《The Best Kept Secret》Chapter 18: A Common Enemy

"This is indeed a well drafted contract. We would like to state several conditions before we reach an agreement." Lord Xu Yang expressed.
"If your conditions are not agreeable within our parameters, then we can negotiate other terms." Bai Zhi retorted. "Please state your conditions" Bai Yi continued.
"We would like to propose a political alliance thru marriage." Lord Xu Yang stated.
"Who?" Bai Yi asked.
"My adoptive sister Red Demon Princes Ji Heng to his Lordship Dong Hua Dijun, as payment of his debt to her deceased father his former general Meng Hao."
"May I remind Lord Xu Yang again that his Lordship Dong Hua Dijun is Qing Qui's honored guest and by no means is not obligated to accept this or any further conditions." Bai Zhi seriously replied.
"I have repaid Meng Hao's debt fully by providing the needs of his daughter since the day she was entrusted to my care. This condition is not open for negotiation." Dong Hua angrily said glaring at Xu Yang.
"Not even for the peace of our tribes?" Xu Yang pushed the issue.
This time, Feng Jiu heard enough. She approached him sternly: "Lord Xu Yang, Qing Qui is willing to establish a peaceful relationship between our clans and have provided generous and beneficial stipulations that other realms wish to get to achieve such things. You are imposing an allegiance with other interests rather than establishing the peace that your lands so desperately need. We politely ask you to reconsider your position towards our honorable guest and strike out your proposal. This treaty will serve as the means for peace and no other alliance will be necessary to legally bind our realms." Feng Jiu continue to stare at Xu Yang expressionless to the point to make him uncomfortable.
"Very well as your highness and majesties have clearly expressed. I will strike out this proposal as requested. No further conditions are at hand." Xu Yan yielded, clearing his throat.
"However, you can establish a political alliance among your clans, consider Lord Yan Chiwu as her betrothal. It will strengthen your dominion in your inlands having two noble clan lead members as rulers." Feng Jiu suggested him. "This will end some of your internal conflicts between the clan leaders. Providing ample support not only to your reign but also will be adding value to our treaty as well. Gaining reputation and recognition for your benefit if this pleases your interest, since Qing Qui has the Celestial backrest thru our Crown Prince and High Goddess Bai Qian marriage." Feng Jiu strategically served his plate.
Dong Hua was internally celebrating how his little fox was dominating her territory stating her claim. "That's my empress" Dong Hua telepathically said to her. Feng Jiu heard Dijun's words in her mind but didn't changed her emotionless face towards Xu Yang. Her queen stance commanded the air. Everyone at the table was admiring her bearing.
"It is an acceptable offer now that you mention it. Thank you, your highness, for enlighten me. I would make the necessary arrangements to make it happen." Lord Xu Yang agreed. Yan Chiwu was happy, his face was glowing.

"In an exchange of aiding you with these arrangements, let me point out that we have a common enemy that needs to be eliminated." Feng Jiu said while looking at him. "There is an infiltrator within your clans and is conducting illegal activities on our territory. These crimes will not be left unpunished. One of the stipulations on this treaty is to brought to justice any insurgence agents that will be a treat to our allegiance." Feng Jiu seriously stated.
"A common enemy?" Xu Yang asked.
"Yes Lord Xu Yang. Your infiltrator is conducting poaching, fur smuggling in our borderlands. I came to encounter thousands of my subjects brutally murdered. Its master is using a group of mercenaries hungry to establish an evil reign to destroy the peace that we are trying to achieve today. We need to stop these activities from spreading like fire to other territories before a civil war explodes in our faces."
"I will assure your majesties that if I discover these mercenaries, I will bring them to justice before this council." Xu Yan said.
"Her highness has a swift tongue, speaking on behalf of her king instead of letting him speak on behalf of the kingdom." Lord Nie Chuyin spoke out of nowhere.
Everyone turned their heads to him. Feng Jiu was irritated by his comment. She got up from her seat and slowly approached him with menace. The Bais sensed her anger and got up from their seats too, while Ye Hua, Lian Song, Zhe Yan and Dong Hua were exchanging glares. They were carefully perceiving Feng Jiu's actions. She was holding her hands tightly to prevent attacking Nie Chuyin. Her eyes were full of fury. Dong Hua was trying to calm her down: "Little fox control your stance and scolding. Don't ruin this, his time will come but not now." Dong Hua telepathically said to her.
Feng Jiu stand facing him gazing him intently: "Black Demon Lord Nie Chuyin, in a game of chess, the queen is the most important piece of the game. She is the one that wage war to protect her king. As queen I am strategically planning what my next move will be. I will let your snide comment go since you are ignorant with Qing Qui's customs and royal protocol. I can assure you that I didn't overrule my authority over my grandfather's, if that is what you are implying. Besides you're a third generation noble and currently you are below my rank, not that I pay attention to these nuances. But now that I'm standing this close to you I can't help to notice your fixation for the luxury of furs, perhaps you might have a clue regarding the mercenaries and their illegal activities on my lands and share it with all of us." Feng Jiu said while eyeing Nie Chuyin's fur cape. He started to stammer and blinking his eyes fast. Signs of getting nervous.
"I apologize if I offended your highness. I'm indeed ignorant of Qing Qui's protocols, I hope that I didn't offend your emperor or family. But I can assure you that your highness is misjudging me. I can confirm to you that I do not information of such mercenaries." Nie Chuyin nervously chuckled. His forehead was profusely sweating bullets.

Feng Jiu was reading his reaction and telepathically said to Yan Chiwu, "Put a tap on him, he is lying, I can't prove his involvement on this yet, but I need you to let me know his whereabouts from now on."
"Count on it" Yan Chiwu responded to her.
Dong Hua knew he was lying but couldn't intervene at this point. He telepathically said to Feng Jiu to stand down for now and continue with the negotiations. He will help her to find his involvement on the matter.
Feng Jiu felt Dong Hua's plead and decreased her tone forcing a smile "My apologies Lord Nie Chuyin. This subject has caused me to be oversensitive." She turned around and slowly walked back to her seat with her queenly stance not changing. All eyes were on her.
"No need for apologies, we fully understand her highness concern. Isn't that so Lord Xu Yan?" Yan Chiwu casually asked.
"Yes, of course". Lord Xu Yan nervously smiled. "We will assist your highness in her investigation as a gesture of good will from our part. I give you my word that we will graciously acquiesce any parties guilty of these crimes to bring them to justice"
Feng Jiu nodded at his statement. "Thank you, Lord Xu Yan."
"Then let us proceed in closing this meeting, shall we?" Bai Zhi stated. If you please execute your signature here. Bai Zhi pointed where he needed to sign.
Lord Xu Yan signed his name on the treaty and smeared a drop of his blood next to his name. The others followed the same process. With the treaty finally executed. Bai Zhi produced 3 copies of the document. He gave one to Lord Xu Yan, and the other to Crown Prince Ye Hua for registration. Feng Jiu kept the third one.
Zhe Yan conjured 3 bottles of his famous peach wine to seal the allegiance.
To our new peace era, Bai Zhi said. And everyone lifted their wine cups and toasted in the same fashion.
"Lord Xu Yang, please send your emissary to Qing Qui by next week so we can start with the terms as agreed." Bai Yi said.
"We will send Lord Yan Chiwu with our reports. Thank you again for making this possible. We will endlessly work together for the lasting peace of our clans." Everyone bowed to each other and disappeared in a black mist.
With the meeting adjourned, Yehua congratulated the Bai Clan for their merits of achieving this.
"We cannot take full credit for what happened here today. If anyone deserves credit, it will be our queen, she tiredly worked for months to strategically plan this meeting and cover all the basis. She is the one who can be said that unified our clans." Bai Zhi proudly admitted, while embracing her.
Feng Jui's face was flushed with embarrassment, she hated recognition. She was looking at the ground.
Lian Song smiled at them. "Indeed, is a new era for Qing Qui, her highness has proven to be a wise ruler. We are proud to witness her accomplishments today." He bowed to her.
The Bais were happy to hear Feng Jiu's recognition. "Why Xiao Jiu you are awfully quiet, did a cat got your tongue?" Bai Zhi teased her. "Zǔfù" She said.
Ye Hua approached the Bais: "I will send some of my trusted defenses to assist you in the investigation concerning these illegal activities. I have a feeling that Qing Qui is not the only territory affected by these events. My scouts informed me that similar disturbances have reached other regions. Their respective representatives will be privately meeting with Lian Song and myself three days from today."
"Crown Prince please allow us to participate in this meeting, we would like to assist them as well since our lands are closer than the Nine Heavens jurisdiction." Bai Yi asked.
"Very well. We will see you again in three days, I will take my leave." Yehua said and left with Lian Song and their guards.
"I have a feeling that our peaceful days are over." Dong Hua blankly said. "Miao Lou is gathering followers, she is up to something, I need to fortify her seal. If she gets out from her prison, all hell will come to us in no time. This takes priority." And with his hand wave, he also disappeared on his purple mist.
Feng Jiu was disappointed to see him leave but understood his duty. Zhe Yan saw her discontent on her face and smiled at her.
Dong Hua appeared on Miao Lou's imprisonment to check on her. She was looking at him with a smirk on her face. "Why look who decides to pay me a visit? I knew you were coming" Miao Lou loudly laughed at him.
"I witnessed your handy work and I'm not pleased that you are causing ruckus around. Do you think you can escape your prison?"
"I thought of you when my handy work was being done. You are my muse Dong Hua. I can't wait until we fight again. Don't' you miss me?"
"You will never have that chance."
"Want to bet? I'm close Dong Hua, real close."
Dong Hua called his powerful blue aura and strengthen the seals on Miao Lou, she started to screech in pain.
"Let's see about that, now your illusion would not be able to appear any longer." He turned around and left.

Azarinth Healer
A new world with nearly unlimited possibilities. A status, classes, magic and monsters. Sounds good? Well, for Ilea it didn't come quite as expected as for some other protagonists, nor was there a king or god to welcome her. The grand quest? Well, she might figure that out someday but for now, a new world with new food is prize enough. Her fists at the ready, she's prepared to punch and get punched, however long it takes and however many limbs she might have to regrow. A story I've started writing now quite a while ago. Transported to another world, somewhat standard fantasy setting with my beginner attempts to make it dark but funny. There are Litrpg elements here but I do hope it's not too heavy and annoying. The fights should be interesting and aren't just numbers vs numbers. Contrary to the title the protagonist will be quite an offensive fighter. Ilea Spears is your average sarcastic kick-boxing fast food worker and soon to be student. She will be transported to another world rather conventionally and will be confronted with survival in the wild. Give it a shot and let me know what you think. My experience is incredibly lacking. If you find yourself hating it early on, do convey your anger in a detailed comment or review :) I want to get better but without any feedback it's simply quite difficult. Quick heads up: Around chapter 120 there are a bunch of longer PoV changes that I discontinued again shortly after. The Arc around chapters 150-200 is darker than the rest and the themes shift quite a bit. Just know that it goes back to what you've come to know after that section. Thank you for reading. Quick update June 2019: Many complaints regarding the formatting, specifically spacing in conversations and of course the usage of the present tense in the first 36 chapters have been addressed. I'm of course learning by the day but compared to how it was before it should be an improvement at least. Chapters usually around 3k words Cover art by Kevin Catalan
