Behind this illegal activity was the bank chairman Robert Calvi, Vatican Bank President Archbishop Marcinkus, Venerable Master of P2 Licio Gelli and Mafia financier Michele Sindona.

Banco Ambrosiano was one of the many banks being used to transfer billions of dollars in various illegal activities.
