about it. i was about to grab the pen, and answer the first couple of questions, when i heard a sound.
''psst, you idiota.'' i looked at Logan, annoyed at him. does he really think that when he calls me idiota i will answer him? ignoring him, i sighed and started answering the questions. after about 5 minutes i felt my leg being kicked. i looked up and glared at my dipshit of a brother.

''please, Emma. i will do whatever you want for a day.'' he pleads, giving me his puppy eyes. i shook my head with a grin on my face, and returned back to my paper, only to be kicked twice as hard.
''ouch!'' i exclaimed out loud, earning the attention of some of the students, and the chubby teacher.
''is there something wrong, miss Green?'' he asked, looking from under his glasses.
''no.'' i answered rather quickly, and shifted my attention to Logan who was having some cash in his hands. my eyes lit up in joy, but i acted as if i was forced. groaning, i took the cash from under the table, and gave him my paper instead. he handed me his paper, sending me a kiss while doing so.
the first question:
1. why do you think the writer described his lover as a velvety night?
because he was a pussy...
my jaw fell down on the floor, as i took in what that idiot wrote on the exam paper. i quickly took my pen, and was about to hide the answer, and answer it properly, but the paper was snatched away from me.
''no no no, please. let me finish this question!'' i pleaded, still hanging on the paper for dear life.
''sorry miss Green. it was a short exam, and the time is up.'' the teacher smiled, happy for my misery, took the paper and continued taking the exam papers from other students.
''well, that was a heck of a test.'' Logan sighed, wiping off his imaginary sweat, and in the same moment i was pressuring the pen in my hand until it became two halves. Logan's eyes followed the sound, and his eyes grew wide. he swallowed the lump in his throat, and slowly raised his eyes to lock with mine.
''did you by any chance have the time to answer the quiz?'' he asked, sounding unsure of my outcome.
''i didn't even have the time to hide your answer.'' i said slowly, sending daggers his way. his mouth opened slightly, and he covered it with his hand.
''what did he write?'' Abby asked with curiosity.
''that the writer described his lover as a velvety nigh because he was a pussy. exactly like someone i know.'' by the last word, i was on my heels, leaving a bursting Abby behind, and chasing a scared for his life Logan. i couldn't be more happy that the session was over, so that i can strangle that ass-hole.
he ran through the hallway like a maniac, screaming for mercy, but there was no way in hell I'm gonna leave him alone. the freaking teacher already hates me, imagine what would he do with this piece of paper!
''i didn't mean to, little sis!'' Logan screamed, entering the cafeteria, looking for Carter or Lucas, i assume.
''you! you are a dipshit!'' i retorted, trying to catch his t-shirt in my hands. i reached my hands for his back, but i guess my force was huge compared to the time i had, and before i knew it, i was ready to make out with the floor. only when a hard, firm hands stopped me. i looked up and found Noah looking ahead of him, not sparing me a chance. after i was up to my feet, he let go of my waist, and continued walking to his table.
''where did he go?!'' asked a panting Abby from behind me. i shook my head from La La land that i was in a few moments ago.
''there! let's go get him.'' i quickly started running, wasting no time. he was already at the table. hiding behind Lucas. ''don't let him get away with that, Lucas!''
''what happened?'' Lucas asked, feeling puzzled by the whole situation. he placed his hands on his hip, and looked between the both of us.
''he forced me into exchanging the quiz papers, and not only that folks! NA-UH! but the answer to the first question is that the writer thinks that his lover is a velvety night because he is a pussy. can you imagine the writer? can you imagine how embarrassed he is gonna be when the teacher reads about him being a pussy?! and i didn't get to change the answer because of the time!'' i screamed my heart out in frustration and anger.
''OH. MY. GOD!'' Carter laughed, his jaw down on the floor. ''whose day got better now?!''
''don't get me started with you, Carter!!!'' i warned him, taking a step towards him. he pulled away, raising his hands in surrender.
''i think i gave you 50 dollars, right?'' Logan asked, showing me his wallet.
''will 50 dollars bring me my grade back?!'' i asked, as i threw my book on him. he dodged it quickly, so it hit Lucas instead.
''okay! stop it you two. enough is enough!'' Lucas shouted, ''first, give me this 50 dollars.'' he ordered, and i silently gave it to him. ''good. we will talk about it later, then.''
''you manipulator! give me the money!'' i shouted at him, and all of them burst out laughing. he handed me the money, and i sat down not talking to anyone of them.
i am mad now, people!
i dug in my pizza, ignoring everyone, however they kept throwing sarcastic comments about pussies. i was in the middle of chewing my food, when i felt a tap on my shoulder. i looked behind me and found Asher standing there.
''hey.'' he greeted, ''i was wondering if tonight is good to start on our project. it can be at my house.''
''oh no, buddy, you come at ours.'' Logan remarked, giving him a death glare. Asher swallowed hardly, looking at me for a rescue. i guess my house is okay...
''it's fine, ours is good.'' i said, and returned back to eating, but my eyes accidentally landed on Noah, who was only sitting few tables away from us. he was sending daggers through Asher's skull, not seeming to notice me, but when he did, he started flirting back to Stella, who was clinging to him like a chubby koala.
who am i kidding!
curvy koala...
xxx
''yeah, let's write this on top of the chart, and we also have to include it in the power point slides.'' i said to Asher, while writing down the bullet points in my notebook. he was basically useless. i was the one doing everything, but being the good me, i was just telling him what i was doing.
''i can't concentrate here, you know.'' he mumbled, playing with black marker on the table.
''tell me when was the last time you actually concentrated.'' i rolled my eyes, taking the laptop from my lap and setting it on the table.
''can the second time be at my house?'' he asked. i don't know why is he pushing this topic so much. from the moment he entered the house, he has been on how much better it would has been if it was at his house.
''little one, do you need anything?'' Lucas asked, not really looking my direction, but staring at Asher. Logan and Carter were sitting beside each other, whispering with their eyes on the poor guy, and don't get me started with dad! he was resting his elbows on the kitchen counter, his eyes not leaving us once.
''you know what? that's a very good amount of work for today. we will set another date tomorrow, OK?'' i stated, getting up from the table with my laptop in one hand, and the other hand holding my notebook.
''alright then...'' Asher mumbled, feeling uneasy with all the eyes on him. once he got out of the door, i sighed a big time and turned around with a frown on my face.
''care to tell me what the hell was that?'' i asked, irritated by their behaviour toward the guy.
''i don't like him.'' they all said in the same time. my eyes widened in surprise, as i heard all the complaints.
''we know him from football, he is a player.'' Logan shrugged carelessly, and was followed by Lucas and Carter nodding eagerly.
''did i tell you i was dating him?! we were working on a project, guys.'' i said, walking my way to the stairs.
''still don't like him, though.'' dad mumbled under his breath, making me squint my eyes at him. i got up to my room, and quickly changed into my pyjamas, thanking the lord that the awful was near to an end.

Mark of the Lash
Born from a precarious relationship between a Drow and his prize, Serena Lash struggles to find her place, and herself, as she fights to persevere through the hardships life throws her way. A story born from a D&D game I am currently a part of. The narrative will follow the events of the campaign as closely as possible, with some events having been tweaked to better fit into a written story. A slow burn, the narrative does skip around a bit due to the nature of the campaign, considering that not everything in the game needs to be written about. This will begin to peter out the further the story progresses, but for the first parts, expect a bit of skipping!
